For those of you with older readers, this book is a must-have. Recommended for ages 11 and above, it has several hidden messages your reader will pick up on and appreciate.

This proves to be a challenge for him. The reader is taken on a journey with Jonas as he navigates this newfound responsibility.
21. Hans Christian Andersen’s Complete Fairy Tales
Fairy Tale Classic

View on Abebooks
This fairy tale compilation is wonderful. It contains Hans Christian Andersen’s famous titles, including “The Ugly Duckling,” “The Red Shoes,” “Thumbelina,” and more.
These are recommended starting at age 8, but they can make great read-aloud stories until your younger child is ready on their own.
It has a beautiful cover design and the content is chock full of classical tales, perfect for any bookshelf. It also comes with a built-in ribbon bookmark so your reader will always remember where they left off.
Bedtime Reading by Age
Depending on your child’s age, there are different ways to approach bedtime reading. With younger children, reading out loud together is most beneficial. As your child gets older and more confident, they may become more inclined to read the story to you.
Babies and Toddlers
When reading to your baby and toddler, we suggest books that have calming language and rhyme to lull your little one to sleep (1).
Once they’re able to, let them start choosing their own bedtime story book. This will help foster independence and they’ll feel important this way.
Preschoolers
Preschool is a good time to start introducing different styles of writing, like fiction, non-fiction, poetry, and comics. If you want to encourage their literacy skills, shut the lights off and come up with your own tales together.
Be on the lookout for books with relatable characters. Your preschooler will enjoy mimicking them and the character’s bedtime routine.
Elementary & Older
Just because your child is reading on their own now (or is close to it), doesn’t mean you should give up on reading together. It will help them develop their reading skills and allows them to hear stories from different perspectives (2).
For lower elementary, books with easy-to-follow storylines are suitable. As they grow, starter chapter books and series are good to have on hand.
Older kids also can appreciate an author’s craft more. This allows for deeper conversations which, in turn, helps further develop your parent-child bond.
Nighty Night
There are so many great titles to choose from when it comes to bedtime reading. Finding the right ones for your child can become quite a task when you aren’t sure what they would like.
By bearing their interests and reading level in mind, along with the story’s content, you’re sure to pick titles your child will appreciate.
Our favorite is If Animals Kissed Goodnight. We love this title for the way it helps children use their imagination. The whimsical rhyme and soothing illustrations are sure to pique your kid’s interest.
So, we told you our favorite, which one is yours? Do you have a favorite that didn’t make this list? We want to know!

The author of the original Yiddish story, on which the fairy tale "Good night, wind" is based, is the poet and teacher Moishe Kulbak, whose life was tragically cut short in Minsk at 1937
The Hebrew word "ruach" means "wind" and "spirit" at the same time. In his poem, the author animated the wind, endowing it with human emotions and experiences: fatigue, anger, compassion and even a smile.
Kulbak dedicated this story to the children of the Jewish orphanage in Kovno, where he taught.
Perhaps Kullback invented the tale of the grumbling wind to show his young readers, faced with difficult life circumstances, how to keep their ruach - their spirit - and, even when it seems to you that you are alone, find friends.

Whirlwind music
In the lesson we will listen to the music of the wind, rustle the fallen leaves, baste snowdrifts and whirl in a snow whirlwind. We are waiting for two games and a musical break for book motives. You can play with one child or with a group of children.
Wind baby games
The wind is a stormy and impetuous element, so sit still while reading a fairy tale about the wind is simply impossible. And we will not sit! Let's read a story and play along with the mischievous wind.

We composed this fairy tale together with our son when he was about 2 years old. Now, when he is almost 4, we suddenly remembered it again and found that the effect does not change - if you follow the division into lines, by the end of the fairy tale the child falls asleep steadily :). I hope it will be useful not only to us.
Read online "Good night, Bear!". Main page.
Maxim Mikhailov Good night, Mishka!
In one large and kind forest lived a family of bears:
Papa Bear, mother Bear and little bear cub Mishka.
One day they came home, to the den, and began to go to bed.
Papa Bear lay down first. And immediately fell asleep.
The second lay mother Medveditsa. And she fell asleep right away.
And the third was a little Mishka.
But he didn't sleep.
He wanted to say good night.
Only to whom? After all, mom and dad were already asleep.
And then Mishka decided to wish good night to all his friends.
* * *
Closest to all lived his girlfriend Owl - Big Head.
She lived in a hollow in a tall-eyed tree.
The bear climbed up the high-eyed trunk and knocked on the door: knock-knock-knock!
Owl opened. Her eyes were large and very sleepy.
— Hello, Mishka! - She said. “And I was just going to sleep, but I decided to drink cocoa. Do you want cocoa, Mishka?
- Want! Mishka rejoiced. — I love cocoa!
They sat in Owl's kitchen, drinking cocoa and looking out the window, where the sun was slowly sinking towards the treetops.
When it was completely entangled among the leaves, the Owl yawned widely - Aaaah! - and gave Mishka a jar of honey.
"Hold it," said the Owl, "I know you love him."
- Of course I love! Mishka rejoiced again. Thanks, Owl!
He slipped the jar into his pocket, while Owl lay down in her bed.
Mishka straightened the pillow under her ears, covered her with a blanket and whispered in her ear:
- Good night, Owl.
* * *
Then he descended the high-eyed trunk and headed for the hill. There, in a hole on the slope, lived his second friend, the Badger.
The bear climbed the slope and knocked on the door: knock-knock-knock!
Opened Badger. His eyes were sleepy.
— Hello, Mishka! - He said. - And I was going to sleep here, but I decided to drink tea. Do you want tea, Mishka?
- Want! Mishka said. And I have honey too. Owl gave!
- Hooray! Badger rejoiced.
They sat together in his kitchen, drinking sweet tea with honey and looking out the window, where the sun had disentangled itself from the tree crowns and was now sinking towards the horizon.
Then Badger's eyes began to close, and he went to bed.
Bear covered him with a blanket, pushed a pillow under his ears and whispered in his ear:
- Good night, Badger.
* * *
He went to the old oak. There, at the roots, lived a third friend - Bunny-Poprygayka.
But Bunny was not in the hole.
He sat under a bush and looked up at the sky. His eyes were sleepy and very sad.
— Hi, long-eared! Mishka said. - What are you sad about?
“I want to sleep,” said Bunny sadly, “but there is no one to wish good night.” Here's the trouble.
- No problem! Mishka rejoiced. “I came to you for the same!” Let's wish each other good night: you - to me, and I - to you.
- Hooray! Zaika rejoiced.
Together they sat under a bush and looked at the sky, where the sun turned into a huge orange ball and rolled towards the horizon faster and faster.
Then Bunny's eyes began to close, he yawned widely and whispered:
- Good night, Mishka.
And Mishka took him in his arms, carried him to the old oak and laid him on a bed of dry leaves. He covered it with a blanket of dried grass and whispered directly into his long ear:
- Good night, Jumpy Bunny.

Mishka went to a small, but oh-so-very deep mink, where his girlfriend Mouse lived.
The door in the hole was so tiny that Mishka knocked on it with one finger: tuk-tuk-tuk!
Mouse opened. And Mishka was very surprised: a screech, a squeak and other hubbub could be heard from the hole.
— What are you doing there?! - He asked.
“We all really want to sleep,” the Mouse shouted, “but we won’t talk enough and won’t play enough!
The fact is that all her relatives lived in the hole with the Mouse:
Papa Mouse,
Mishka's mother,
grandmother Mouse,
grandfather Mouse,
Uncle Mouse,
aunt Mishka,
Mouse sisters,
Brothers Mouse,
Mouse's nephews
and niece Mouse.
