La Vie En Rose. The song by Edith Piaf, for which she herself wrote the words, to the music of Louiguy (Louis Gugliemi), I do not know how to reproduce it in Russian.
It would seem an ideal, amazing song for female singers, but not a single one managed not only to repeat Piaf, which is impossible in principle, but at least to sing normally, well, but the smartest ones did not even try. Apparently, she was too personal.

Edith Piaf

Mireille Mathieu

Marlene Dietrich

Dalida

Dalida and Julio Iglesias

Louis Armstrong. English and trumpet

Tony Bennett. In English. I don't know whose female voice I don't know

Audrey Hepburn

Celine Dion. With an English accent

Sophie Milman. Canadian-Israeli singer of Russian origin

Grace Jones

Words by Edith Piaf. Excellent, by the way. Who else could write so simply and with pain...

#on the street.
Janitor's memories and reflections continue.
Today is the birthday of everyone's favorite Sparrow. Gorgeous, small, beautiful Etid Piaf.
You can talk and listen a lot about her work. Go over the details of rise and fall again and again. Love and death.
A talented person is talented in everything. This is true. And Piaf!!!

You know, since 1960, the most popular woman in France has become the symbol of France, the girl Marianne.
It all started with Brigitte Bardot. Next was Mireille Mathieu and Catherine Deneuve and other women.

Edith was not on this list, but Marianne was in her life.
Girlfriend. A simple cabaret singer, quite popular.

Marianne Michel. The one to whom Piaf gave the greatest hit of French chanson!
Marianne Michel, lived in Marseille and performed there in the Musique Léger cabaret.
Once, during their joint lunch in a Parisian cafe, Marianne complained that she had no new songs, and suddenly asked: "I can't find good songs. To make myself known, I need a hit. Edith, could you write for me song?"
Edith owed a lot to her friend. In February 1942, it was Marianne who arranged a week-long tour for Edith in her cabaret. In addition, there is a version that Edith wanted to make amends for seducing Marianne's fiancé. Whatever it was, but Edith replied: “There is one melody that does not go out of my head. She is in your spirit. Listen” and sang the motive of the song to her.
It remains only to come up with the text. Edith wrote the first lines directly on the paper tablecloth:

When he hugs me
And whispers in my ear,
Everything around appears in pink light.

Marianne Michel suggests replacing “everything around” with the word “life”. Thus was born the name - "Life in pink".
The next day the song was almost ready.
Edith Piaf was a member of SACEM, a copyright association, not as a composer, but as a lyricist, so she turned to her friend, composer Marguerite Monnot, with whom she wrote many songs. Margaret, having read the lyrics of the song, was horrified: “I hope you are not going to sing such nonsense?” And even Piaf's excuses that the song was not intended for her, but for Marianne Michel, did not help convince Monnot to subscribe to this "nonsense".
But if something did not work out for Edith, she always tried to succeed. She didn't accept failure. She had a close friend, the composer and pianist Marcel Luigi, who wrote the music for Piaf's songs "Tramp" and "Methane Explosion"), and Edith turned to him.
From Piaf's stories it follows that Luigi agreed immediately, but, according to his recollections, only six months later they recorded together the melody that haunted Edith.
In his speech on the radio on the day of the death of Edith Piaf October 11, 19Marcel Luigi, 63, recalled: “It was the day my daughter was christened, and Edith was the godmother. It all happened at her house, at 71 Marceau Avenue. After dinner, we sat down at the piano. She told me:“ Luigi, let's compose a song " - as we have already done twenty-five times. And I must say that in five minutes we wrote "Life in Pink Light".
So, the song was written and ... given, as promised, to Marianne Michel. She performed it and the song was such a success that, according to her friends, Edith literally tore her hair out: “What an idiot I was that I didn’t sing it!”
She still sang it, but two years later. And it is thanks to this performance that the song has lived for many decades. It is a feeling …
