Hi, I’m Angelina Ballerina. Today is our teacher’s birthday. Her name is Ms. Mimi. My friends and I are going to throw her a super surprise birthday party. Do you want to help? “Here’s my list of what we need for the party!” “Does your list say we need a present?” “Of course, Gracie! See? It also says we need a cake, decorations, and a birthday card. Hey, let’s go shopping for the gift first!”
“Yeah!” “Uh, is it okay if I stay here, while you go shopping?” “Sure, Marco. You finish writing your song! “Look at these beautiful, shiny ballet slippers! They’d make the perfect gift for Ms. Mimi!” “Oooooh! They’re soooooo amazing!” “I can’t take my eyes off them. They’re so . . . so . . . so . . . beautiful! Oh, Ms. Mimi will just love these new ballet slippers! They’re only 15 Mouseland shillings! Let’s buy them!” “But we don’t have enough money.” “Oh no!” “What are we going to do?” “We still need a gift for Ms. Mimi!” “Hold on! We’re good at making things . . .” “We can make the slippers ourselves!” “Stupendous! We’ll start on them once we get back home!” OK, we have everything we need to make the slippers: shiny fabric, ribbon, scissors, needle, and thread. Now it’s just a cut here, a tuck there, and a lot of sewing everywhere! “We love you, yes we do. Oh, we love you!” “Huh. Wow! Angelina, those lyrics are great for the song I’m composing.” “Thanks, Marco. Uh-oh! Look! It ripped! We can’t give this ripped slipper to Ms. Mimi. But we still need a gift! See? It’s on our list. What are we going to do?” “Maybe we should make a tutu instead.” “OK, Gracie, you and Marco make the tutu. Viki, come with me so we can check on the cake!” Mom made this teeny tiny cake for Ms. Mimi, but we wanted something much bigger! “What if we add some of these cupcakes to it? It will make the cake bigger!” “I’ll help! I’ll help!” “OK, Polly and Viki, let’s get started.” And just then, Marco and Gracie come in, but they don’t look very happy. “What happened to the tutu?” “The scissors kind of got out of control.” “Oh no! We don’t have a gift at all now. But at least we have a cake—a tipping tower of cake.” This is where the party will be. We don’t have balloons, so we’re using daisies to decorate instead. “Ms. Mimi is going to love this. She loves flowers!” “Look! The cake is here!” It really does look like a tipping tower cake, doesn’t it? And Marco really does look like he’s struggling with it! “Uh-oh, ah-ahhhh-ahhh . . . AH-CHOO!” Our big tipping tower cake tipped all the way to the ground! We can’t have a birthday party without a cake. Our super surprise birthday party is ruined! “Is someone having a party?” “Ms. Mimi! Oh no! Well . . . surprise! It’s a birthday party . . . for you!” “Oh!” “Um, there aren’t any real presents.” “Or a cake. It all went really, REALLY wrong. We’re sorry.” “Ms. Mimi, we tried to buy you a gift, and then we tried to make you a gift. We even tried to make you a cake. And it all got ruined. But we think we have a gift for you after all, and we hope you like it! Hit it, Marco!” “Let’s sing a song on this, your happy birthday. Won’t take too long. Just one thing that we want to say. We love you! Yes, we do! Oh, we love you! We’d like to bring a very special gift to you. And when we sing, Each and every word is true. We love you! Yes, we do! Oh we love you!” “Oh, that song is the most wonderful gift in the world.” “Thank you, Ms. Mimi. We were very worried that we didn’t have anything for you on your birthday, so I’m happy you liked our song instead.” “Gifts don’t have to be things you buy at a store.” “Gifts can be songs or dances!” “To be really good, all a gift needs is to have lots of love in it!” And our song did have lots of love in it. “Happy birthday, Ms. Mimi!” \t “Thank you so much!”

Katerina Holabird - Angelina meets Christmas: read a fairy tale, a story for children, full text online

The wonderful holiday of Christmas was approaching. At the school where Angelina studied, preparations for the Christmas concert were in full swing. So today everyone stayed after school to decorate the hall with garlands, silver rain, balls and snowflakes.
When Angelina finally went home, it was completely dark outside. Bright stars lit up in the sky. White flakes of snow fell softly to the ground. Angelina was in a great mood, and every now and then she began to dance on the sidewalk, to the surprise of passers-by.

The houses that the little mouse walked by were so warm and cozy! A light smoke curled from the chimneys, the windows shone invitingly, and a Christmas wreath was already hanging on each door. Only the very last house on the street seemed abandoned and forlorn.

Angelina went up to him and looked through the dark window. She saw the elderly postman, Mr. Bell, who was sitting huddled in an armchair near the fireplace.

Angelina rushed home with all her paws. Out of breath, she burst into the kitchen, where her mother and cousin Henry were preparing a delicious holiday dinner, and told about what she saw.
"Poor Mr. Bell," Mrs. Mouseuss shook her head sadly. “Once he served as a postman in our town, but now he has become quite old and can no longer work.”

Angelina immediately decided that Mr. Bell should definitely get something for Christmas.

Mom made the dough, and Angelina and Henry began to make sweet curly cookies. They cut out stars, bells and Christmas trees from the dough.
Henry made a big cookie for Santa Claus.
“Look how beautiful it turned out! - proudly squeaked the kid. “I won’t go to bed today, I’ll wait for Santa Claus to come, and I’ll give him cookies myself!”
"No, Henry," said Angelina sternly. - Santa Claus comes at night when all the children are already fast asleep. Leave the cookies on the mantelpiece. Santa Claus will understand that it is for him. And now quickly to bed!”

Henry stamped his paw and whimpered: “Noooo! I won't sleep! I want to see Santa Claus!"

Stop it, Henry! You can't be such a crybaby!" Angelina got angry.

But Henry didn't calm down. Finally Mrs. Mouse took him in her arms and carried
    to bed.

In the morning, Angelina helped mum and dad to put cookies, sweet pies and a head of cheese into the basket for Mr. Bell. “Henry, do you want to go with Angelina?
asked Mrs. Mouse. "That's what Mr. Bell will be happy about when you bring him Christmas treats!" But little Henry was still offended and did not say a word in response.

Angelina and her father took the basket and went to Mr. Bell's. On the way they bought a big fluffy Christmas tree for the elderly gentleman. Henry trudged after them, frowning.

The old postman was very happy with the guests. He kissed Angelina, shook hands with Mr. Mouse. And then I noticed the lonely figure of little Henry. “Why don’t you come to visit
, my friend? said Mr. Bell kindly. - Welcome!"
When everyone went into the house, the venerable old man smiled slyly at the guests: “Come on, friends, wait for me!”

A few minutes later he reappeared in the living room. Angelina and Henry looked at him - and gasped!

    In front of them stood…

    ...a real SANTA CLAUS!

“Once upon a time, I was Santa Claus at the town's Christmas party,” Mr. Bell sighed. "It was a glorious time!" He hugged Henry, put him on his lap and began to tell different stories.

At this time, Angelina was decorating the Christmas tree, and Mr. Mouse took out cookies from the basket and brewed fragrant tea.

“Everyone in town knew me,” Mr. Bell recalled. “And they got used to the fact that in any weather I rode a bicycle and delivered letters and parcels. And on the eve of Christmas, I always brought presents to the mice.
One day there was a strong snowstorm, all the roads were covered with snow. Then I put the gifts in a sled, got on my skis and went forward, despite the wind and blizzard.
I was terribly cold and almost lost my way... But still, the mice got their Christmas presents on time!”

    Henry listened with bated breath.

Finally, the guests began to say goodbye to the kind host.
Before leaving, Henry put his paw in the pocket of his little coat, took out a large cookie made especially for Santa Claus, and handed it to Mr. Bell.
“Thank you, my little friends! - the old man said excitedly. - What a wonderful gift! In recent years, no one has given me anything for Christmas!”

He hugged the mice, and tears flashed in his eyes. Angelina wished Mr. Bell a Merry Christmas and invited him to the school for the holiday. “Just be sure to put on a Site-Claus costume!” she asked.

“I will definitely come!” said the former postman.

Mr. Bell kept his promise: he came to the party dressed as Santa Claus.
