Songfacts®:
  • Here, Carrie Underwood explains why the Christmas season is her favorite time of the year. Such holiday traditions as unpacking the Christmas lights, snuggling up by the fire, stockings on chimneys, and watching old black-and-white movies are some of the things that make her happy during the festive period.

"'Favorite Time of Year' is a song about all of the things that make you smile during Christmas," said Underwood. "There's so much about Christmas that is absolutely wonderful. Obviously, the birth of Jesus, that's what we're celebrating, but there's so many other things too – like the presents, the family, the weather, the decorations – just all those things all wrapped up to make the favoriteist time of year, the favorite of year. So, I love the song because it's hard to sing it without smiling."

  • "Favorite Time of Year" appears as an extra track exclusively on Amazon Music for Underwood's first Christmas album. The songs on the record are roughly evenly split between new songs and traditionals, and this bonus gift is one of three that she had a hand in writing herself.

  • Underwood wrote the song with frequent collaborators Hillary Lindsey and Chris DeStefano. Other tunes the three have penned together include "Little Toy Guns" and "Smoke Break."

  • Greg Wells produced the song along with the rest of My Gift. Wells has written and produced tracks for such artists as Kelly Clarkson ("I Do Not Hook Up") and Keith Urban ("Wasted Time"), as well as the worldwide smash The Greatest Showman soundtrack.

  • The song soundtracked Ring's 2020 Doorbell Season holiday ad. We see people watching on their phones as Underwood delivers gifts and serenades the homeowners from their front steps.

My Favourite Time of Year

My name is Leigh Haggerwood and I've been a musician, writing songs and working as a media composer for many years. In 2010 I realised that we rarely hear new Christmas songs these days. Instead, TV talent shows have taken over and the Christmas charts are no longer exciting and full of the new festive songs I found so magical as a child in the early 80s. Instead, the same old songs play year after year and I wanted to do something about this. So I set about writing a traditional-style song that would have a Christmas carol quality, with all of the festive elements like piano, a choir, strings, chimes, sleigh bells etc. As the Christmas song evolved, it was as if it was meant to be because it happened very quickly. I imagined a Victorian-themed music video with snow falling and excited people going about their business on Christmas eve, and by the time I'd finished the song I knew I had to make a magical video.

My Favourite Time of Year - How it all began...

So I got in touch with all of the major record companies and asked for their support. Sadly, none of them were willing to back the idea as they believed the market for Christmas music in the UK was dead due to TV talent show winners dominating the Christmas charts every year. Undeterred by this, I decided to form The Florin Street Band and raid my life savings to fund the project, albeit on a very tight budget....

The String Section

Recoridng in Sarm studio 2

Once the song was finished, the first step was to book the musicians that would accompany me on the recording - and collectively be called The Florin Street Band. I asked some of my musician friends, found a session string section and contacted The English Chamber Choir to see if they'd be willing to perform backing vocals. I then got in touch with one of the few studios in London with a live room big enough to accommodate the choir - Trevor Horn's Sarm Studios. I booked a week in July and worked with Trevor's chief engineer Tim Weidner. I produced the song myself and co-mixed it with Tim and, after a mammoth mix session lasting 16 hours, the version that you hear was finished. By coincidence, the live room at Sarm studios was also used to record Band Aid in 1984, and we even borrowed Trevor Horn's personal set of sleigh bells! The next step was to make the Victorian music video I had in mind....  (this all sounds so easy!?!!)

The Music Video...

After an extensive search, I was fortunate enough to discover a talented director called Nick Bartleet who shared my vision of snow-filled streets, fires and lanterns. Despite the tight budget, we worked hard to make the idea become reality and even attracted the skills of top American Cinematographer, John Perez. Blists Hill Victorian Town at Ironbridge in Shropshire was chosen as the location. Blists Hill is an authentic recreation of Victorian life in the UK and it's part of the Ironbridge museums - an educational charity created to preserve the heritage of Ironbridge which is considered the birth place of the industrial revolution. The beautiful streets and houses seemed perfect for the video and the museum was very enthusiastic about the project. Many of the characters from the museum appeared in the video.

This is how the Florin Street story began in 2010. Since then it has spread around the world. I've been amazed at the response, and encouraged to create a Florin Street Christmas musical which I hope to bring to the stage and big screen. Winter Wonder is the first song to be released as part of the musical, and it was filmed in Bath at Christmas 2013. Find out more here...

My Favourite Time of Year
Words & music by Leigh Haggerwood

Verse 1

Lanterns lighting up the town,
Peace on earth is all around,
Everything is calm on Christmas Eve.
There's goodwill in the air tonight,
Angels sing by candle light,
Their voices carried on the wind.
When carol singers gather round,
When I hear that festive sound,
I wanna join with them and sing!

Chorus

They sing a merry song and we all sing along,
A festive melody that tells us Christmas time is here.
See the stars tonight; they're shining bright,
'Cause it's Christmas time and it's my favourite time of year.

Verse 2

Deck the halls with boughs of holly,
Give me mistletoe; it's the season to be jolly,
Wrapping presents, writing cards, helping decorate the tree,
But there's one thing that makes it all for me.
When carol singers gather round,
Angel voices fill the town,
It's like the world is joining in!
(Noel, Noel, Noel)

Chorus

They sing a merry song and we all sing along,
A festive melody that tells us Christmas time is here.
See the stars tonight; they're shining bright,
'Cause it's Christmas time and it's my favourite time of year.

Middle 8

Christmas Eve,
Still believe,
So excited,
Can't sleep,
When the morning comes,
Church bells ring,
And he's been!

Chorus

They sing a merry song and we all sing along,
A festive melody that tells us Christmas time is here.
See the stars tonight; they're shining bright,
'Cause it's Christmas time and it's my favourite time of year.
And it's my favourite time of year
(Noel, Noel)

4 compositions on the topic "My favorite season"

Author: Guru ·

We have compiled this selection of 4 essays about each season. In terms of volume and content, they are suitable for all students in grades 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6. Each work reveals the advantage of one or another pore, filled with originality and charm.

Content:

  • 1 Winter
  • 2 Spring
  • 3 Summer
  • 4 Autumn

Winter

(185 words) It seems to me that winter is the most beautiful and fabulous season. There is a lot of snow everywhere, unique snowflakes are slowly falling, and people rush to take pictures of the flickering lights of the city. During the three winter months, life changes, and for the better.

Of course, during this period you can ski, sledge, and skate to your heart's content. And if you do all this in the company of family and friends, then these moments of the statute are the most memorable! Winter is beautiful and Happy New Year. Streets and squares are dressed in colorful and bright costumes to please every person. A variety of exhibitions, installations, decorations - all this makes December magical and wonderful. At this time, it is a sin to sit at home and be sad. But at the same time, what is winter without home comfort? For many, it is associated with good films, books, cocoa, pastries, garlands and, of course, a Christmas tree. And on December 31, every house is filled with joy. The closest people meet, exchange gifts, give each other smiles and love. It is in the New Year that everyone feels happy again.

Every year I look forward to winter, because it is so beautiful and festive! Frosts do not frighten me, because it is in this cold, formidable time that you can feel the warmth and comfort of your home.

Spring

(188 words) My favorite season is spring. It is during this period that the snow begins to melt, giving way to still small, but already green grass. Buds swell on the trees, migratory birds arrive again, and the sun begins to shine even brighter and warmer. Everything seems to come alive and reborn!

At the very beginning of spring we are greeted by a kind holiday - March 8! On this day, because of the abundance of flowers and smiles, we understand that spring has come. The days are getting longer and the weather is warmer and sunnier every day. At this time of the year, it is difficult to sit at home, because it beckons to breathe fresh spring air! This time of the year is also wonderful because people also begin to be reborn and renewed, not yielding to nature. Many change their images, try something new, dream, rejoice, believe and love. Life is so churning! In addition to the women's holiday, in the spring we are waiting for Labor Day and Victory Day, which always unite people and give a sense of unity with the country. Good weather sets up for an active holiday at the weekend.

Spring is the sun, grass, fresh air, joy and happiness. Changes in nature beckon to smile for no reason. That's why I love this time of year! It gives hope and inspires good deeds.

Summer

(194 words) Oh, summer… This is my favorite time of the year. The weather allows you to walk all day without wearing several layers of clothing. The sun shines brightly, and the wind gently blows on tanned skin. In addition, this is a vacation time, so you can read all day long or draw, for example. In summer, all friends are free, which means that you can visit new places at least every day and create memorable moments.

The nature in summer is simply incredible. She wants to capture her as a keepsake. Also at this time, a lot of ripe fruits and berries appear, with which you can pamper yourself as much as you want. But in the summer you can not only relax. You can spend your free time on sports, on learning something new and useful. Yes, in these three months you can generally change dramatically! For example, learn to swim. What is summer without a river? When the weather allows, my friends and I always go swimming. We like to swim or just play in the water. In addition, we love to arrange picnics with fun contests. In August, my family often goes to rest on the sea. I like to spend time with my loved ones, so I look forward to this trip every year with great impatience!

It seems to me that summer is a small life that must be spent colorfully and brightly!

Autumn

(192 words) Autumn is sung by many poets, writers, composers and artists. This is the most colorful and favorite time of the year.

Everything is beautiful in autumn, especially nature. It acquires a wide variety of colors that delight the eye. Walking in the park is a real pleasure! Leaves rustle underfoot, clouds slowly float across the sky, and pleasant thoughts keep coming to mind, and they cannot be stopped... It seems to me that yellow, orange and red are synonymous with autumn. Trees put on their festive costumes and give people a good mood. Yes, autumn is not complete without rain, but it can also be a real source of inspiration. At this time, my family and I always go for mushrooms. I am looking forward to this moment with great anticipation. Sometimes we also go to the park just to feed the ducks and squirrels. On autumn evenings I love to read. I always sit in my favorite big armchair and "plunge" into another world. On weekends, my family likes to watch some kind films or just drink tea and cake at the same table.

September, October and November are my favorite months of the year. I always try to make them memorable! I see uniqueness in each of them: September is Indian summer, October is a carnival of bright foliage, and November is a harbinger of winter holidays.

Composition "My favorite season is summer" » "Composition about..." ✔️

Each person has his favorite season. I love summer most of all, and not only because it brings us long-awaited holidays.

It gets really warm and sunny in summer. Summer is the best time to travel. My family and I often arrange small trips to nature outside the city.

In summer, nature is fully revealed in its beauty. You can endlessly admire the beauty of meadows and forests, go to the forest for berries and mushrooms, and what marvelous flowers summer gives us. In addition, new opportunities are opening up that are not available to us in winter, autumn or spring.

In summer the water becomes warm and you can swim and sunbathe. In addition, many fruits and berries ripen, which I love very much.

I love summer and always look forward to it. After all, summer nature comes to life and makes us feel life to the fullest.

Option 2

When I was asked at school to write an essay about my favorite season, I didn't hesitate for long. Yes, I like golden autumn, snow-white winter. I also love spring when the trees are in bloom. But my favorite time of the year is summer!

I especially love the arrival of summer. This is the time when heat and stuffiness do not yet rule over cities and villages. There are many flowers around. And even white "candles" still glow on the chestnuts. The evenings are warm, but a fresh breeze blows. I don’t sit at home, I want to walk, have fun. And the people around also feel something similar: everyone is in a festive, high spirits.

During the summer holidays, you can enjoy life to the fullest: travel, swim on the beach, play football, basketball or badminton, ride a bike. There is a lot of time to read books that you want, and not just the school curriculum. There is time to sit at the computer freely, but you should not get carried away with this. After all, it is a beautiful time of the year in the yard, there is not a minute to lose!

Of course, summer is often hot and stuffy, especially in a big dusty city. But I don’t want to trade this warmth for the winter cold! I don't want to get into a sheepskin coat and boots!

I like summer not only because I have holidays in summer. At this time of the year, nature is so generous with gifts: vegetables, fruits, berries. The cherry will ripen first. Then dark sweet cherries will ripen, and then - apples, grapes and plums. True, I love summer because, among other seasons, it is the most generous to us!

Option 3 “Summer is my favorite time of the year”

Summer has come, wonderful and my favorite time of the year. It is at this time that you can properly relax and gain strength. On weekends, people try to leave the stuffy city for nature and relax there. It is especially good to relax near the lake. You can sunbathe, swim, fish. Or you can just sit on the shore and admire the lake, its enchanting beauty. It is like a huge mirror, which is fraught with a lot of mysteries. Water removes negative energy, so it is near the lake or the sea that you can gain a lot of strength.

Summer is also a great time to travel. It is especially interesting to go hiking when a person gets closer to nature. It was then that you begin to understand how much a person depends on nature.

Nice to sit on a warm summer evening on the river bank. When you look at the river, you begin to think how beautiful nature is, and what a pity that you can’t take this beauty with you. How you do not want to go back to the stuffy apartment, but you still want to be in nature, absorb the aromas of meadow herbs and the freshness of the morning race.

And for some reason, summer is the shortest time of the year, despite the fact that it lasts like all other seasons for three months. Ah, what a wonderful time it is!

Option 4 “My favorite time of the year is Summer”

Summer is the most delightful time of the year for recreation. It is in summer that you can have a good rest. Walking in the park in the early morning, you can have a good rest, forget about problems, the most important thing is to be able to relax in nature.

Walking through the summer park, you need to enjoy the splendor of nature. Paying attention to the beautiful world around us, we begin to forget about the bad.
