Firefighter dramatic play

Fire Station Dramatic Play - Pocket of Preschool

Transform the dramatic play center into a Fire Station!  This is a perfect learning activity during a fire safety theme or a community helpers theme.  It’s a great opportunity to teach your preschool, pre-k, or kindergarten students what do to if there is an emergency.  Teaching health and safety is important so students know what to do if there is a real emergency.  By making a pretend fire station, students can act out and practice what do in various emergency situations.

As you can see above, I have two white shelves on both sides of the center.  This shelf has all the firefighter equipment they will need to act out various emergency situations.  Most of the props I made or found at the dollar store.  I did buy four Firefighter dress up outfits which came with hats and walkie talkies from Target.   Another option is this one from Amazon, though a bit more expensive.  I’ll tell you how I made the props later in this post.

The other shelf is for all the things firefighters need at the firehouse like a kitchen, table, cooking props and dog house.  The 911 station is on this side too!  I made the 911 station with a table, a laptop computer and a few printables (phone book and pretend phones).

Here’s my favorite part:  the house that’s “on fire”!  I made it by taping two of those cardboard presentation boards together.  Then the students painted the “bricks” on the side and after it dried, I cut window holes in it.  The “fire” is cut up red, orange and yellow plastic tablecloths from the dollar store.
Students can put the fire in the windows and take it out during play as they pretend to “put out” the fire.

Firefighters At Work

Check out these two firefighters putting out the fire!  The hoses are plastic tubing from Lowes.   They could also stack the red “fire” cups up and pretend it was a fire too.

My students LOVE animals so they decided to pretend to “save the kitty” from the burning building.  It’s an easy way to practice taking care of others and build compassion for others and animals.

The fire extinguishers are just plastic spray bottles from the dollar store that I covered in red duck tape.  The air tank is made with an empty juice bottle and duck tape.  I taped stripes around it with duck tape and hot glued ribbon to the back to create straps.  Add labels to the front to create meaningful environmental print.

In an emergency, students may need to call 911.  It’s important to practice that during play!  I added a phone book with their phone numbers to help students learn their parents’ phone numbers as well.
This unit is the perfect time to teach what to do in various emergencies or have firefighters come to the school to teach fire safety.

Fire Truck

You can’t have a fire station without a fire truck!  Again, I used a trifold cardboard presentation board to create a fire truck.  I painted it red with a window, made a stripe with white duck tape and glued on gears and buttons.  The printable gears and buttons are in my Fire Station Dramatic Play pack.

Road Maps!  I’m always trying to think of fun ways to sneak in math, literacy and fine motor.  I thought to make neighborhood maps students can trace. Before they drive the fire truck, they can trace the map so they know where the emergency is.  The maps are laminated so students can trace them with a dry erase marker over and over and over.  Exploring maps is a fun way for students to explore maps and tracing the path exercises those fine motor muscles.

After the emergency is over, the firefighters can write a report and reflect on what they did at work.  They love using little clipboards because they felt like an adult.   I love it because they are writing and reading!  If you have three-year-olds, they will scribble but just remember that is an important stage in writing too.

Dramatic Play Fire Station

This post may contain affiliate links.  See disclosure page for full details.

A fire station is one of our favorite dramatic play centers.  It can be used any time of year, but we love using it with our Health and Safety month.

During our Health and Safety unit we study transportation and transportation safety, fire safety –including classroom fire drills and procedures as well as fire fighters and fire stations etc.  Then, we do a Doctor’s office dramatic play center and learn about keeping our body healthy and then add minor changes to the doctor’s office to do a week of dental health.

This fire station would also be fabulous for a community helper theme or anytime during the beginning of the school year when we are practicing emergency procedures and drills.

Pair this dramatic play center with some Fire Safety Week Activities to integrate learning about fire fighters and fire stations with your math and literacy activities and centers in the preschool classroom or with your preschooler at home.

Your fire fighter dramatic play center can be easily created and can be as simple or extravagant as you’d like!  Most of my fire station is made from items I already had, plus printables from my Fire Station Dramatic Play materials in my TPT store.

DIY Dramatic Play Fire Truck

I made my own using my lemonade stand (that I use for almost all my dramatic play centers) some paper, duct tape, and cups.  I happened to have a red yoga mat that was easy for me to tape around the outside, but red butcher paper would work well. I also just used a large piece of cardboard on the side and covered it with red paper and duct tape to make it look like it had a ladder.

I used my circle punches for the lights. (I have many different size circle punches that I use all the time for crafts and art!) This is the large punch I used for headlights.

The lights on top of the “truck” are just clear cups that I painted on the inside and hot glued onto a piece of duct tape.

DIY Props

FIRE HOSES:

I used old computer cords that I found in a box and taped some toilet paper tubes to the ends.  I added blue streamers/crepe paper to make it look like water was spraying out.

FIRE FIGHTER CLOTHES:

I found a fire fighter outfit at my local thrift store during Halloween season, but this one is similar.

FIRE EXTINGUISHERS:

I made “fire extinguishers” with plain spray bottles found at the Dollar Store.  I wrapped them with colored Duct Tape and used labels from my Dramatic Play printable set.

AIR TANKS:

I made an “air tank” using an empty protein powder container, label and duct tape.  You can also use an old 2 Liter Bottle, Juice bottle, Oatmeal container, etc. I just folded the duct tape and attached it as backpack straps and it worked great!

BURNING BUILDING:

This could be created in many ways –on a flat wall or with just part of a posterboard, etc.   I made mine using an empty box.  I simply glued on the windows, doors, and smoke, and then added the fire with Velcro dots, so they could be removed as my fire fighters sprayed the fire out

Arizona, 2013. The state was shaken by a terrible fire caused by a severe drought in the region. The liquidation was taken up by a team consisting of 19 brave guys. Everyone has a different fate, standard of living and ideas about the future.

Team leader Brandon McDonough, along with a squad, arrived to help local firefighters who were unable to cope with the destructive force of the elements. Many obstacles created by fire have to be bypassed by rescuers, and not everyone will be able to survive this struggle.

Fires are raging in Karelia. The settlements of ordinary people are under the threat of destruction. In the movie about forest firefighters, the best brigade in the region is thrown to save the population and nature, each of whose members has their own accounts with the flaming elements.

As it turned out, the fire has long gone out of control, and rescuers need to make a serious decision about the evacuation of local residents in distress. And this means that a team of professionals, under the leadership of foreman Sokolov, will have to enter into an unequal battle with the flames, and it is not known what the price of victory in this battle will be.

The death of fellow veteran Andrew Darden sparks a misunderstanding between Severide and Casey, who blame each other for the death of their partner. In the midst of the conflict and the newcomer to the service with his mother because of the choice of profession. The team has to make difficult decisions every day, relying only on luck and the help of colleagues.

Curiously, fire brigades are not allowed to grow beards - facial hair interferes with the tight fit of protective equipment, and Anthony Farris, thanks to whom the most spectacular scenes of the film look authentic, is still working as a fireman. Jamie Bamber, Taron Egerton, Gerard Kearns, Rushan Stone, David Walmsley, Pippa Bennett-Warner, Jodie Whittaker, Dorian Locke, Martin Ellis, Sam Gittins

Kev Allison is distinguished by a noble character, with age acquired disillusionment to life. He is the head of the fire brigade. Once, during a serious fire, Kev had a chance to survive the betrayal of a colleague, but he still continues to believe in people, which is facilitated by new firefighting assistants - Mel, Trish, Dennis and Ziggy. Together they will have to solve problems, both related to the service and in their personal lives.

Only God can change his heart, instilling love that can reconcile him with his wife and not bring divorce to the family. Only faith in the Almighty can save their union, and with every passing moment, things that seemed impossible become simple and real.

The actor who played the main character refused the honorarium, asking to transfer these funds as a donation for his ministry.

Tower

Rating

On Christmas Eve, everyone is waiting for a miracle and happiness that the festive night should bring. But desires do not always coincide with reality. So the celebrating in the chic Tower Sky tower, in the center of Seoul, did not suspect that their party would end in tragedy.

The strongest fire began to cover the 120-story building. Many destinies are united by this drama. Dae Ho, a single father, changed his plans to spend time with his daughter at a party. And the head of the fire department Yong Ki freed the evening, wanting to celebrate it with his wife. Different people gathered there, but they were bound by fire.

In connection with the impending tragedy, all rescue units and available reserves are mobilized, including the former head of the fire department, recently demoted due to the death of a subordinate.

Raging flames can cover cyanide tanks in addition to oil storage facilities. Their damage will take the lives of millions of people.

The creators of the film about brave firefighters took as the basis of the plot an incident that really happened in the Tianjin port in the summer of 2015.

Cast John Sina, Kigen-Maikl Ki, Brianna Hildebrand, John Legizamo, Tyler Main, Finley Rose Slater, Dennis Haisbier, Cadmissa incredible scenarios. The seemingly difficult work of the heroes of the film about firefighters becomes, though not a comedy, but something calm and ordinary compared to their new duties...

By chance, Jake Carson and his subordinates have to become nannies for three children rescued from an impending fire. As it turned out, kids who cannot be handed over to their parents are able to fundamentally turn the ideas of experienced rescuers both about the service and life in general. After all, the process of educating the younger generation is no less unpredictable than the flaming elements.

Team 49 is a group of firefighters led by experienced Captain Mike Kennedy. After going through hundreds of severe trials by fire, the men rallied and became true friends. This is not just colleagues, but a strong and friendly family. Not so long ago, Jack Morrison appeared in the brigade, who all his life was “burning” with this profession and dreamed of saving people.

Once again fighting with the fire element, Jack rushed to pull the girl out of the burning building, but he himself was surrounded by fire. The fearless rescuer was crushed by a ladder, and he could not get out. While Morrison was blocked by a fiery wall, his whole life flashed before his eyes: the first fire, the meeting with the charming Linda, the wedding, the birth of children.

Will Sawyer was a former FBI hostage rescue agent. Now he has a wonderful family and a calm, measured life. The ex-military is now a high-rise building security expert. One day, Will is sent on a business trip to China. A man with his wife and children become the first residents of a new high-rise building where he will have to work.

One day there is a big fire in the building and the fire starts to spread upwards. The flames engulf the floor where the Sawyer family lives and they can't get out. Will will have to save his family and find those who set fire to the most high-tech and safe skyscraper in the country.

Fires and accidents are common in a metropolitan area. There are also global cataclysms, natural disasters. The lives of citizens depend on the coherence of work, efficiency and professionalism of rescuers. Captain Bobby Nash and his team, which has become a large and friendly family, will not let you down.

Interestingly, Oliver Stark intended to quit his acting career, change jobs and become a member of the fire brigade on the eve of the offer to film in the series, and the actors who played Maddie Kendall and her husband Doug are married in real life and have three children. Cast Jessica Ortiz, Jason Winston George, Gray Damon, Barrett Doss, Jay Hayden, Danielle Savre, Okyerete Onaodovan, Boris Cojo, Miguel Sandoval, Stefania Spampinato . Ben quit the hospital where he worked as an anesthetist to become a firefighter. As a doctor, the man managed to face various difficult situations, and now he is sure that working directly in the center of events will give him more opportunities to save people. But on the very first working day, he encounters misunderstanding from his new partners. They openly laugh at him, not taking his former career seriously.

Andy is a young girl with a strong masculine character. She does what she loves and flawlessly fulfills the mission entrusted to her. Herrera is straightforward and determined, but at the same time infinitely kind and always tries to help those who are in trouble. Colleagues do not realize that the girl has long been in love and suffers from unrequited feelings.

The serial film about firefighters is a spin-off to Grey's Anatomy.

Save me (TV series)

0014

The main character is fireman Tommy Gavin. During a terrible tragedy in 2001, a man witnessed the death of colleagues and best friend. He feels guilty for having survived and cannot recover from the terrible events. The man began to talk to himself often, became addicted to alcohol, which aggravated the depressive state.

As a result, Tom's wife leaves: she always hated her husband's profession, and his behavior brought him to the point of no return. The unfortunate firefighter cannot come to terms with the fact that his wife and three children are no longer around, and he buys a house not far from them. Will a traumatized person be able to sort out his life and return his relatives?

Interestingly, Jack McGee, who played the role of chief in the film about the dead firefighters, actually worked as a rescuer before switching to the acting path, and the characters in the picture in the conversation mention the real-life firefighter Paddy Brown.

The firefighters weren't destined to spend this evening quietly and calmly. A call came in: a small warehouse is on fire. Rescuers went to work with the confidence that they could easily and quickly eliminate the fire. But a small fire grew to a gigantic size and turned into a terrible disaster. Will seasoned firefighters be able to defeat the fire and survive this night?

In the past, Hanna led a fire brigade and saved lives. But one day, during a forest fire, she was unable to save her subordinate and three boys, who accidentally ended up in the epicenter of the disaster. For more than a year she has not been able to cope with depression: a woman is tormented by guilt, she constantly has nightmares.

She now works in a Montana national park. Its task is to prevent and prevent natural disasters. One day, Hanna meets a boy who is trying to escape from brutal killers and tries to save him. But, as it turns out, they will have to escape not only from the killers, but also from the fire that has engulfed the forest.

Interestingly, the lead actress, Jolie, met real firefighters and asked about the details of their profession, and the area with the scenery of the forest was really set on fire to heighten the effect.

Aleksey is the head of the fire department. He fights fire every day and saves people, risking his life. However, he has long considered his heroic work to be a common thing. Outside the firehouse, he becomes an ordinary person with problems, conflicts and love experiences.

Three years ago, Alexei's wife left him in favor of a wealthy Italian. This broke the heart of a loving man, and for a long time he could not come to terms with the betrayal of his wife. After a while, he coped with his feelings and fell in love. Now Lyosha is happy with a charming girl named Dasha.

She appeared in difficult times and restored faith in sincere love. A man is about to ask for the hand of his beloved, when suddenly his ex Sophia appears and wants to start all over again. And the hero-firefighter finds himself between two fires, only not at work, but in life ...

To prepare for the shooting of a film about the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the director, cameraman and director watched the work of prototypes of the heroes of films about firefighters and rescuers for two days.

Inferno

The story centers on a team of firefighters from Hong Kong. Fearless heroes, fighting fire, have already faced the most unpredictable situations hundreds of times and, risking their lives, saved people. However, what happened this time made even such experienced rescuers scared. It was a normal morning that did not portend trouble. But soon the air temperature began to rise inexorably: such heat had not been seen for the past fifty years.

The scorching heat set a high-rise building on fire with hundreds of people inside. Very quickly, the fire grew to terrifying proportions, and several people were in a fiery ring. A team of experienced firefighters will once again fight the terrible elements, putting their own lives on the line... Director Timur Kabulov Cast Dmitry Dyuzhev, Vladimir Sychev, Ekaterina Vulichenko, Yuri Nazarov, Anna Khristich, Andrey Snezhko, Willyami

Matvey works as a firefighter in the capital and soon plans to marry a girl he has been dating for a long time. Fate makes its own adjustments when a man saves a little boy from the fire. The parents of the child die, and the rescuer feels personally responsible for the baby.

Olga refuses to accept someone else's child, and such behavior of the "ideal" companion seems strange. The couple will have to overcome many trials and decide on the possibility of building a joint future. Not everyone can take responsibility for children who will never become family to them.

Little Boris in the film is played by the three-year-old at the time of filming the son of actor Vadim Demchog - William.

Twin Towers

A terrorist attack destroyed the World Trade Center and killed hundreds. Almost all city rescue teams and police were sent to the place, but not everyone managed to get out from under the rubble of buildings. In an instant, the lives of a huge number of people changed dramatically, but those in trouble continued to fight for survival to the end.

The director wanted to see the real Dave Cairns on the set and tried to persuade him to act in the role of himself. The Marine acknowledged the authenticity of the tape, but refused to cooperate.

9008 A dog named Rex starred in TV shows and commercials. He is valued for his ability to follow commands and demonstrate incredible jumping ability. The animal is wearing a collar with precious stones, and the whole harem is always ready to provide him with a range of necessary services.

Once on the set, due to an oversight of the staff, the dog gets lost, and for a long time wanders along the streets of a big city along with other stray animals. He is becoming less and less like a TV star, as he gradually loses his former gloss. A dilapidated fire station becomes his refuge, on the territory of which he finds a true friend in the person of 12-year-old Shane.

In the role of Rex, four different dogs of the same breed can be seen in the frame, due to the specific tricks they could perform. The credits show the results of a real-life competition about dogs: the participants had to write an essay revealing why their dog can be called a hero.

They have a difficult relationship, which negatively affects the atmosphere in the team. Every day they go to the place of fires to prevent another disaster. They have to cooperate with an investigator working on a case of an arsonist with manic tendencies. His actions have already led to deaths, and the number of victims continues to grow.

The screenplay was written by Gregory Wyden, a former firefighter who lost a friend, and the lead actors did many of their own stunts.

10 firefighter movies that will impress anyone

June 13, 2021 Likbez Movie

Soviet and American classics are waiting for you, as well as modern large-scale works with famous actors.

10. Bonfire in the white night

  • USSR, 1984.

  • Duration: 85 minutes.
  • IMDb: 5.8.
A shot from the film "Bonfire in the White Night"

In the midst of the dry summer of 1971, a geological exploration expedition working near the village of Yerbogachen stumbles upon a layer of permafrost. Wishing to fulfill the plan as soon as possible, one of the masters orders to thaw the soil with fires. Soon the fire spreads to the forests and the whole village is in danger.

Boris Buneev's painting is based on Yuri Sbitnev's book Fire. Moreover, the author personally adapted the novel to the script. He considered the region of the Nizhnyaya Tunguska River to be his creative homeland, and therefore he devoted many works to the Irkutsk region located there. The "Fire" was based on real events that took place near the village of Yerbogachen. The director only had to turn the plot into a real disaster film - a genre rare for the Soviet Union.

9. Anxious Sunday

  • USSR, 1983.
  • Thriller.
  • Duration: 86 minutes.
  • IMDb: 6.4.

A foreign tanker arrives at one of the Black Sea ports. To repair a minor breakdown, three locksmiths and a trainee are sent on board. They soon find themselves in mortal danger as the ship catches fire. The scale of the tragedy is growing by the minute, and firefighters cannot reach their destination due to a blocked road.

Disaster films are rare in Soviet cinema. But it was Anxious Sunday, along with The Crew and the film Ambulance 34, that became a classic of the genre. Director Rudolf Fruntov managed to perfectly combine a large-scale thriller with a human drama.

8. Team 49: Fire Ladder

Ladder 49

  • Drama, thriller.
  • Duration: 115 minutes.
  • IMDb: 6. 5.

7. Tower

Tawo

  • South Korea, 2012.
  • Drama, thriller.
  • Duration: 121 minutes.
  • IMDb: 6.6.
A still from the film The Tower

On Christmas Eve, the owner of the 120-storey twin towers throws a luxurious party. Since there hasn't been any recent rainfall, he hires two helicopters to scatter artificial snow. But because of the strong wind, a catastrophe occurs and the building catches fire. Now firefighters need to make every effort to save as many people as possible.

Korean director Kim Ji-hoon had previously directed the not-too-successful disaster film Sector 7. But the "Tower" perfectly corrected all the shortcomings of the previous work. The author conceived this picture after watching Hollywood's "Heaving Hell" and wanted to convey the feelings of people who are cut off from the path of salvation. It turned out very large-scale and cruelly in Korean.

6. Hellfighters

Hellfighters

  • USA, 1968.
  • Drama, military, melodrama.
  • Running time: 121 minutes.
  • IMDb: 6. 6.
Still from the film "Hellfighters"

Chance Buckman led a team to put out fires in oil fields for many years. He saved many lives, but the risky profession ruined his marriage. After the injury, Chance gets a chance to look at his situation from the outside - his daughter marries a firefighter. But soon all the heroes will have to go on the most dangerous task: they must put out the fire in the war zone.

The film, starring the great John Wayne, is partly based on the biography of Red Adair. This legendary firefighter came up with new ways to extinguish the most difficult fires. He became famous after he coped with the "Devil's Lighter" - a fire at a gas well in Algeria. Its flame rose to 140 meters and was noticeable even from the earth's orbit.

5. Backdraft

Backdraft

  • USA 1991
  • Drama, thriller, detective.
  • Running time: 137 minutes.
  • IMDb: 6.7.

Brothers Stephen and Brian McCaffrey are firefighters, as was their father, who died in the service. That's just the relationship between men is very strained. Therefore, the youngest, Stephen, leaves the unit and goes to work as an investigator. He has to find an arsonist who kills his victims with a new substance that causes "reverse thrust" - an explosion due to the fact that oxygen enters the room.

Evaluating this film, professional firefighters noted that many of the details in it are shown unreliably: during real fires, nothing is visible inside the building. But it is clear that the authors of the picture had to make assumptions for the sake of visual aesthetics. Moreover, “Backdraft” does not pretend to be plausible: the plot combines a detective story, a thriller and a family drama.

4. Heaving Hell

The Towering Inferno

  • USA, 1974.
  • Drama, thriller.
  • Duration: 165 minutes.
  • IMDb: 7.0.

The world's tallest skyscraper is being built in San Francisco with 138 floors. Its grand opening is already planned, but the architect learns that the electricity was carried out with gross violations and the network will not withstand the full load. However, they do not listen to him, and as a result, hundreds of people are locked in fiery captivity.

In the early 1970s, there were many scandals in the United States related to the danger of fires in skyscrapers. Based on these current topics, two novels were published: The Tower by Richard Martin Stern and The Glass Hell by Thomas Scortia and Frank Robinson. According to them, they shot a picture, the most outstanding part of which turned out to be grandiose special effects. The carefully built interiors of the building and large-scale backgrounds are still impressive and create a sense of real danger.

In a dystopian future, all books are outlawed, and those who burn printed publications are called firefighters. Among them is Sergeant Guy Montag, who for a long time simply followed orders. But one meeting makes him think about a totalitarian society and go against the system.

Of course, in the adaptation of Ray Bradbury's legendary novel, firefighters are the exact opposite of the modern understanding of the word. But still, the classic painting by Francois Truffaut is directly related to fire. And yes, it's really good and worth watching.

John Sullivan's father was a firefighter and died 30 years ago. But the son-turned-cop still misses him. One day, John turns on an old radio station and mysteriously contacts his father shortly before he dies. The son manages to warn his dad, but the course of history is changing, and now they need to work together to catch the maniac.

This film is connected indirectly with firefighters, although the tragedy of the death of a close relative in a dangerous job is conveyed very touchingly. But the experimental picture deserves attention because of the unusual structure and sudden plot twists.
