Kids paint handprints

What is the Best Paint to Use for Kids to make Handprints?

Not all paints work the same. The best ones to use for handprint painting are *washable tempera paints. They should be labeled non-toxic and be sure to check that the label says washable. You will want ones that are not too runny and not too dry. I prefer to use *Crayola Kids Paint because I like the way the prints look using it and it's the only brand of white paint that shows up clear on black or other colored construction paper (for making things like footprint ghosts!).

The 10-pack of small bottles are perfect because you get a variety of colors. Sometimes I buy the 3-pack of primary colors since we tend to use those colors the most - this way we never run out!

Our next purchase is going to include these awesome-looking glitter paints for kids! I haven't seen these yet and am pretty excited about it since Little Sister loves to use glitter for everything - even handprint fish!

Crayola Glitter Paints

I also came across their kids paint in neon colors - another new item we will have to give a try!

Crayola Kids Paint: Neon Colors

Probably the most practical and cheapest would be to buy the powdered tempera paints. You can then mix them to the consistency you would like to use and you get more for your money. Just remember to store the leftovers in an airtight container.

Powdered Tempera Paint for Kids

Another set of 3 I love by Crayola is their Glitter It! Pearl It! Texture It! paint mediums for mixing. My favorite is the Pearl It! You add it to your regular colored paint (in a paint pallette or cup) and it makes that color turn a shimmery, slightly lighter tone. I used to use it in almost all our crafts! It's great for winter crafts as well as Easter, princess, and fairy crafts. The Glitter It! is a silver glitter mixing medium. We used this bottle quite a bit too, but I prefer to use regular colored glitter paints instead. The Texture It! adds a texture to your paint color that remind me of elephant skin. We have used it to make handprint elephants and more!

Glitter It! Pearl It! Texture It!

Acrylic paint tends to dry out quickly and also will stain clothes. You may use acrylic paints, however, they dry on the hand really fast causing the print to not turn out very well (lots of gaps). Although they are non-toxic, they are not very suitable for children. They are not washable! Be sure to use these with caution and make sure your entire work surface is covered. However, acrylic paint can be used to make handprints on t-shirts, potholders, towels, and so on. Just add a drop of water to the paint (and cover your work area!). This helps the print look nicer on fabric, etc.  You can usually find them at craft stores as well as stores like Wal-mart and Target.

Hand painting for children - a description of the technique with examples for children

–5 years old

  • For children 6–7 years old
  • Variants of hand painting
  • Drawing on a handprint
  • Peppa Pig
  • Birds and birds.
  • A bird with spread wings.
  • For application in kindergarten.
  • Flamingo
  • Fish
  • Dragon
  • Crafts for girls.
  • Cats and dogs.
  • Cheerful zoo.
  • Description of technique

    Hand painting is a non-traditional technique. Not all children like to work with a brush and pencil. In addition, at a younger age, well-balanced movements are difficult. It is much easier to draw with palms: I put paint on my hand, put it on paper - and the drawing is ready!

    Materials needed:

    • gouache set;
    • brush;
    • water cup;
    • landscape paper.

    Drawing technique:

    1. The child dips his finger into the gouache and puts dots on the paper.
    2. For the imprint of the entire hand, paint is applied to it with a brush, and the hand is pressed against the landscape sheet.
    3. It is not necessary to paint the palms in one tone. There can be many colors: multi-colored fingers, iridescent color, spots and patterns on the palms.
    4. To get interesting shapes, some fingers can be bent, spread out or, conversely, brought together.
    5. At the end of the creative activity, the hands are wiped with a damp cloth or washed under a tap with soap.

    In order for the handprint to come to life, it needs to be supplemented with eyes, ears, leaves or other details according to the topic of the lesson. For information on how to use your palm and fingers to get images of different characters, read on - in the section appropriate for the age group of your child.

    For 2-3 year olds

    For toddlers, use simple tasks and pictures. By age there will be a collective drawing of the sun, butterflies, octopuses. In addition to the standard set of materials, you will need blanks.

    How to draw the sun (collectively):

    1. Draw eyes and a smile by yourself. Circle them and color them with yellow gouache.
    2. Have the children smear paint (not necessarily yellow) on their palms.
    3. Explain that they will now draw rays. You need to put your palm on the paper next to the sun - all around.
    4. Sign each print.

    How to draw a butterfly:

    1. Prepare a worksheet for each child with a finished butterfly body (made of colored paper or drawn).
    2. Show how to put your hands on paper to make wings. You need to spread your fingers and connect the palms with the bases.
    3. Next, the children paint their own hands and make prints.

    For children 4–5 years old

    In the younger and middle group, hand painting can be supplemented with finger painting. If the theme is winter, then dotted prints draw snow, sea - underwater pebbles. You can draw a tree trunk, eyes, mouth with your fingers. Prints are also good to use for applications. An example with an autumn tree:

    How to draw a caterpillar in the younger group:

    1. Have the children put green paint on their palms.
    2. Place the landscape sheet horizontally to make the first print.
    3. Then the sheet is turned upside down and 3 more prints are placed next to it.
    4. The next step is to decorate the caterpillar. You need to flip the picture back. On the first print, children draw eyes and a mouth with their fingers, on the next print, bright boots on caterpillar legs.

    Other pictures you can draw:

    For children 6–7 years old

    In the senior, preparatory group, children already know how to correctly position the image on paper, transfer proportions and correlate sizes. They can name the characteristic features of objects and focus on them. At 6–7 years old, during a creative lesson, attention should be paid to details: patterns, background, character drawing. You can draw anything with your palms: animals, birds, fish, flowers, forest.

    How to draw a butterfly with the children of the preparatory group:

    1. First, preschoolers draw the butterfly's body, antennae and eyes with paints and a brush.
    2. Then the palms are smeared with gouache and 2 prints are made on each side.
    3. The next step is to pattern the butterfly wings.
    4. The lesson ends with the study of the background. You can simply paint over it with color or additionally draw flowers, the sun, a rainbow.

    How to draw a cockerel:

    1. An adult asks children to remember what color the plumage of a rooster, what comb, beak.
    2. Children put the fingers of the left hand together, and move the thumb to the side (cockerel's body and outstretched neck).
    3. It is necessary, using the named colors, to paint the palm and attach it to the sheet, making an imprint.
    4. Then the details are drawn with a brush: beak, eyes, crest, paws.
    5. At the end, the preschoolers draw a fence with a cockerel standing on it.

    Hand painting is one of the favorite activities for preschoolers. Technology provides the freedom to experiment. Children's work always turns out bright and colorful. You can combine several materials, then the drawings will acquire special expressiveness.

    Hand drawing options

    Drawing on a handprint

    A handprint is a base to which you can add anything: turn it into a flower, a sun, a hedgehog ...

    watch how his drawing changes. But then he can do it on his own.

    It's not just that you end up with a beautiful drawing. It's almost the perfect exercise to develop the imagination! A younger child usually just looks at the print and fills in the missing details.

    While an older preschooler can already plan a future masterpiece by leaving prints of a certain color in the right places. To do this, show him the basic techniques for creating figures from several prints, for example, a peacock and a spider, and then he himself!

    Peppa Pig

    Birds and birds.

    A package of hand drawings with birds will begin our article, with a variety of birds, from chickens to peacocks with chic tails. A beautiful unconventional print technique can turn a child's hand into any bird. Such an idea is suitable for an abstract with a lesson on non-traditional drawing techniques

    To make a chicken out of the palm, you need to draw a comb, a beard and a beak along the edge of the thumbprint. Add the outlines of the wing - and the picture from the palm is ready.

    And for the rooster, use gouache and a brush (or colored markers) to draw multi-colored feather arcs, you get a bright rooster tail. Drawing a tail is a fun activity that can be done with your fingers (children draw with their hands for fun).

    And you can pre-paint the palm in one neutral color, and each finger in a new bright gouache color. And then it turns out that the arched multi-colored fingers are the tail of the rooster in the figure.

    Hand painting - gives a lot of creative options for children's drawings. You just need to look at the print and understand what your bright palms look like.

    You can draw a duck in the same way. Here you need to close your fingers together with palm prints, because duck tails are neat, gathered in a pile. And at the end of the thumb draw an oval shape, this will be the head. We finish drawing the eye, duck beak and paws.

    In the same way, you can make a drawing of a peacock bird from a handprint. Each finger needs to be supplemented with elements already completed on the dried paint. The outlines of the feather hairs and the peacock eye at the end of the finger (as done in the figure below). A black marker or felt-tip pen draws perfectly on dried paint.

    You can paint the hand in different colors - the body of the bird is green, the first phalanx of the finger is covered with blue, and the second phalanx is blue, the third is purple. And we immediately get a colorful beautiful bird using the “drawing with palms” technique.

    You can apply your palm several times to a sheet of paper and get a drawing with a magnificent peacock tail. With your fingers, you can add bright yellow spots to the peacock feathers. Next, when the paint dries, cut out the silhouette of the body of the bird, and glue it to the center of our handprint. We will complete the craft-drawing by gluing the eyes, beak and paws.

    An adult hand with closed fingers could be the starting point for the peacock craft below. The base of the palm continues with the outlines of the breast and neck of the bird. Around the fingerprint add swirls of feathers and a pattern of "peacock eye".

    The DOVE paint drawing can also be created using the handprint technique. Here you need to spread your fingers to the sides as much as possible and smear the paint thicker. The center of the palm has a recess that will not be printed on paper - we simply paint over this unpainted place on the print with a brush. To the thumb we add a beak, an eye and a green branch of the world. A simple topic for an abstract of an open lesson on the topic CHILD AND SOCIETY.

    And here is another great idea - in painting with palms , combine HAND AND FOOT PRINTS together. As we see in the photo below, a footprint (the body of a cockatoo) and handprints (the bright plumage of a Brazilian bird) are involved in this drawing. The curved beak can be drawn on or cut out of colored paper.

    A bright red handprint can be easily drawn into a flamingo with a long, curving neck. The bend of the neck can be drawn with fingers, since we do not use a brush.

    Red bullfinch birds are also a great craft for kids. On winter branches, red winter birds look like a DIY New Year's card. We tint the background of the paper in advance in blue (using a thick blush brush and water painted over with gouache).

    Bullfinches are obtained if the palm (with closed fingers) is placed horizontally on a branch. And if the handprint is made vertically - across the branch, then we will get the outlines of an owl. We are waiting for the paint to dry, then we glue two round pieces of paper eyes. We finish drawing green leaves on a branch with our fingers, a yellow beak and paws on the bud. We get an excellent drawing with palms in the form of an OWL.

    A bird with open wings.

    If you print two palms at once (left and right), you can make more interesting drawings. For example, such a swallow can decorate a spring craft. The palm drawing needs to be supplemented only with a circle-head and three strokes of the tail. The idea is suitable for the summary of the drawing class for SPRING.

    An eagle bird is also obtained if the hands are printed in turn (right, then left) - placing them opposite each other (stroking the base of the palm on each other). We draw the white neck of the eagle with our fingers, dipping them in white gouache.

    As you can see, hand painting can represent absolutely any bird. Try to make yourself a STORK, a HERON (the frogs will be lower), a TITMOUSE with a yellow breast, a flock of cheerful SPARROWS.

    For application in kindergarten.

    Also, a handprint can be prepared and dried in advance for participation in an appliqué craft. In kindergarten classes, you can prepare the handprints of children in advance (by signing the name on the back so as not to confuse). In preparation for the application, we cut out the outlines of the palm, prepare other details of the future craft, and the task of the children is simply to collect all the elements of the picture together. Make a ROOK bird or chickens with a wing-palm. This hand-drawing craft is suitable for the younger group of kindergarten. Do not forget to make dots of snowfall with blue or white paint, and dots of grains in the feeder with yellow paint - for this you do not need a brush, you have FINGERS.

    And here is a cute hen with a wing-palm. Such an application in kindergarten is suitable for children of the younger group.

    Two prints of black hands - and we have the wings of a crow. Now we need 2 circles of black paper (smaller - head, larger - body), beak and legs of red paper. A great fun craft for children in the middle group of kindergarten.

    And here is a craft for the smallest children. Glue the body of an owl onto a sheet of paper, then two eyes and a beak. And it remains to add wings to her - typos of the palms with bright gouache. Great idea for kids.

    The same can be done with the yellow palm chicken. Drawing after the completed application. First we work with glue, then we paint our hands with gouache, print them and wash them under a tap with soap. In kindergarten, this work on the craft can be divided into 2 parts - in the first half of the day we do the application itself, and after sleeping, individually, in turn, the children approach the teacher, who applies paint to the palm and helps the child to print correctly. After applying, the teacher wipes off the main layer of paint with a cloth and sends the child to wash his hands with soap . .. and calls the next child for the same procedure.

    Flamingo

    Fish

    Dragon

    Crafts for girls.

    Separately, I want to lay out the topics of hand drawings - topics that GIRLS will like ... and then those that will interest BOYS.

    A good topic for girls is drawing a bunny. Delicate white craft on a background of black cardboard.

    IMPORTANT NOTE !!! .If you plan to leave an ink print on glossy cardboard, you will not succeed. The gouache will curl into droplets without sticking to smooth, slippery cardboard. TO AVOID THIS, you can use one trick - add a little liquid soap to gouache - and then the print will calmly fall on glossy cardboard.

    Hand drawing can be embellished and decorated with a variety of materials - feathers, colored paper appliqué, beads, rhinestones.

    You can draw a delicate pink flamingo. Paint the palm in a bright pink color, make a juicy palm print on a piece of paper. And immediately, until the paint has dried, sprinkle the wet surface with sparkles. The craft is perfect for kids.

    The girls will also love painting the MAGIC UNICORN PONY with their hands. A beautiful delicate unicorn craft can be decorated with sparkles and rhinestones. To fix the sparkles, use PVA glue - draw the elements of the mane and tail with glue and immediately, until the glue has dried, sprinkle everything with sparkles. We wait a minute and shake off the extra glitter on the newspaper.

    Such an interesting girlfriend frog will turn out if you cover your palm with thick green paint. We are waiting for everything to dry, add the outlines of the legs with a black marker. We finish the fly. Even before the imprint on a paper blue background, you need to stick a green oval of a water lily sheet - and then make an imprint over this sheet. Frog is a theme that everyone likes.

    Girls will also like drawings of flowers from palms. If a bright palm is supplemented with a long green stalk and leaves, we will get a flower that has blossomed petals. It remains to place the sun, butterflies and bees nearby. Bees are fingerprints.

    And here is the hand drawing of a flowering cactus in a pot. An excellent idea for drawing in kindergarten is the middle and older group. A simple child-friendly theme for non-traditional drawing.

    Here is an idea for a butterfly craft. It can be a simple print directly onto paper. Or you can separately prepare handprints, dry them and cut them out as in the master class below. The craft is also suitable for kids.

    Girls also like angels. Craft an angel for Christmas can please a grandmother or mother. Beautiful angels in the technique of drawing with palms.

    And now let's see what handicrafts boys can do with their hands in kindergarten and at school with their own hands.

    Here's an idea for a fire-breathing dragon. Here we paint over the gaps between the fingers with yellow paint. Add a long tail and neck of the dragon.

    For younger children, this craft for toddlers is suitable - in the form of a large dinosaur. Here, an adult makes a silhouette application in advance, and the child only leaves a few handprints on the back of the beast. Easy to understand theme for kids.

    Older children can paint the body and tail of the dragon themselves.

    Pirates and their ships will also please boys. Offer such an interesting weekend craft to your home robber - he will be delighted.

    Try to come up with prints of those characters whose adventures you read before bed. These can be good kings, wild Indians, ninja turtles, alien robots, etc.

    The boys like to draw scary spiders - from two palms you will get an excellent spider. Glue the eyes on white paper.

    Cats and dogs.

    Cute cats can also be drawn with the palm of your hand. We finish the tail and head with ears. It will look great if the head is cut out of a piece of fur or velvet paper - you get a great craft for the older group of kindergarten. And for kids, it will be pleasant - stroking the kitten's delicate fur coat is a great pleasure for small children.

    Here is a beautiful spotted dog. We make a white hand drawing and add the outlines of the head and then with our fingers we make dots from black gouache.

    For a child of 3-4 years old, such an craft in the form of a dog is suitable. We make a palm print with white gouache on black paper. Cut out. Add an oval white head, black ears, nose and eyes. A good topic for a summary of the drawing lesson in the Pets themed week

    And if you make a dog print with a protruding little finger and thumb, you get such a cute dog portrait. Dogs are a popular children's theme.

    Fun zoo.

    Here's a fun way to create animal prints using the hand painting technique for kids. If the palm is placed on paper SIDELY - spread fingers to the left or right - then we get a blank for an animal that clings to a tree trunk or creepers in the jungle. And of course these animals will be MONKEY or BEAR KOALA.

    And if slightly spread fingers of the palm are lowered down, then we will get four legs for animals with four paws or hooves. In this technique, crafts-drawings BEAR, GIRAFFE are made. We make the spots of the giraffe with our fingers. These animals are often used in kindergarten as non-traditional drawing.

    And here are beautiful crafts with the addition of colored paper - BULL and RACCOON. Simple palm drawing for the older group of kindergarten, for children 5 - 7 years old.

    You can make beautiful pictures in the form of animals and their cubs from two hands of MOTHER'S and CHILDREN'S. Horse with foal. Elephant with baby elephant. Beautiful family crafts with their own hands from the palms.

    For the little ones, the Hedgehog craft is suitable, where you just need to print palms in a chaotic manner. It will turn out well if each finger is smeared with a DIFFERENT shade of brown - so we get not a common porridge-mass, but needle-shaped outlines of different colors. An excellent craft for classes in kindergarten - here you can give the children the outlines of a hedgehog, paints, a brush and let them get their hands dirty themselves - put them with their fingers up on the hedgehog, get dirty again and apply again. Delight and pant for an hour at least.

  • Crafts and drawings from handprints: we create with the hands of our kids

    The content of the article

  • 8 method useful?
  • What is the essence of drawing technique?
  • Prints
  • Contours
  • 3D crafts
  • With the advent of a child in the family, parents often begin to look for newfangled toys, aids for development. And meanwhile, it is not always necessary to spend a lot of money on this. Often, the most common means at hand give excellent results. For example, handicrafts and drawings from the palms can become a fascinating pastime for kids.

    What is the use of the method?

    The first thing to understand is that such classes do not require large material costs. An album, paints, colored cardboard, scissors and children's fingers - that's all you need for this. Moreover, you can start classes from about 3 years.

    The second advantage is that prints or stencils cut out along the contours of the little ones' palms will become a wonderful memory of how the child was at a particular age, what size his hands were.

    Thirdly, original activities allow the child to raise his self-esteem: he, being so small, is able to do things that he and his family can be proud of.

    Give your child the opportunity to make a gift to loved ones (it can be both drawings and three-dimensional objects).

    We should also not forget about the practical benefits directly for the development of kids are handicrafts made from literally nothing. They help to improve:

    • fine motor skills;
    • artistic skills;
    • spatial thinking;
    • coordination;
    • fantasy;
    • creativity.

    All this certainly contributes to the intellectual development of the child.

    With the help of a simple technique, you can organize creative activities even at home, even in kindergarten, which modern educators are well aware of. With the palms of kids, you can both draw, making prints, and create “patterns” for voluminous crafts.

    What is the essence of drawing technique?

    There are two such technicians, and they are extremely simple.

    Prints

    The child's hands are covered with paint (ordinary gouache will do) and imprinted by applying them to a sheet of paper. Drawings are obtained both from one print (a figure of a chicken or a goose, where the fingers play the role of plumage; the body of a fish with fins, an animal with legs and a tail; the crown of a tree), and from several. They may already be multi-colored. This option is more complicated, so make samples of such drawings first with your own hands so that it is clear for children.

    For example, a few prints will help to draw:

    • sun;
    • swans with open wings;
    • hedgehog with needles;
    • Christmas tree;
    • chamomile;
    • butterfly, etc.

    With the help of one palm, you can create a variety of pictures. Fingers can be imprinted open or folded together, pressing only 4 fingers or all 5, turning them in different directions.

    Outlines

    The drawing does not have to be in the form of prints. You can create unusual images with the help of a palm outlined. For example, if you circle the hands of all family members on one sheet of paper, you get an original composition.

    3D crafts

    Another handwork technique is to create 3D applications. To do this, the circled contours of the child's hand are cut out of colored or white paper, and then assembled or arranged in the desired order. These can be, for example, bird wings, deer antlers, goldfish fins, hedgehog quills…

    Creative activities become especially relevant with the advent of winter, because the weather is not always conducive to walks, and the freed time needs to be occupied with something useful. Why not use this technique? It allows you to easily and simply make fun holiday crafts for the New Year. Bright, original applications on the wall, figurines, even Christmas decorations. It can be a winter picture with bullfinches or a snowman, a Christmas tree itself, an unusual postcard in the form of opening palms with a surprise pattern inside ...

    The older the child, the more complex appliqué they can create.
