Learning to read worksheets free

20+ FREE Learning Packs for Preschool and Kindergarten

I am over the moon excited to gather all of my learning packs for preschool and kindergarten into ONE SPOT, making them easy to find and access when you need them!

Looking for more free resources for teaching preschool? Here are ALL our Preschool Printables!

Preschool & Kindergarten Learning Activities

My goal in creating these packs is three-fold: 1- developmentally appropriate, 2- hands-on, and 3- FUN. The activities you will find in each pack are the same kinds of activities from Reading the Alphabet, a free 31-week reading curriculum for emergent readers.

In each pack, you’ll find:
  • emergent readers (many packs have more than one) with predictable text and supporting images
  • syllable counting and identification within words
  • rhyming activities
  • beginning letter sound matching
  • print awareness concepts
  • tracing activities
  • lacing cards (great for fine motor)
  • cutting and scissor practice
  • making patterns
  • number identification (for 1-20)
  • counting (by 1’s, 2’s, 5’s, and 10’s)
  • beginning addition mats (with manipulatives)
  • a craft related to the topic
  • some packs include concept sorts for science or social studies objectives, too!
  • recommended read aloud texts to accompany each pack

The important thing to note about these packs is that many of the activities are tiered, meaning if you are teaching the same child two years in a row, the activities can grow with him/her from one year to the next!

The activities are not meant to be static pages, but pages that kids can cut out, glue, read, stamp, cover up, or manipulate in some way. Think HANDS-ON.

FREE BOB Books Printables

Do you teach a young reader with the BOB Books? Then you’ve just struck gold! This post is FILLED with tons of FREE BOB Books printables for sets 1-5 and beyond…

What are BOB Books?

BOB Books were created by Bobby Lynn Maslen and John Maslen. While working in a preschool, Bobby began making the books for her preschoolers to learn how to read. John Maslen, an amazing water-color painter, drew the pictures. They were first published in 1976 and have now become VERY popular among beginning readers. There are even apps for the BOB Books!

BOB Books are used by many to teach reading, even to the young child. Starting with the earliest set, phonics features and sight words are introduced slowly to make it easy for your child to pick up the book and read.

Worksheets - an alternative to the reader's diary | Elementary school

Author: Krivonogova Natalya Nikolaevna

Organization: Governor's Engineering Lyceum №102

Settlement: Ulyanovsk

Annotation . The article considers worksheets as an alternative to the reader's diary.

Keywords: reader's diary, worksheets, conscious reading

Modern life is now filled with various interesting things, from the point of view of children, this is a tablet, cell phone, computer, game consoles. But there is absolutely no place for a book in the life of children. Children from kindergarten easily use modern gadgets, spending all their free time playing games. With the advent of school, interest in the book is minimal. A textbook on literary reading is enough for them. To read any work that is not given in the lesson, parents have to force their children to read. Therefore, keeping a reader's diary in elementary school is mandatory.

Reader's diary refers to a notebook or notepad with a special structure or worksheets created by the teacher.

I would like to dwell on the worksheets in more detail, since the reader's diary in the form of a notebook or notepad is familiar to us.

A worksheet is a worksheet specially designed by the teacher with tasks to be completed during the course of explaining the material or after studying the topic.

The worksheet allows you to organize productive independent work of students with educational material in the lesson, helps to activate students at any stage of the lesson, is a wonderful tool for obtaining feedback.

Most often create worksheets using texts, pictures, tables.

The main purpose of the worksheets is not to burden the child and parents with additional work, but to teach them to draw conclusions and develop the culture of the reader. Therefore, the worksheet requirements come from this purpose. Therefore, the requirements for registration are minimal. When maintaining worksheets, immediately after reading the work, write down your conclusions. Therefore, to make it interesting and easy for the student to work with the sheets, they can be compiled in the form of a quiz, tables, drawings. The meaning of the quiz questions is that the student can remember what the plot of the work is, interesting moments from the life of the hero, "imperceptible" details about which the author speaks. For a child, such worksheets can be a kind of cheat sheet.

Also, with the help of worksheets, you can get rid of difficulties in completing tasks that are proposed in the All-Russian test papers: What did the author want to say to the reader? Identify and write down the main idea of the text. Ask a question on the text that will help determine how accurately your classmates understood its content. Write down your question. Think and write in what life situation it would be appropriate to use the expression ... In order for a student to perform similar tasks, it is necessary to train. Worksheets can help with this. It is necessary to compose questions in the worksheets that would contribute to the development of skills to determine the main idea of the work (not just the question "what is the work about?"), the main content of the text, etc.

Thus, keeping worksheets during the summer holidays is a very useful and interesting activity that has a positive effect on the development of the child. Worksheets contribute to the development of speech, the ability to work with text, increase the pace of reading, improve the quality of reading, and develop creative abilities in children of primary school age.
