Getting the Animal Alphabet O is for Owl Craft Ready

Choose whether you’d like your students to have the tracing version of the craft (includes dotted letters to trace “O o is for Owl” at the bottom of the page), or the non-tracing version. Print out enough letters for each student. Also be sure to print off enough copies of the craft pieces for each student (plus a couple extras for mistakes).

Doing the Animal Alphabet O is for Owl Craft

I told my kids we were going to be doing an “O is for Owl” craft. We talked about what color owls might be and they chose to color their owls brown.

After coloring, my kids traced the “O o is for Owl” text below the letter. This is optional and there are also sheets which do not include the tracing text.

After they finished coloring and tracing, I passed out the paper with the craft pieces on it. My kids colored each piece and, using child-safe scissors, carefully cut each piece out of the sheet.

Using the example as a guide, they then glued the craft pieces (two eyes, two wings, a face and a beak) onto the letter O.

I think their owls came out just perfect! We will be saving them to bind into an Animal Alphabet Book at the end of the series!

With our previous alphabet book craft taking us to the depths of the ocean, it only seemed fitting that this one take us high into the sky.  Or, as the little man says, way above the treetops.

Of course when you try to think of things that can fly that also start with the letter O, you’re more than likely going to come up with an owl.

And an adorable one at that!

Pin

This was one of the few crafts for our alphabet book that we didn’t really have much of a plan for going in.

We knew what we wanted to make with our lowercase letter O and looked at a few pictures of owls to get a basic idea.  From there, we decided to wing it :)

Pin

To make a letter O owl like ours, you’ll need:

  • A sheet of white card stock
  • Construction paper (we wound up going with dark brown, light brown, yellow, orange, and black)
  • Scissors
  • Glue

Of course, if you decide to alter your owl at all, change up your materials accordingly.

Pin

First things first, cut out your pieces.

We cut our lowercase letter O from our light brown construction paper and the head, the large triangle, from the dark brown.  The orange turned into our owl’s feet and beak.

Pin

From the yellow and black, we cut two different sizes of circles for the eyes.

Finally, although not included in the picture, we cut a few leaf like shapes from our dark brown paper to use as wings.  Again, we were kind of making this one up as we went along.

Pin

To assemble your feathered friend, start by gluing your lowercase letter O into the center of your card stock.

Pin

Add some feet right onto the bottom of your letter.

Pin

Next, you’ll want to construct your owl’s head.

We started by gluing the dark brown triangle right onto the top of our letter O and added the smaller orange triangle right on to the bottom of that for the beak.

Pin

Then, grab the different colors of circles that you cut out and add those to the sides of your triangles to make some eyes.

Pin

Finally, if you decided to use them, add the wings to each side of your letter O and glue it all down.

Pin

When you’re all done, you’ve got yourself another adorable page to add to your alphabet book and a little handwriting practice as well if you grab the printable letter O page from the bundle of interactive alphabet pages!

(OWL)
Children complete the task, identify the first sound in the title of each picture. On a magnetic board, a word is laid out from the letters of the magnetic alphabet.

Speech therapist: - How did you guess that this word is "owl"?

What are the first sounds heard in the names of pictures? (Answers of children).

That's right, by merging the first sounds of the pictures, we got the word
"owl". This letter came from our familiar Aunt - Owl. What she
wants to talk about in this letter, you will find out if you complete a few more
jobs. To do this, you need to be very careful to cope with
all the difficulties that you will encounter. You are ready? (Answers of children).

First, let's see what mood you are ready to complete
all tasks. And multi-colored petals will help us in this. Choose
petal in the color that suits your mood. By compiling
flower, we can understand our mood.

"Color mood".

Color language:

Yellow, orange - cheerful, playful, joyful mood, x
Accompanies creativity.

Red - good, cheerful mood.

Green - laziness and indifference.

Blue - calmness.

Violet = sadness, anxiety.

Black - grief, sadness.

The speech therapist concludes that everyone has a very different mood. Covers
a flower with a napkin, addresses the children:

Speech therapist: in order to cheer each other up, help and0027 support, you need to be friendly and helpful. With the help of finger gymnastics, let's show how we can make friends finger gymnastics "Friendship":

Girls and boys are friends in our group, at

We will make friends with little fingers.

One, two, three, four, five - start counting again.
One, two, three, four, five - we finished counting.
(The fingers of both hands are rhythmically joined into a lock several times. Then
the fingers alternately touch each other, starting with the thumb, then with
little finger.)

"Syllabic pattern"

Speech therapist: And now go to the tables and take the places where the syllabic pattern matches your name. Think, mentally pronounce your name in syllables, determine the number of syllables and the stressed syllable.

Children do the task.

The speech therapist asks some children why they
took certain places and asks to justify their answer.

Speech therapist: Well done, you coped with the task, and now the next one. How are you
you know, an owl is a wise bird. She teaches wisdom and literacy to others. And how do you
understand the proverb: “Learning to learn is always useful”?
(Answers from children).

Speech therapist: What kind of person can be called literate?

Speech therapist: Why do you need to be literate?
(Answers from children).

Speech therapist: After completing the following task, you will understand what the owl wants to give us in his video letter.

"Broken word"

(Children are given tables with letters, under each letter there is a number indicating the serial number of the letter. Children, according to the number, lay out the word "lesson" from the letters of the split alphabet). nine0003

What word did you get, read it? (Lesson).

Let's check if this is correct. (Invites one of the children to complete this task
on the board).

Indeed, this is the word "lesson". Before the lesson of Auntie - Owl
let's have a little rest.

“Wind” physical minute:
The wind is blowing in our face, (Swinging with hands)
The tree is swaying, (Swinging up with hands)

The wind is getting quieter, quieter, (Squats)
The tree is getting higher, higher. (straighten up)

Children sit down. The speech therapist offers to show with his voice how the
wind howls. (V-v-v-v)

What is the sound of the wind? (B)

Speech therapist: what can be said about the sound "B"

Children: consonant, voiced, firm.

Speech therapist: how did you guess that he is a consonant

Children: when pronouncing a sound, lips and teeth prevent air from escaping

Speech therapist: What letter represents the sound "B"

Children: the letter B

speech therapist shows a picture of the letter "B" nine0003

Speech therapist: what other sound does the letter B give us?

Speech therapist: let's say the sound "В*"

Speech therapist: what is common between the sounds "В" and "В*"

Children: both sounds are consonant and voiced

Speech therapist: what is the difference between the sounds "В" and "В*" "

Children: the sound "B *" is soft, the sound "B" is hard

Speech therapist: Well, now, all attention to the screen. nine0003

The speech therapist turns on the video "Lessons of Aunt Owl". Acquaintance
with the letter "B". On the fragment where the letter “B” is depicted, speech therapist
stops the frame and invites the children to dream up what the letter “B”
looks like. Reading a poem by V. Stepanov:

Like the letter "B", Alena

Holds the phone.

After viewing, the speech therapist suggests doing exercises for the eyes:

Look up and down (three times).

Look side to side (three times). nine0003

Look in a circle (draw a circle with your eyes).
Speech therapist: What letter did Auntie Owl introduce you to?

Remember the words with the sound "B" at the beginning of the word

Remember the words with the sound "B" in the middle of the word

Remember the words with the sound "B" at the end of the word

Remember the words with the sound "B*" at the beginning of the word

Remember the words with the sound "B*" in the middle of the word

Remember the words with the sound "B*" at the end of the word

Children list the words; nine0003

Speech therapist: Guys, have you looked at how the letter
"B" and "B *" is indicated on the letter. This is the letter "B". And now, to better remember, try to draw it with sand.

“Sandless letter”

First select a card with the image of the letter “B” on which you will perform the task. The color of the card must correspond to your mood now. You have PVA glue, adhesive and sand jar on the tables. You need smear the letter on the card with glue along the contour, take some sand and pour it on the smeared surface. After waiting a bit, take the card and carefully turn it over, shaking off the unglued sand. Children perform the task to the song "What they teach at school."
Speech therapist: - You got wonderful letters, beautiful. Tell me, did you like the lesson and what did you remember about it? What new did you learn in class? What task did you find the most difficult? What is the most interesting? Listens to the children's answers.

Finally, let's see if your mood has changed.
Put the drawn letters next to the petal you chose at the beginning of the
session.

Speech therapist compares the color of the card with the drawn letter with the initially chosen color of the petal, summarizes, thanks the children for the lesson. nine0003
