Review
[WC 462]
The construction site trucks wake up to a new day and a new project. The new building will be the biggest they have ever constructed. The blueprint alone is huge. The team realizes they will need help, prompting Cement Mixer to blast its horn for help. Soon, five more construction vehicles are rolling into the site. Skid Breaker, though smaller than the rest, is a jackhammer on wheels. Flatbed Truck can haul an amazing fifty tons of steel. Front-End Loader works with Dump Truck to clear the land of unwanted dirt and rocks. Back Hoe grabs pipes, placing them into freshly dug trenches, and Pumper stretches high into the sky, aiming cement onto the top floors of the new building.

Now, there are ten construction vehicles working together, forming a Mighty, Mighty Supercrew!
Anyone who loves Goodnight, Goodnight Construction Site will love its sequel, Mighty, Mighty Construction Site. Kids will love this huge construction crew Rinker calls a “Supercrew.” Her “playful rhyming text” flows nicely, making it a joy to read—and one book parents will not mind reading multiple times in a row.
Lichtenheld’s “vibrant illustrations” will dazzle readers young and old. These wonderful full spread images, created with Neocolor wax oil pastels on Mi-Teintes paper, are amazing! Not satisfied, Lichtenheld then sent the images off to Kristen Cella for digital “fine-tuning. ” All I understand about the last two sentences is this: the final images are utterly amazing! (Yes, it bears repeating.) Open up to any spread and you can feel the dirt and see it sticking to the various trucks. Lichtenheld and Cella created a visually stunning and realistic landscape. Young children who play with trucks in a sandbox (or the dirt circle left in the ground once an above-ground pool is removed), will image their play areas to be these construction sites.

Oscar Wilde once said, “Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery that mediocrity can pay to greatness.” There are several other picture books flattering the night out of Sherri Duskey Rinker and Tom Lichtenheld by using the night-night-construction-sites (and trucks) theme. When you are at the top of your field—Mighty, Mighty Construction Site is a New York Times Notable Children’s Book—imitation will happen. For the youngest readers, Rinker and Lichtenheld released a set of board books in 2016. Steam Train, Dream Train Colors and Steam Train, Dream Train 1-2-3 (reviewed here).
What a Valentine’s Treat for little kids who fell in love with Goodnight, Goodnight Construction Site. These kids, and their parents, have been waiting for a sequel from this dynamic-duo. Well, no one will be disappointed! With its Valentine’s Day release, instead of stars, I give this adorable sequel 5 swelled hearts, one for each pair of construction trucks in Mighty, Mighty, Construction Site!

Read Legendary Lunar Sculptor Book 37 (LP) - Heesung Nam - Page 38

The number of opponents didn't affect anything. The combat power of the Imperial corps was so huge that they didn’t care what kind of army the inhabitants of the Arpen Kingdom could gather against them. Even those two million were enough to completely conquer the entire world of Royal Road.

However, as soon as they capture the continent, they cannot avoid many riots. Even now, there were lone outbreaks of rebellion across the Empire.

So they wanted to show their power to everyone.

“Look! The mighty power of the Haven Empire!”

They will trample the northern Arpen Kingdom. And then, after a few months, having recovered from the initial disgust and resigned to the occupation, the players will gradually begin to join the Hermes Guild.

“We will win great victories and destroy the north,” Lefay said to one of his lieutenants.

There was not a shadow of doubt in his voice. The Haven Empire will take care of the north, no matter how much it costs them.

Even though the Hermes Guild once suffered one nasty defeat from Weed, it was still invincible and didn't care about that incident at all.

3 more corps moved through the Nudullan mountains to the Plains of Nadallia. It was the main shock fist that was supposed to destroy the Arpen Kingdom's Earth Palace.

The path through the mountains was chosen to level Vargo Fortress.

The Haven Empire will not leave the northerners the slightest hope, destroying Vargo Fortress and Mora with the help of their main forces.

The remaining 2 corps will have to spread out and pulverize everything that gets in their way, completely clearing the Northern Continent. Even the smallest villages will be ruthlessly destroyed.

Tyrant Weed? They will show everyone what real chaos and devastation is. There will be no trace of the former glory of the north.

Lefay intended to instill fear and horror of the Hermes Guild in the hearts of the players.

SWORD 1 and his disciples sometimes thought about rather simple things.

“I hope that I can fight.”

If they got tired of studying, they either fell dead on the bed and slept off, or they continued to sit with a pain in their head.

The simple paperwork could be very tiring for each of them. Even regular clerical work was too tough for them to handle. But after working on the construction site, they felt even fresher than usual.

SWORD 2 came running with a flyer in his hand.

– Teacher, this is war!

– The day we have been waiting for has arrived.

“We need to participate even no matter what Master-nim says,” SWORD 3 added hastily.

SWORD 1, who stood quietly and looked at the sky, seemed to be ready for war. It was like someone waiting patiently in the rain for the right bus to arrive.

"Still, can I fight properly?"

The students were looking forward to the day when they would have to fight the Haven Empire, so they devoted all their free time to training and preparation. They were also engaged in the completion of their tasks for the Master. During training, they received many additional characteristics and skills. So now they are focusing on raising their levels by hunting strong monsters.

SWORD 2 was very worried about the upcoming battle, but in his position it could not be otherwise.

The instructors and students were far from weak, but only god knew if they could hold their own against the overwhelming forces of the Haven Empire.

- It's hard... It's hard to know for sure. We've seen them fight on TV, so we have an idea of how skilled they are. If we manage to avoid magic, then we will fight them in close combat. To face such a strong army will be a good experience for us.

- Yes. And even if we are defeated in the end,” the 2nd SWORD nodded his head.

Inevitable fate. They couldn't change the fact that there were few of them and many enemies.

Of course, that didn't mean at all that SWORD 1 and his disciples were completely useless. It would be impossible to find a group like them in the entire Versailles Continent. They were at least level 400 and advanced level 9 in swordsmanship. Their team was truly unique.

Then the 3rd SWORD asked his question:

– So what should the north do?

- They just need to hold out until the youngest returns.

– Junior will return? asked the 5th SWORD.

Haven Empire Invasion! No matter how much they loved to fight, this war was an extremely serious matter. And even if they manage to kill several hundred strong opponents, only Weed will be able to withstand the colossal might of the Hermes Guild invaders.

- Not long ago, I asked Weed if he could defeat the Haven Empire. Do you know what he answered?

– What can?

– That he cannot overcome them. Stopping the strongest army on the continent is an almost impossible task. And no matter how vigilant we will be, there will still not be enough time to prepare.

– Then… Will everything be destroyed?

- Perhaps in the heat of battle - yes. But the Empire won't get the north so easily.

SWORD 1 laughed as if he heard something funny:

- We will not be able to withstand the onslaught of enemies. But we don't need to kill them. Weed will tear apart the Haven Empire by himself.

- What do you mean?

– I mean exactly what I said.

The instructors' hearts began to beat three times faster from the confidence with which their teacher said those words.

Tearing apart the Haven Empire!

This phrase alone was enough to make them terribly excited.

Weed may die in battle, but his death will have a special meaning in their eyes. It will only warm up their fighting spirit.

Of course, Weed said something similar, but completely different from what SWORD 1 told his students.

“Oh, those guys are really annoying. They are like chewing gum stuck to my shoe. Such a problem cannot be prevented in advance. But when I see her, I’ll tear her off piece by piece myself”

humanity! This feat embodies the genius of the Soviet man, the mighty strength of the socialist system. The peoples of all continents are raptured !

Article published April 13, 1961 .

April 12, 1961 the world's first spacecraft "Vostok" with a man on board, after flying around the globe, safely returned to the sacred land of our Motherland. The first person to penetrate into space is a citizen of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, Yuri Alekseevich Gagarin.

EUROPE

LONDON, 12 April. (Inc. Corr. "Pravda"). The news that the first spacecraft with a man on board took off into space and safely returned to Earth literally shocked England.

The first editions of the London evening papers were already out around 11 am. Across the front page of the Evening News newspaper, a huge headline: “Russia wins the competition ... And the Vostok spacecraft rockets Major Yuri Gagarin into history. Man in space! The newspaper calls the feat of Soviet science the greatest turning point in history. And this, the newspaper emphasizes, is not the end, but only the beginning of such cases. “Today,” writes the newspaper, “we stand on the threshold of events unprecedented in the history of human activity.”

British scientists, public figures, and ordinary workers express their admiration for the world-historical achievements of Soviet science, and ask them to convey congratulations to Soviet scientists on their new brilliant victory in space exploration. “It's amazing,” MP Koni Zilliacus told your correspondent. - Just think that this was done by a country that a few decades ago was one of the backward countries in technical and economic terms. This is the triumph of the Soviet Union, the triumph of socialism, the tremendous success of all progressive mankind.

Doctor of Physical Sciences from the University of Manchester, working in the field of astronomy, King told us: This is truly the most remarkable achievement. We send our colleagues in the Soviet Union warm congratulations on the successful completion of the enormous work of carrying out this flight.

Warmest congratulations on the occasion of this remarkable achievement, according to the telegram of the famous English writer and scientist Charles Snow and his wife, the writer Pamela Snow. A well-known Labor figure, member of parliament Harold Davis asks to convey congratulations to Nikita Sergeevich Khrushchev.

Visible superiority of socialism

WARSAW, April 12. (Inc. Corr. "Pravda"). “Soviet man in space. Gagarin returned safely to Earth. Here it is, the visible superiority of socialism!” - such words are heard today everywhere in Warsaw, everywhere in Poland. Strangers congratulate each other. The Polish people rejoice.

The radio repeatedly interrupted its broadcasts to report another TASS communiqué. The venerable professors interrupted their lectures, told the students this exciting news, and commented on it. Central newspapers issued special editions within a few hours after the landing of the Vostok satellite.

“The first Soviet man in space. The public of Poland congratulates,” such a headline ran across the entire page in the Tribuna Ludu newspaper. “Today, the Soviet astronaut, Major Gagarin, flew into outer space and returned to Earth,” Zhytse Warsaw reports.

We share your joy

PARIS, 12 April. (Inc. Corr. "Pravda"). France held its breath. All radio stations in the country interrupted their transmissions. “Listen to the greatest message of our century! - the announcer's voice trembles with excitement: - The Soviet man is already in space.

During these morning hours we managed to see several prominent French scientists. Professor Joseph Pere, Dean of the Faculty of Natural Sciences at the University of Paris, says: “I just learned about the event. We were waiting for it. But nevertheless, the thought that this date, April 12, has now appeared in world science, is amazing. I am very happy to welcome Soviet scientists , the first man in space, all your people. I heard on the radio what joy reigns in your country. We understand and share it."

We found Professor Maurice Roy, Director of the French National Aeronautical Research Service, in his laboratory.

"Two days ago," he says, "I was at a scientific conference in Florence and listened to a report by Soviet scientists in which they calmly announced that the 1961 programs provided for manned space flight. And now, 48 hours later, I find out that this program has already been completed. Fantastic! A science that can plan such feats gives us an idea of what humans are capable of. The first feeling of all scientists is admiration. First of all, I admire the very first Soviet astronaut, whose voice we could hear on the radio thanks to the amazing merits of the communications equipment on board the spacecraft.

The greatness of technology, the courage of people

BONN, 12 April. (Inc. Corr. "Pravda"). The attention of the population of West Germany is entirely riveted to the greatest feat of the Soviet people, who have opened a new page in the history of mankind.

“With this flight, Soviet science and technology achieved a success of exceptional importance,” says the special edition of the Westfelische Rundschau newspaper.

Nobel Prize winner, honorary member of the USSR Academy of Sciences Professor of Physics Max Born said: “I am delighted with this achievement! I admire the achievement of technology, but above all the courage of the person who made this flight.

Professor Hermann Oberth, who is called "the father of German rocketry," said:

— Yes, I have already heard that the pilot-cosmonaut returned to Earth healthy and unharmed. Congratulations and good luck to your Russian colleagues. I am very glad that my predictions regarding the possibility of manned space flights have come true. I made such a prediction in 1923.

— But then you didn't assume that the first cosmonaut would be a Russian?

"No," said Oberth. — I thought it would be a German.

— And when did you become convinced that it would be a Soviet person?

- October 4, 1957, when the Soviet Union successfully launched the first Earth satellite into orbit. Then it became clear that our science and technology would not overcome the advantage achieved by the Russians. Today it should be said that the Soviet Union amazed the world with the greatest achievement in terms of science and engineering!

Messengers applauding 53 countries

BANDUNG, 12 April. (by telegraph). A session of the Council of Solidarity of the Peoples of Asia and Africa was taking place in an Indonesian city when a Soviet satellite was flying over these continents. It may have been flying over the Congo when we, the representatives of fifty-three countries, were discussing the resolution on the struggle of the Congolese people.

It is difficult to convey the admiration that caused the news of this flight. The work of the meeting was interrupted. All the participants of the session greeted the victory of the country of the builders of communism with a standing ovation. It is even more difficult to convey the pride that we, the Soviet delegates, felt for our Motherland, when dozens of people hurried to shake hands with us.

Flying over the planet, the first cosmonaut seemed to say hello to the peoples of the continents fighting for freedom and independence. That is why the representative of Cameroon, Rafana Osendi, said: "Peoples have raised man into space, and colonialism will be lowered into the grave." // Mirzo Tursun-Zade .

China rejoices

BEIJING. April 12th. (Inc. Corr. "Pravda"). The teletypewriter strings lines of news from everywhere into the press room. Here, journalists from many countries are working on reports on the course of the World Table Tennis Championship. And suddenly the sound of cars stops. Like an electric spark, every word printed on a teletype burns the consciousness: “The world's first satellite ship with a person on board was launched on April 12 in the Soviet Union. The first astronaut is a citizen of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, pilot Major Yuri Alekseevich Gagarin ... "

A second or two passes, and already this news spreads like lightning through the vast stadium, causing people to feel a sense of joyful amazement. Having learned that Soviet correspondents are next to them, many spectators and athletes free from competitions ask to convey warm greetings to the Soviet people, to congratulate them on their brilliant victory, which opened a new era in the conquest of space.

“I am a metallurgist at the Shijingshan Combine,” one of the spectators, Li Rong-hui, addresses us. - The successful flight of a man into space is a great victory for Soviet scientists, engineers, workers, a victory for all the peoples of the socialist countries.

Beijing's Beijing evening paper "Beijing Wanbao" came out with a large red ink print: "The Soviet Union launched a spaceship with a man." Two hours before its release, on one of the busiest streets of the capital, Wangfujing, two large panels of paper appeared next to the editorial office of the People's Daily newspaper. On them are handwritten kanji: "People's Daily Special." The day of manned space flight has arrived. A Soviet spaceship with a man on board took off into the sky.

Drums are heard. A manifestation of students from the Beijing Institute of Fine Arts spontaneously arises. They are carrying banners, holding up a large banner depicting a Soviet spacecraft with a man on board. On banners - words of warm greetings to the Soviet people. Passers-by join the boys and girls.

Hello first astronaut!

VIJAYAWADA, April 12th. (Inc. Corr. "Pravda"). It was noon. The sun burned down unbearably. Life came to a standstill in Vijayawada. And suddenly the streets of the city were filled with excited people. India learned about the flight of a Soviet man into space.

Ajoy Ghosh spoke on behalf of the congress delegates. He stressed that the first manned flight into space is clear evidence of what the people can achieve under conditions of socialism.

The audience responded with thunderous applause.

AMERICA

Awesome!

April 12th. (TASS). Havana was awakened early in the morning by the cries of paperboys: Read, read, man was in space, returned unharmed to Earth!

The top half of the newspapers "Revolution", "Noticias de Hoy", "Mundo" are occupied by huge headlines for reports from Moscow about the first manned flight into space. “The Soviet Union sent a man into a vacuum; he returned to Earth”, “Russian in space!”, “Cosmonaut returned to Earth. The great feat of the Soviet Union shocked the world.”

“Awesome! Amazing news! This is a great feat!” - these were the first words of the General Secretary of the People's Socialist Party of Cuba, Blas Roca, spoken to a TASS correspondent by telephone.

— This means, Blas Roca said, that the Soviet Union has completed the great task of building spaceships for man's travel into the airless space. Thanks to the Soviet Union, mankind entered the world of outer space: man touched the sky. This news is breathtaking, the heart is overflowing with joy.

From the bottom of our hearts, with great enthusiasm, we salute those who accomplished this truly heroic feat. I convey my warmest congratulations to the Soviet people.

Millions excited

NEW YORK, April 12th. (TASS). Prominent public figure and financier, laureate of the international Lenin Prize "For Strengthening Peace Among Nations" Cyrus Eaton heartily congratulated the Soviet people on the historic flight of the Soviet cosmonaut.

“Millions of American friends of the Soviet Union,” he told a TASS correspondent by telephone, “are deeply moved by the news of this great achievement. Soviet scientists and technicians in industry have reached the climax of their colossal and impressive successes in the field of science and industry.

Eaton recalled that he had met with Soviet scientists for many years and that he had "the deepest respect for their genius and interest in the well-being of all mankind. "

"I," declared Eaton, "send my warmest congratulations and best wishes for the further progress of Soviet science and industry, which, I am sure, will make an enormous contribution to the benefit of mankind."

"If we succeed in persuading the leaders of all countries to join Chairman Khrushchev in reaching an agreement on complete disarmament and lasting peace," Cyrus Eaton emphasized, "then we will ensure that the great family of nations will follow the path of prosperity and happiness."

We just took our breath away

NEW YORK. April 12th. (TASS). The well-known astronomer Hynek, in an interview with a TASS correspondent, said: “All of us related to the implementation of the program of artificial Earth satellites, congratulations. We just took our breath away. We are all very happy that the flight was successful. This is a real step forward, a real step into the future.”

Eminent scientist president of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Stratton said: "I believe that this event opens a new era." This is a triumph of technology, an outstanding achievement that the Soviet Union can rightly be proud of.

The famous American physicist Professor Van Allen, who discovered the so-called "Van Allen Belt", called the space flight of a Soviet cosmonaut "a remarkable achievement."

Applications at Ottawa Airport

OTTAWA. April 12th. (TASS). British Prime Minister Harold Macmillan said today at the Ottawa airport before flying home that the flight of a Soviet man in outer space is "a very remarkable achievement."

"This is an astonishing, but not unexpected, achievement, given the advances in space research made by Russia, Britain, the United States and other countries of the world," said Canadian Prime Minister Diefenbaker, who was seeing Macmillan off.

The President of the United States congratulates...

NEW YORK, April 12. (TASS). US President Kennedy congratulated Soviet scientists and engineers on their outstanding achievement - the launch of a spacecraft with a man on board and its safe return to Earth.

“The achievement of the USSR, which put a man into orbit and safely returned him to Earth,” declared the US President, “represents an outstanding technological success. We congratulate the Soviet scientists and engineers who made this feat possible.

Exploration of our solar system is a goal that we and all mankind share with the Soviet Union, and this success is an important step towards this goal.

The same task is pursued by our program "Mercury", which provides for the exit of man into space."

…von Braun in his opinion

NEW YORK, April 12th. (TASS). United Press International correspondent reports from Washington.

A space scientist at Cape Canaveral said he was upset by the Russian achievement. Scientists at Cape Canaveral are hard at work on the American project to launch a man into space.

Wernher von Braun, head of the US War Department's Ballistic Ordnance Department, said he thought "the Russians did it to impress the African states." He said the United States is still ahead of Russia in some areas of space research.

Dr. Ralph Lapp, who helped build the 1946 atomic bomb at Bikini Atoll, said in Portland that the Russians could launch not just one, but even two people into space.

"Mankind's Real Triumph"

DELHI, April 12th. (TASS). The Prime Minister of India, Jawaharlal Nehru, made the following statement to a TASS correspondent:

“I think that the successful launch by the Soviet Union of a spacecraft with a man and its return to Earth is an amazing achievement of science and, above all, Soviet scientists. This is a real triumph for mankind.

I would like to express my sincere congratulations to the outstanding scientists who made this possible, and to Major Yuri Alekseevich Gagarin, the first man to enter space and return to Earth. This triumph should be seen as a victory for the cause of peace, and should make us think even more than before about the folly of wars on our little Earth. Let us give up all thoughts of war on the globe and engage in peaceful scientific achievements for the benefit of mankind.

Thomas the Unbeliever of the Associated Press

NEW YORK, April 12 . (TASS). An Associated Press correspondent reports from Moscow: The Soviet Union's report of the first manned space flight is shrouded in the usual communist mystery. Many observers here even doubt that this event actually took place on Wednesday.

They - and there are many of them in the western colony in Moscow - believe that everything was too well rehearsed for it to be really spontaneous, and, in all likelihood, the flight took place on April 7th.

It was on this day that well-informed persons hinted to Western correspondents that they should listen to the radio at 7 am GMT on Wednesday.

These phone calls were heard by many correspondents at about 6:30 GMT, just 23 minutes after Major Yuri Gagarin, according to a subsequent TASS report, took off into space.

A radio message, broadcast at exactly 7 o'clock GMT, said that the young communist was still in orbit.

N.S. Khrushchev’s conversation with the first cosmonaut Yu.A. Gagarin

Comrade N.S. Khrushchev, First Secretary of the CPSU Central Committee and Chairman of the Council of Ministers of the USSR, who is located in the Sochi region, on April 12, with unflagging attention followed the preparation and launch of the Vostok satellite ship, the flight of the world's first cosmonaut, Soviet citizen, pilot communist Yuri Alekseevich Gagarin, pioneer of space exploration.

Shortly after the announcement of the successful completion of the first space flight and landing of Yu.A. Gagarin in a given area, a telephone conversation took place between comrade NS Khrushchev and the first cosmonaut Yu.A. Gagarin. This happened at 13:00 Moscow time. N.S. Khrushchev was informed that Yu.A. Gagarin wanted to talk to him.

— With great pleasure, — said NS Khrushchev, — I'll talk to Comrade Gagarin.

Picking up the phone, Nikita Sergeevich says:

- I'm glad to hear from you, dear Yuri Alekseevich.

Yuri Gagarin: I have just received your welcome telegram in which you congratulate me on the successful completion of the world's first space flight. I sincerely thank you, Nikita Sergeevich, for this congratulation: I am happy to report to you that the first space flight has been successfully completed.

With your feat, you glorified our Motherland, showed courage and heroism in carrying out such a responsible task. By your feat you made yourself an immortal man, because you were the first of the people to penetrate into space. Tell me, Yuri Alekseevich, how did you feel in flight, how did this first space flight proceed?

Yuri Gagarin: I felt good. The flight was very successful. All the equipment of the spacecraft worked accurately. During the flight, I saw the Earth from a great height. Seas, mountains, big cities, rivers, forests were visible.

NS Khrushchev: Can we say that you felt good?

Yuri Gagarin: You are right, Nikita Sergeevich, I felt good in the spaceship, like at home. Once again, I thank you for your heartfelt congratulations and greetings on the successful completion of the flight.

Nikolay Khrushchev: I am glad to hear your voice and greet you. I will be glad to meet you in Moscow. Together with you, together with all our people, we will solemnly celebrate this great feat in space exploration. You are right in saying that let the capitalist countries catch up with our country, which paved the way into space and sent the world's first cosmonaut. We are all proud of this great victory. Anastas Ivanovich Mikoyan is present here, he sends you his heartfelt congratulations and greetings.

Yu.A. Gagarin: Please convey my gratitude to Anastas Ivanovich and best wishes to him!

NS Khrushchev: Tell me, Yuri Alekseevich, do you have a wife, children?

Yu.A.Gagarin: I have a wife, Valentina Ivanovna, and two daughters, Lena and Galya.

NS Khrushchev: Did your wife know that you would fly into space?

Yury A. Gagarin: Yes, I knew, Nikita Sergeevich.

Yuri Gagarin: Thank you, Nikita Sergeevich, I will convey your greetings and will always remember your heartfelt words.

NS Khrushchev: And your parents, mother and father, are alive, where are they now, what are they doing?

YA Gagarin: My father and mother are alive, they live in the Smolensk region.
