Children's center sign | Zarina Ivanter
For the past few months and even years, the sign of my children's club "Classics" has been a source of headache.
First of all, I hung it five years ago without officially registering it. And that's why messengers from the HOA regularly appeared in my club demanding to conclude an agreement with them and pay for renting the wall of the house under a sign. Preferably in an envelope. Or they'll take down my sign to hell.
Twice the board of the HOA fulfilled its threat: its employees cut the wire with wire cutters, removed the sign and left it on the pavement in front of the club. nine0008
Why didn't I register it? I hung it even under Tsar Pea, in a hurry. It was somehow not quite up to the sign. It was about the survival of the club, about how to learn to be some kind of entrepreneur and not go crazy. In addition, we did not want to invest in the design of a sign for the rented premises - it was impossible to exclude that the club would close.
A lot has changed in these five or six years.
It has become an axiom for me that cool design is a very important part of business. nine0008
The design of the entrance group, which was acceptable five years ago, now looks indecent. And one more factor - my husband and I bought the Classics premises.
Here’s what it looks like now: a light box with the word “kids club” on top, a banner with laces listing courses on the side (I made it with laces so that you can easily change the information), stickers with the word “Classics” on the window and our phone number.
To be honest, complete "pornography", for which you still have to pay all sorts of petty bribe-takers. nine0008
And so I started working on the project of a new sign…
Almost immediately I discovered that at the end of 2013 the Moscow Government adopted Decree 902-PP, according to which signs that do not go beyond the first floor and no more than 50 cm in height, must not be registered . So my beloved HOA has been blackmailing me doubly illegally for the last six months.
Good news. It remains to deal with the design.
And I have a difficult relationship with him. I quickly get bored with everything - clothes, colors, hairstyles. I constantly want to change the interior, promotional materials, websites in the clubs. What was liked yesterday is no longer sympathetic today. There are exceptions, but they are rare. I have a difficult task - to make a cool sign that I will like for a long time. nine0003
I tried to contact advertising agencies looking for a sign specialist. They honestly answered me that they would draw a sign for me without any problems, but they didn’t have a specialist who could advise the material, the brightness of the backlight and other important details.
I started by trying to figure out what kind of sign I want.
Step 1. The easiest option would be to use our current logo in its original form on the sign. It was drawn by our favorite designer Sergey Nikitin, who draws all the advertising materials for Ugolok and Las Mamas and all the pictures for our notes. nine0003
I could have made a sign like this a year ago, the logo was ready. But there was something about him that I didn't like. I couldn't figure out what exactly. Naturally, I could not explain this to Sergei, and put this question aside.
Step 2. Over time, I realized that I liked the font in which the word CLASSICS was written, but did not like the strokes around the letters, the font for the words KIDS CLUB and the orange background.
I also wanted to correct the color of the letters. nine0003
Digging through my thoughts, the Internet and the apartment, I found this:
This is the logo of the Irson Kudikova children's center. In it, I liked the colors of the letters and the font of the words FAMILY CLUB.
And also:
This is the book "Professor Nicolas' Experiments". In its design, I also liked the colors, the font, and especially all sorts of background squiggles, clocks, stars, molecules, emoticons, etc. draw me a sign, taking into account my sympathies and the materials found. nine0003
The first option was not very successful - it seems that I did not explain what I wanted very well.
I asked to remove the strokes, change the color of the letters and the spelling of the words KIDS CLUB.
It turned out much better.
Step 3. I liked it. However, I understood that the work was not finished.
I needed someone to tell me if a sign of this size would look good with this background, if it needed a frame, if it needed a stroke, what material to use, what lamps were inside, etc. nine0008
I called companies that make signs, and they asked me what material I want, what kind of base, what kind of film, etc.
It was clear to me that everything was not going quite right. I literally explain in detail what needs to be done. But at the same time, I am not a specialist in signage.
It happens that you come to the hairdresser, and there the novice hairdresser asks you every minute how long the hair should be for me to make the hair behind the ears, above the forehead, on the back of the head, on the crown. I don't know, I'm not a hairdresser. And a high-class stylist will ask for general wishes and offer something interesting himself. nine0098
And among my friends there was a cool architect and designer Taras. I sent him photos of the facade and my new sign to get his opinion.
Received harsh criticism and good suggestions. What was needed.
First of all, he went over the idea of a banner in general. He said that in Moscow, banner advertising on a building that plans to last longer than three months is bad manners.
Secondly, the background ripples on the old sign and the small drawings on the new sign make it difficult to read. nine0008 As Taras wrote to me, all salons, shops and clubs abroad have long come to the conclusion that any artistic creativity instead of an even and contrasting background is unacceptable. And they do everything to make the information read well.
In my opinion, Taras was thrown out of balance by my smileys-molecules. He wrote that in a sign, as in make-up, either lips or eyes should be bright. Or a bright background and a calm color of letters. Or a calm background and bright letters. "And to make bright both that, and another are inclined only in Romania". Based on this principle, the sign I invented is not just Romanian, but generally terrible. I have all multi-colored letters, and a background with color drawings. nine0003
Thirdly, the sign must have a color match with the elements of the building - for example, it must match the tone of the door and frames. In my version, there was no such connection.
Also, the sign should occupy the entire width of the facade, and not just part of it, as we have now.
Then Taras argues as follows:
“The target audience is parents who choose a quality and prestigious children's club for their child.
Do they expect to see elements of childlike innocence on the sign? Rather, they are interested in this or that degree of solidity, and they expect to see a toy inside. Will a vegetable stand level sign inspire confidence? Or, based on the principle “All the best for the children,” are they waiting for a sign that will look like the signs of the establishments they are used to visiting (good shops, beauty salons, fitness clubs)? nine0003
Taras offered to focus on the following examples:
Here is one of the signs offered for our club:
The sign occupies the entire width of the facade and matches the color of the door and frames.
The letters in the word CLASSICS are raised, cut from acrylic sheet.
And the next version uses a frame-colored background and bright letters. I really liked it, but colleagues, friends and acquaintances criticized this option - too gloomy. nine0003
We continue to think and work on our input group, and by September we will definitely show what happened.
Which version of the signboard for the children's club seems more correct to you - "toy" or "solid"?
Have you registered your sign and have you faced extortion due to not registering?
Please tell us about it in the comments - very interesting.

Natalia I., 11.2020
Good afternoon! My name is Elena. I am the mother of two children. The oldest student is 4th grade, the youngest is 6 years old. We went to prepare for school at the DIVO CENTER, which is located on the street. Chelyuskintsev. When the specialists of the center offered me to attend an online lesson, I was against it, because. the child is very active, and it is difficult for him to sit in one place. But I decided to try. The first lesson was with Marina Alexandrovna in literacy. The whole lesson, which lasts 30 minutes, passed in one breath. The child was very excited. Listen carefully to the teacher. Completed all tasks. Now every day we look forward to a new lesson. Thank you very much DIVO specialists for interesting and informative online lessons. nine0003
Elena, 04.2020
We thank all the teachers of the Neskuchny Sad kindergarten for the excellent opportunity to conduct online classes with our children during the quarantine period! The child is delighted that he can communicate with the children from his group and the teachers from his home! I really liked the creative tasks and classes with a speech therapist! We hope to see you soon in person with our beloved nursery!
Olga, 04.
