Questions and Answers
Sight Words Go Fish is a vocabulary-themed variation of the classic Go Fish card game, for 2-4 players. Introducing this game is easiest when the children already have experience playing the traditional Go Fish game, because they will already understand the game dynamics and can focus their attention on the reading aspect. This is of particular importance for younger children, who can get overwhelmed with having to learn a new game and new words at the same time.
The goal is to collect more pairs of matching cards than anyone else. Children must read the sight word on the card they wish to play and be able to read the words that are requested by other players. It is another fun way to give children extensive exposure to a variety of sight words.

For Sight Words Go Fish, you will make and use a set of cards with various word pairs. The number of pairs depends on how many words you select when creating the cards. You can also remove some pairs from your deck of cards to make it a more manageable size.
Use our Go Fish Card Generator to create a set of cards and print them out, preferably on heavy-duty cardstock paper. You will want to use a mix of newer words that the children have not yet mastered and familiar words that could use some review.

These instructions are for a game with 3-4 players. Sight Words Go Fish can also be played easily with just two players.

Deal 5 cards to each player (7 cards each if there are only 2 players), then place the remaining cards face down in the middle of the circle formed by the players.
All the players look at their cards but do not reveal them to each other.
Player A takes the first turn. Player A selects one of her cards and reads the word on it out loud, moving her index finger from left to right underneath the letters as she reads. (An adult should demonstrate this reading technique at the start of the game to teach or remind children how best to read the word.)
Player A then selects another player and asks him, “Player C, do you have any cards with the word BEFORE?” If Player C has a card with that word, he must say “Yes, I have a card with the word BEFORE,” and hand it to Player A, who then gets another turn. If any player struggles with reading or pronouncing a word, take a moment to go through the sight words correction to reinforce the correct pronunciation.
If Player C does not have any of the requested card, he shouts, “Go Fish!” Player A must then draw a card from the stack. If the drawn card has the word she was looking for, she shows the card and gets to take another turn.
Otherwise, her turn ends, and the child who said “Go Fish” gets the next turn.
If a player collects both cards of a particular word pair, he puts them in a face-up stack in front of him. The game continues until someone has no cards left or the face-down stack runs out. The winner is the player with the most pairs of matching cards.

To make the game a little easier, especially for a younger child, simply use fewer pairs of cards.

Observe the game, whether it’s watching your own child in your 2-player game or observing a group of students in a 4-player game. Make note of which words the children have mastered, and which ones are still a bit of a struggle. Be on the lookout for individual children who are struggling with several of the words.
A child is considered to have mastered the sight words in this activity when she can consistently recognize and read all the word cards in her hand, with confidence and without any noticeable hesitation.

Word Go Fish is a simple game I created for centers years ago. It uses sight word cards in a game of Go Fish.
In addition to playing Word Fish with the cards, I also use the same cards for Memory. It’s a versatile game that you can print once and use in two different ways.
What’s Included?
Direction cards
Blank cards
Preprimer cards
Primer cards
First-grade cards
Second-grade cards
Third-grade cards
Card backs
Tips for Playing Word Go Fish or Word Memory
Create some sort of back for the cards. If not, the cards will be see-through. You can do this by:
Printing memory card or word fish backs and then glue onto the back of each sight word card sheet and then cut out.
OR just simply glue the printed pages onto pieces of cardstock or construction paper and then cut it out (just glue the whole sheet and then cut, it’s easier!)
Print on cardstock for added durability
Laminate the cards so they last longer
Send the files home with a parent or have a parent volunteer in school make them!
Materials Needed to PlayWord Go Fish & Memory
2 copies of your level’s sight words cards per group of students (they need to make matches in both games so you will need 2 copies to make a match).
1 copy of directions per center

2-4 players per game
Deal 5 cards to each player
Place the remaining cards facedown in a pile
Player 1 asks another player if they have a matching card to one in their hand
If the player has the requested card, they give it to player 1. This makes a pair and the player puts the pair down in their pair pile.
If the player doesn’t have the card, they say “Word Fish” and player 1 takes a card from the pile and places it in their hand. If it makes a pair, they can put the pair into their pair pile.
Repeat the process for each player.
When there are no cards left in the deck, the player with the most pairs wins!
Sight Word Memory Directions
2-4 players per game
Shuffle the cards.
Lay all of the cards facedown in rows.
Player 1 flips 2 cards over.
If they make a match, they keep the cards and put them into a pile.
If they don’t match, flip the cards back over.
Repeat with the remaining players.
When there are no cards left, the player with the most pairs wins!

The time of day for fishing is the best time for fishing in summer. What time of day is best to fish
Experienced anglers know that the time of day is of great importance in fishing. There are periods when the fish itself "goes into the hands", and sometimes even the most successful presentation and games with baits do not make predators interested in prey. It is especially important to understand the patterns of fish behavior in different weather and time of day for those who are going to fish on the Kola Peninsula, since the weather conditions here can change several times a day. Let's try to figure out what time is the best for fishing on the rivers of the Arctic. nine0013
General patterns of fish behavior at different times of the day
Fish are cold-blooded creatures, so their activity varies depending on the water temperature. In severe cold, they become inactive, and on hot days they move deeper into the river in search of cool water. The greatest mobility of predatory fish is observed during the period of activity of insects, which are fed not only by themselves, but also by their main food - small inhabitants of the reservoir. So, let's look at what time of day is best to fish on the rivers of the Kola Peninsula in order to return with a good catch. nine0013
Morning
The best time of day for fishing in summer is considered to be early in the morning - it is in the first hours after dawn that the fish begin to actively feed. The shallows warm up under the rays of the morning sun, which creates comfortable conditions for feeding fish. In the morning, it is recommended to fish with surface floating lures, which are best cast closer to the shore.
The preferences of the fish in spring are slightly different: since the water near the surface warms up only in the late morning, you can try to come to the reservoir at 11-12 in the afternoon. At the same time, it is more likely to meet prey in those places of the rivers where there are dark, faster warming areas. nine0013
Day
If daytime fishing in spring can bring a good catch, then with the start of the summer season the situation changes. Closer to noon, the water temperature rises and becomes too warm for most of the inhabitants of the reservoir. At the same time, the amount of oxygen in the heated water decreases, so the fish moves to a depth where there are more comfortable conditions for life. Despite the good weather, summer is not the best time for daytime fishing.
Nevertheless, the experience of the fishing instructors at the Belousiha River Lodge camp shows that daytime fishing in the summer can bring excellent trophies. They recommend casting the bait in deep places, as well as around rocks where fish can rest. You can experiment with sinking baits to interest predators lurking in the depths. nine0013
Evening
To find out what time of day is optimal for fishing, it is important to know the feeding patterns of fish in different seasons. For example, the evening hours are good for fishing in summer and autumn, as the water temperature becomes comfortable and river dwellers come out in search of food. If in the summer the water cools down in the evening, then it warms up in the fall. By the way, autumn fishing can surprise you with a rich catch. This is due to the need to accumulate fat before the onset of cold weather, when the amount of food is significantly reduced. nine0013
Night
Fishing on the Kola Peninsula at night can be a difficult test for the angler - even in summer the air temperature can drop below 0 °C. Nevertheless, we recommend that lovers of experiments try their hand at night fishing - this time is well suited for hunting predators. It is especially likely to catch fish that have a well-developed sense of smell: for example, in summer you can fish for bream, catfish, burbot and eel.
The influence of weather on fish
When choosing the ideal time for fishing, not only seasonality is taken into account, but also weather conditions. Even with slight fluctuations in water temperature or atmospheric pressure, the behavior of the fish will be different. Let's see how the weather affects the inhabitants of the reservoir.
Water temperature
Food is digested faster in warm water, so the bite will be better. In winter, the amount of food in the pond decreases, the metabolism of the fish slows down, and as a result, it becomes less active. As we have already said, hot weather is not suitable for fishing, so you can’t count on a big catch on a summer afternoon. nine0013
Wind
The wind will tell the angler where to go fishing while fishing on the Kola Peninsula. Together with the waters, it pushes small forage fish towards the opposite shore - predators usually stand towards the wind, intercepting the floating food. Cast your line in the direction of the wind so that the bait moves with the rest of the food.
Rains
Depending on the intensity, rain can affect fish behavior in different ways. For example, light rain will only contribute to fishing - drops "break" the surface of the water, disrupting visibility for fish. Precipitation washes insects into the river, which lures the inhabitants of the reservoir to feed. But heavy rain only disturbs the water, which makes it more difficult for predators to hunt. nine0013
Tides
When choosing the best time to fish in the sea, it is also important to consider the tides. The movement of water lifts nutrients from the depth of the reservoir, dispersing the bait for fish in this way. The greatest activity of predators is observed not when the tides reach a certain point, but when they simply change.
Atmospheric pressure
This factor partially affects the behavior of aquatic life - depending on the pressure values, the swim bladder of the fish decreases or increases. The main changes relate to the density of water and the level of oxygen in it. The higher the atmospheric pressure, the better the oxygen dissolves in the water, providing the fish with favorable living conditions. nine0013
Features of salmon behavior
If you are planning a trip to the Kola Peninsula, it is probably for the sake of Atlantic salmon, which is hunted every year by fishermen from different regions of the country. What is important to know about salmon behavior? First of all, it is worth saying that the best time of day for fishing is morning or evening, especially during the hot season. In cloudy weather, salmon bite better during the day.
When the water temperature in the reservoir is 3-4 °C, a sluggish run of Atlantic salmon is observed. In order for the conditions for feeding salmon to be as comfortable as possible, the river should warm up to 7-12 °C. In this case, she becomes more mobile, often rises to the surface of the water and jumps out, demonstrating her best "tricks". When the temperature reaches 15 ° C, the activity of the fish decreases, it is looking for the coolest places where it can wait until the evening. nine0013
The highest salmon activity is observed during spawning, when the fish returns to the rivers again.
