Teachers and parents are raving!

We can help you Save Time and Have Fun Teaching!

“My 8-year-old son, Miles, is on the autistic spectrum and is totally and utterly obsessed with HFT. I have the songs in my head morning and night! He waits excitedly for the next video to watch. HFT has helped my son enormously with his clarity of speech and knowledge of letters, consonants, vowels, and math skills. A BIG thank you from us all.”

Charlotte H.

Mother

“I have been incorporating Have Fun Teaching songs, music videos, lessons, and worksheets since the company first began. I believe in the vision surrounding the entire brand. Eight years ago, my students had the privilege to record their own ‘music videos’ for the owners of HFT. Those students, some who have graduated, can still remember all of the words to those songs! Every teacher and parent should be using HFT. Your kids will thank you for it!”

Jess B.

Elementary Teacher

“I have bee“I have been an elementary school teacher for 10 years, having taught grades K, 1, 3, and 5. Sometimes, finding catchy ways to help students learn can be difficult, but HFT makes it easy and fun! Songs, videos, worksheets, and all the other resources I need for my classroom are easy to find on the website. If I am ever in need of a music video to help teach a skill, I know I can count on Have Fun Teaching. When my students were having difficulty with skip counting, HFT had it covered! How to enjoy studying: my 6 ground rules

March 18, 2014 Education

Does the very thought of textbooks and homework terrify you? In fact, you can get great pleasure from the learning process.

Can learning be fun? Many of us perceive this process as something forced that you just need to endure and survive. Moreover, over the years it becomes more and more difficult to force yourself to “dive” into new knowledge. But just not for me. I really love to study. And I know how this process can be turned into a pleasant pastime and achieve results. nine0003

In this post you will not find a universal rule "how to learn Chinese and do nothing", I just want to share the main points from my own experience that will help you organize the process of self-study more comfortably.

"Ideal world"

If the environment does not encourage concentration of attention or "strains" in some way, the time spent studying will be just wasted. An uncomfortable room, lack of light, fresh air or free space - these factors have a huge impact on me personally. Therefore, before starting any activity, I take on the organization of my “ideal world”, creating the environment in which I feel comfortable doing my favorite things, including comfortable clothes, a certain place and objects in the room, a pillow, a special mug of water or tea and a couple of fresh fruits. In the warm season, I can move to the balcony or to the garden at the dacha of my parents. There are no boundaries here. When "my world" is ready, you can start studying. nine0003

Own pace

It's not for nothing that some people prefer sprinting, while others take part in marathons with pleasure. These approaches work not only in sports, but also in the learning process. At the very beginning, it is very important to determine the format in which it is best for you to work and develop your own pace.

  1. Do you prefer to do everything quickly, but for a short time? Excellent! In this case, the format of short sessions is suitable for you, during which you will actively progress according to your plan and take small breaks in between. The principle is simple - 15-20 minutes of classes, 5-10 minutes of a break. During breaks, you can distract yourself with something else, such as exercising, watering flowers, having a snack, or going outside. nine0020
  2. Those who prefer to "dive" into the topic and "dig into" the details will like longer sessions.

Personally, I alternate these approaches from time to time, although in most cases I get carried away with the topic and can sit without interruption for several hours in a row, losing track of time.

Start and finish are the most important

In most cases, we remember best the facts that took place at the very beginning and at the end of an event, only then recreating information from the middle in memory. Agree that it is easier to remember how it all started or how it ended than the process itself. This principle of the work of our brain should be used during study - start the lesson with the most important, and then finish with the most important as well. nine0003

I like to sum up what I've learned at the end so I can stick it in my memory. Briefly and to the point. I can even repeat several times on the way to the store.

Napoleonic plans

It is good to start any venture with such plans, but in the course of implementation it is very important to break the general plan into intermediate steps with your intermediate goals. What is it for:

  1. To formulate the main goal. Often the overall goal turns out to be quite abstract, and working on a detailed plan helps to concretize it. nine0020
  2. To correct errors. A regular “upgrade” helps to correct the planned plan, including new components or, conversely, removing what is not needed.
  3. In order not to abandon the process halfway. For me, achieving a result, albeit an intermediate one, is a vital motivation to move on. Without it, over time, all intentions come to naught.
  4. To come up with something new. When you break the process into small segments, ideas naturally appear on what can be added to it. These can be both auxiliary resources and methods for learning something. For example, stick the names of objects in the apartment in the language you are currently learning, always have a small notebook in your bag for notes, or come up with options to reward yourself for your own results. nine0020

No - lists, yes - maps

Mind maps (or associative maps) - what you need for self-education. They have a big advantage over the lists that we are all used to making - the ability to visually highlight information. Maps help not only to structure all the data, but also to build their priority and interconnection. A simple example: place the main word, phrase or topic in the center of the map, link it to smaller categories (important terms, ideas, tasks, etc. ), have subcategories on smaller branches. With the help of such cards, it is much easier to remember large amounts of information without bothering with constant cramming. nine0003

Have fun and dream

Finally, treat any challenge (learn a foreign language, take refresher courses, pass your driving license, etc.) as a fun and interesting undertaking, not as something obligatory and difficult. In addition, often dream about what prospects new knowledge will open for you. Learn a language? Perhaps as a result you will leave for another country or win in a foreign lottery. Don't limit yourself, dream big. For you, this is just another adventure that you can create for your own pleasure. After all, only you make the final decision. nine0003

Personally, these simple rules help me in any process related to learning something new. What do you use and how do you organize your process?

Cane or pleasure? What and how to teach children in the 21st century

On the eve of September 1, officials report on how schools are ready for the new academic year, and advanced teachers talk about what the school lacks not in the material, but in the meaningful sense. How and what should children be taught? What is really important in the school curriculum, and what is practically useless? What will be the school of the future? The creator of the InternetUrok project, candidate of physical and mathematical sciences, entrepreneur and inventor Mikhail Lazarev tells. nine0003

— Mikhail Ivanovich, for what future are you making your “Internet Lesson”?

- In short - for the fast-paced. Speaking of school education, we must keep in mind the world in 15-20 years - then the adult life of today's schoolchildren will pass. As the last twenty years have shown, the future is becoming difficult to predict. For those who are now 20-25 years old, the Internet "has always been", and their parents often had a hard time understanding how to send SMS. How can we be? Why prepare children? Hard to understand. But the guaranteed unpredictability itself is already information, already a prediction. Like a warning sign on the road. In my opinion, the first thing to learn is that of the three tasks of the school (to know, be able, understand), the third one becomes the main one. nine0003

— Why the third one?

— Understanding in any case will remain with the person. Understanding the situation, separating it from the surrounding world allows us to set a task for the machine. Knowledge can be obtained from the Internet. The execution of actions according to the known algorithm goes to the computer. The number of skills necessary for life is rapidly decreasing. Making a fire in the stove, washing, cooking, etc. These are all yesterday's skills.

— Automatic machines, computers increase the amount of free time and free people. nine0062

— Idleness, once a privilege of the aristocracy, becomes public. Managing your time - isn't this the main attribute of freedom, what each of us and all of us strive for together? But you need to teach children the noble use of free time. To teach sublime pleasures - creative leisure. These are painting, architecture, music, cinema, theater... Only they should not be studied as subjects where you need to remember when Michelangelo or Prokofiev lived. It should be about how to enjoy their works. Of all the arts, literature alone became firmly established in the school curriculum, because in the 19th century only books could be delivered to schools. And now everyone has access to all art galleries in the world and to all concerts and recordings through the phone at any time of the day. nine0003

— Will all this fit into the school curriculum?

- Ask school teachers who work as tutors about this, and they will tell you how much you can reduce the amount of time, leaving the amount of cognizable material - at times. It is only necessary to recognize that study is labor, and, like any labor, its productivity requires modern tools. They now exist and they need to continue to be created. What our company has been doing since 2008.

Distance education has been known in the world for more than two centuries. At the end of the 18th century, the so-called “correspondent education” appeared in Europe: teachers sent assignments by mail, students also sent finished works in letters. With the spread of radio and television, "remote" education made its first breakthrough, and at 19In 1969, the world's first distance learning university opened in the UK. The next giant leap was made possible with the advent of the Internet. In 1997, the Ministry of Education decided on an experiment by issuing the famous Order No. 1050 on the development of this educational sphere. Since then, many companies have emerged offering distance education services. In 2009, the first all-Russian Internet project was launched, within the framework of which video lessons in all major school disciplines, from grades 1 to 11, became available to anyone. The uniqueness of the Internet Lesson project is that it is not focused on simply giving the student a certain amount of knowledge. The task is more ambitious: to improve the very quality of education, to prepare the child for the future life. nine0003

And it is important to remember that a well-educated person does not mean erudite. Educated is the one who can think. That is, a person who has a taste for understanding and knows how to ask questions. An intellectually complex person. Democracy and prosperity pose new challenges in education. We must learn to make rational decisions: from political, in elections, to decisions about car insurance.

— What else is changing?

— Responsibility for actions increases. Our children will live in a society of complete transparency. Even now, information from pages on social networks is taken into account by employers when applying for a job. Social networks will accumulate data about a person from childhood. The social network, like once a village, will not forgive anything, every act will follow a person all his life. Don't hide, don't change your name. A person without a past on the Web will be extremely suspicious. This time. Secondly, a secure life without work will lead to a deficit in the pleasure of utility. nine0003

— What is it?

— Man is constantly striving for pleasure — from simple pleasures to the pleasure of a duty done. Among them there is an important sense of need, usefulness to someone. Unused people suffer from its deficiency and... the elderly get into the lives of children, and the young join radical groups and sects: I don't need it in production, so maybe I'll come in handy in destruction?

— Can education help again?

- Yes. A talented person who has not received a good education is dangerous to society. Teach a person to play the violin in time - he is unlikely to become the leader of a criminal community. And talents - they happen by chance, not only in big cities, where good teachers gather in "good" schools. The Internet will help solve the problem of democratization of quality education. But only "will help" - we ourselves must act.

One must accept that study is creative work. Labor that is impossible in a random team and under duress. The object of labor is the student himself. The tool of labor is the school, textbooks. The teacher is a helper. nine0003

— How do you see the role of a teacher?

- She must change. From a source of knowledge, he must turn into an assistant who teaches the art of understanding, teaches to receive sublime pleasures.

— With the help of what pedagogical methods?

- Ideal - to teach using pleasure. We are all happy to understand the joke. This joy is the pleasure of understanding. Here is the main learning resource.
But from habitual understanding will not grow. From the usual, you still need to make a question. Understanding is preceded by misunderstanding, surprise, intrigue. After which it is possible: "Ah, I understand." And when you understand, then you don’t need to remember. nine0119 Teachers are now competing for a child's short-term memory. Without true understanding, only it is used. But the best mnemonic is understanding. And understanding is an individual, independent process. Such individualization, taking into account the characteristics of a given person, can be provided by the Internet and home schooling.

— Home schooling is one of the signs of a new attitude towards a child.

— Yes, society's attitude towards a child is evolving, going through the same stages as the attitude towards a woman, whose status has changed from the property of a man to an independent person. Historically, quite recently, without exception, they were given in marriage at the will of the father, they did not let women out of the house without being accompanied by a man (in some Muslim countries this still happens). And children were killed, left without food, beaten. And now there are rudiments of a tough attitude. The child is locked up in school, in an unfamiliar group, in the power of virtually random people. I am sure that half a century will pass, and we will look back at the modern school, and be surprised in the same way as today we are surprised at the rods of the 19th century school. Flogging was quite justified in the eyes of the adults of that time. Also a form of socialization: it was necessary to accustom to the life in which the child grows up. nine0003

— It is believed that socialization is one of the main tasks of the school, and family education is criticized for its absence.

— Yes, socialization — like getting a set of skills to integrate into society — occurs in childhood. But there is no socialization at all. A scientist perfectly socialized to work in a scientific team is helpless in prison. Socialization in a random group, selected according to the neighborhood principle, has random consequences. In general, socialization can have different sides. You can learn to work in a team of like-minded people. And you can learn to love power, revel in it. In Germany, corporal punishment at school was only abolished in 1945 year. Many psychologists believe that the tragic obsession of Germany in the thirties and forties is precisely the result of the use of physical punishment as an official pedagogical device. Even now, by our actions, we often teach the child to love the power that has fallen to his lot. When we shout at him or severely punish him, what kind of model of the world can he make? Learning to endure the stronger is a useful thing, but not for creativity. So the next steps of emancipation are ahead: the child himself or with the help of a mentor chooses creative activity - that is, a school with a bias in music, drawing, mathematics, physics ... And general education subjects in a standard volume are taught at home. This task may well be taken over by an Internet program with a single standard throughout the country. At home, one of the relatives can be a mentor: grandparents live longer, parents have more free time ... It remains only to ensure that paying attention to the child enters into morality ... Thus, the classes of ordinary schools will unload, and you look - at the remaining children will have enough smart and affectionate teachers. nine0003

— I don't think today's parents are ready for this.

— Yes, parents should be taught how to spend time with their children. For parents, special courses on the Internet are needed, at least two or three lessons for each class, such as "What a parent of a sixth grader should know." Let's try to teach to treat children - their hobbies, time - respectfully, attentively. After all, the country's main strategic resource is children's time. As we learn to use it, we will become such a country. nine0003

— That is, the main thing is to promote the child's hobbies?

— Yes, because hobby is an occupation that gives pleasure. Passion is the ability to long-term concentration of attention on something outside of oneself. Up to a certain age, the child is very alive to the pleasure of understanding, of creation, of joint action. At home, a person rejoices at how his drawing turned out, rejoices at playing with his mother or brother. And here is the school. One of the shortcomings of the modern school is the "killing" of talents. The schedule is convenient for teachers, not for enthusiastic teenagers. Therefore, later, in life, three-year-olds are often more successful than excellent students. The first allowed themselves to get carried away, they were not weaned from doing it. Look at the biographies of most prominent people, from Clausewitz to Korolev. By the age of 12-13, they were enthusiastically doing something in an adult way. Does this mean that twelve years is the time for specialization? Not at all. This is a time of serious ability to get involved and be responsible. nine0003

— Meanwhile, many talk about the infantilization of new generations, about the prolongation of youth.

— Yes, there is such a thing as teenage. This is normal, because life has become much more diverse than a hundred, two hundred years ago, and a child does not have time to master all (!) Skills of adult life by the age of 12-13. But in his hobby, he may well specialize and "become an adult." What often happens in sports, music. .. Adolescence, youth - the time of a maturing or often already an adult mind. Nowadays, it is often a time of irresponsible waste of energy. I repeat, the main quality for the upcoming life is the ability to concentrate, to get carried away. And therefore: if you want to grow talent, support the hobby. We will definitely come to the conclusion that passion will take the main place in education. We will come to a pedagogy that uses pleasures, going from them to hobbies and success. Everything new is initially accepted by determined pioneers, followed by five percent of the followers, and then it becomes fashionable and the rest are connected. The advanced have long decided on home education, now it's up to five percent, for which we are creating such an opportunity. nine0003
