Once upon a time there were three bears, who lived together in a house of their own in a wood. One of them was a little, small wee bear; one was a middle-sized bear, and the other was a great, huge bear.
One day, after they had made porridge for their breakfast, they walked out into the wood while the porridge was cooling. And while they were walking, a little girl came into the house. This little girl had golden curls that tumbled down her back to her waist, and everyone called her by Goldilocks.
Goldilocks went inside. First she tasted the porridge of the great, huge bear, and that was far too hot for her. And then she tasted the porridge of the middle bear, and that was too cold for her. And then she went to the porridge of the little, small wee bear, and tasted that. And that was neither too hot nor too cold, but just right; and she liked it so well, that she ate it all up.
Then Goldilocks went upstairs into the bed chamber and first she lay down upon the bed of the great, huge bear, and then she lay down upon the bed of the middle bear and finally she lay down upon the bed of the little, small wee bear, and that was just right. So she covered herself up comfortably, and lay there until she fell fast asleep.
By this time, the three bears thought their porridge would be cool enough, so they came home to breakfast.
“SOMEBODY HAS BEEN AT MY PORRIDGE!” said the great huge bear, in his great huge voice.
“Somebody has been at my porridge!” said the middle bear, in his middle voice.
Then the little, small wee bear looked at his, and there was the spoon in the porridge pot, but the porridge was all gone.
“Somebody has been at my porridge, and has eaten it all up!” said the little, small wee bear, in his little, small wee voice.
Then the three bears went upstairs into their bedroom.
“SOMEBODY HAS BEEN LYING IN MY BED!” said the great, huge bear, in his great, rough, gruff voice.
“Somebody has been lying in my bed!” said the middle bear, in his middle voice.
And when the little, small, wee bear came to look at his bed, upon the pillow there was a pool of golden curls, and the angelic face of a little girl snoring away, fast asleep.
“Somebody has been lying in my bed, and here she is!” Said the little, small wee bear, in his little, small wee voice.
Goldilocks jumped off the bed and ran downstairs, out of the door and down the garden path. She ran and she ran until she reached the house of her grandmama. When she told her grandmama about the house of the three bears who lived in the wood, her granny said: “My my, what a wild imagination you have, child!”

In a far-off country there was once a little girl who was called Silver-hair, because her curly hair shone brightly. She was a sad romp, and so restless that she could not be kept quiet at home, but must needs run out and away, without leave.
One day she started off into a wood to gather wild flowers, and into the fields to chase butterflies. She ran here and she ran there, and went so far, at last, that she found herself in a lonely place, where she saw a snug little house, in which three bears lived; but they were not then at home.
The door was ajar, and Silver-hair pushed it open and found the place to be quite empty, so she made up her mind to go in boldly, and look all about the place, little thinking what sort of people lived there.
Now the three bears had gone out to walk a little before this. They were the Big Bear, and the Middle-sized Bear, and the Little Bear; but they had left their porridge on the table to cool. So when Silver-hair came into the kitchen, she saw the three bowls of porridge. She tasted the largest bowl, which belonged to the Big Bear, and found it too cold; then she tasted the middle-sized bowl, which belonged to the Middle-sized Bear, and found it too hot; then she tasted the smallest bowl, which belonged to the Little Bear, and it was just right, and she ate it all.
She went into the parlour, and there were three chairs. She tried the biggest chair, which belonged to the Big Bear, and found it too high; then she tried the middle-sized chair, which belonged to the Middle-sized Bear, and she found it too broad; then she tried the little chair, which belonged to the Little Bear, and found it just right, but she sat in it so hard that she broke it.
Now Silver-hair was by this time very tired, and she went upstairs to the chamber, and there she found three beds. She tried the largest bed, which belonged to the Big Bear, and found it too soft; then she tried the middle-sized bed, which belonged to the Middle-sized Bear, and she found it too hard; then she tried the smallest bed, which belonged to the Little Bear, and found it just right, so she lay down upon it, and fell fast asleep.
While Silver-hair was lying fast asleep, the three bears came home from their walk. They came into the kitchen, to get their porridge, but when the Big Bear went to his, he growled out:
“SOMEBODY HAS BEEN TASTING MY PORRIDGE!”
and the Middle-sized Bear looked into his bowl, and said:
“Somebody Has Been Tasting My Porridge!”
and the Little Bear piped:
“Somebody has tasted my porridge and eaten it all up!”
Then they went into the parlour, and the Big Bear growled:
“SOMEBODY HAS BEEN SITTING IN MY CHAIR!”
and the Middle-sized Bear said:
“Somebody Has Been Sitting In My Chair!”
and the Little Bear piped:
“Somebody has been sitting in my chair, and has broken it all to pieces!”
So they went upstairs into the chamber, and the Big Bear growled:
“SOMEBODY HAS BEEN TUMBLING MY BED!”
and the Middle-sized Bear said:
“Somebody Has Been Tumbling My Bed!”
and the little Bear piped:
“Somebody has been tumbling my bed, and here she is!”
At that, Silver-hair woke in a fright, and jumped out of the window and ran away as fast as her legs could carry her, and never went near the Three Bears’ snug little house again.

January 22, nine kilometers from the village. Yakunyol in the Priluzsky district of Komi, logging equipment woke up a bear and three cubs sleeping in a den. Frightened by the noise, the mother ran away, leaving the cubs in the den. But they were saved.
Will they survive?
Workers accidentally damaged the den while laying the bed. When the loggers stopped for a break, they heard a strange squeak. By the sound we managed to find the cubs. The workers picked up the blind week-old babies and warmed them up. The babies began to be fed formula milk, but it was obvious that without a mother and specialized care, they would not survive. As a result, we were able to find the Orphan Bear Rescue Center. The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection of the Komi Republic helped prepare the necessary supporting documents. They decided to send the kids to the Tver region. Director of the center Sergey Pazhetnov came to Komi personally to pick up the bears and take them safely to the Center.
The kids got the names Grumpy, Fat Man and Sunshine. They endured the 3,000 km road well and are in stable condition. However, it is too early to make any predictions.
“The first two weeks are the most critical period of time. Then you can exhale a little, but the reasons for worrying will still remain. Too at an early age, the kids were left alone, ”explained Ekaterina Pazhetnova, bioecologist, specialist in the rehabilitation of orphaned bear cubs.
So far everything is going well. Babies have great appetites. They eat every one and a half to two hours. The transition to artificial feeding was well tolerated by the crumbs. This did not affect their well-being.
“In four days, each of the cubs gained more than 200 g. And this gives hope that everything will be fine with them. I just returned from the next feeding - everyone ate their own norm, ”said the specialist.
Of course, it is too early to talk about releasing cubs back into the wild. According to Ekaterina, they are trying to return the pupils of the Orphan Bear Cubs Rescue Center to the regions where they came from.
“I'm sure they will successfully go through the rehabilitation process and be able to live independently in the wild. I thank everyone involved in their rescue, we will definitely follow the fate of the cubs,” Ekaterina Kiselevich, Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection of Komi, commented on
What about mother?
Residents of Komi, who followed the story of the rescue of babies, are also concerned about the fate of their bear, who escaped in an unknown direction. People are worried that she will become a connecting rod: either she will start attacking settlements, or she will simply die of hunger. However, the staff of the Orphan Bear Rescue Center was quick to reassure: “A disturbed bear will find a place for itself to continue its winter sleep until the due date. In any case, he will not return back, even if it is a bear and there are cubs in the den.
According to them, a close relationship between mother and cubs occurs only in the spring after they emerge from hibernation. When the cubs and the bear see each other. After that, the mother will protect her offspring in any situation, and they will try to follow her everywhere.
“According to experienced hunters, in such cases, as a rule, she-bears do not return, because fear is stronger than the maternal instinct, which is still poorly developed. Practice shows that bears, after waking up, hibernate again, because they have spare dens, ”the Ministry of Natural Resources of the Komi Republic also reassured the residents.
Every day on social networks, residents of the region sincerely thank the employees of the Center, who are constantly next to the cubs and do their best to get the cubs out.
“Please, little ones, hold on. You are in safe hands. Every year my heart breaks. Little orphans every year. As long as there are people like the Pazhetnovs, you believe in miracles,” Lilia Cherepina writes on social networks.
By the way, the Ministry of Natural Resources of Komi notes that this is not the first case when compassionate residents of the republic help defenseless cubs. Aleksey Rubtsov, an employee of the hunting department of the Ministry, , for his experience, released ten bear cubs from Komi into the forest, who visited the Orphaned Bear Cub Rescue Center.

Three bear cubs
Animals from Komi were sent for education in the Tver region
Three baby bear cubs from Komi, left without a mother, were sent for rehabilitation in the Tver region. Grumpy, Fat Man and Sunshine will live in the Orphan Bear Rescue Center, organized by the Pazhetnov family, and when they grow up they will be released into the forest.
According to the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection of Komi, the incident with the bears occurred on January 22 in the fifth quarter of the Sludsky district forestry, nine kilometers from the village of Yakunyel, Priluzsky district.
Logging equipment was laying a bed and at the same time accidentally caught a den - even an experienced hunter is not easy to notice a winter bear dwelling. The bear, frightened by the noise, jumped out of the den and ran into the forest. And the workers, having heard a squeak, took out three little bear cubs from the lair. To prevent the furry babies from freezing, they were placed in a warm beam, after which they called the police. Law enforcement officers transported the animals to the village.
Usually, cubs are born in early-mid January, so now they are still babies, who will not live a day alone in the forest. Employees of the hunting department of the Komi Ministry of Natural Resources immediately contacted the Pazhetnov Bear Cubs Rescue Center in the Tver Region, and the center’s employees immediately went to Komi, advising the people who sheltered the cubs on how to care for them. The animals were fed, by the way, with a milk mixture intended for human babies.
By the time the center's staff arrived, all the necessary "travel" documents were issued for the cubs, and the cubs are already in a new place.
“Cubs are only 7-10 days old and weigh just over 800 grams. At this age, cubs are at high risk of health complications. Together with the Wildlife Hospital, we are starting the fight for their lives,” the center’s page on the VKontakte social network says.
- I'm sure they will successfully go through the rehabilitation process and be able to live independently in the wild. I thank everyone involved in their rescue, we will definitely follow the fate of the cubs, - said Ekaterina Kiselevich, Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection of Komi.
The Orphan Bear Rescue Center has been operating for more than 27 years, on average 15-16 bear cubs from different parts of Russia go there every year. The animals are nursed, adapted to life in their natural habitat, and after they get stronger and are able to live independently, they are released.
