Great distraction for toddlers

This is essentially a digital storybook with music for little kids. My 2-year-old daughter enjoys it a lot, and the interactive features (e.g., sliding the bus doors open and shut) are simple enough to pick up quickly. I use this frequently at restaurants and other public places when my daughter gets antsy/bored and I need to settle her down with a distraction. Recommended (along with other apps from Duck Duck Moose, like Old MacDonald).

P.S. The latest update fixed my only pet peeve about the program by allowing removal of the music control button (which is easy to press by accident and opens a kid-unfriendly menu).

Literally the best app ever

BUS is literally the best app ever created. I cannot imagine a more soothing, reassuring, educational, and interactive experience. I cannot recommend highly enough; without BUS, my life would become a shallow, empty husk of its former self. It has soothed me for over a decade. 27–29August, the first weekend of the tenth anniversary festival "Vyksa" | Art-ravine. He presented to the public the results of co-creation of Russian and foreign artists, musicians, directors with Vyksa and its residents.

This year's program is built on the collaboration between Vyksa residents and the brightest figures of the new culture, it opens up opportunities for creativity and education. We are creating a community of citizens in Vyksa who, together with us, are changing the city for the better,” said Irina Sedykh, the founder of the festival, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the OMK-Uchastie Foundation.

The organizers presented a large inclusive program. People with disabilities could visit the local history promenade performance, theater and circus performances, musical and children's events. A special place in the program was occupied by events with audio commentary and translation into Russian sign language.

Famous photographer Dmitry Markov, classic of modern academic music Vladimir Martynov, young composer Dmitry Bazhenov, directors Andrey Manik and Alina Nasibullina, writer Lyudmila Petrushevskaya, actresses Irina Pegova and Roza Khairullina, groups Zventa Sventana and Aigel became creative partners of the townspeople , journalist Marie Armas and many others. They have prepared more than a dozen premieres for the audience.

Trioratoria performance

How does Shukhov's tower sing, how does Charles Renfro's Empty Pedestal vibrate on Red Square in Vyksa? How the wings of doves rustle under the dome of the Florentine Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore? These questions were answered by three works by the composer-patriarch Vladimir Martynov, the junior composer Dmitry Bazhenov and the medieval Belgian avant-garde composer Guillaume Dufay. And along with them - the work of three genius architects: the Italian Filippo Brunelleschi, the creator of the Florence Cathedral; Russian engineer Vladimir Shukhov, creator of unique hyperbolic structures, including the Vyksa water tower; and the author of the Vyksa "Empty Pedestal", American Charles Renfro. They answered together: the monumental musical-spatial project Trioratoria, created with the support of the InArtibus Foundation.

The dialogue between ancient and modern music became the center of the action. The 75-year-old classic Martynov and the 27-year-old debutant Bazhenov paved the way to the 15th century - straight to their ideological mentor Dufay. The next thread stretched from metal to architecture. The a cappella singing of the Vyksa choir was amplified by idiophones, rare instruments made of VMZ steel under the guidance of contemporary music researcher Petr Aidu. In his interpretation, the metallic voice of the plant sounds on acoustic instruments designed specifically for the project. Another connection is chorus. The large Vyksa choir revived for the festival, the Moscow Chronos by Yevgeny Skurat and the Vyksa children's choir of the Lepse Palace of Culture.

The artist and director of the Trioratorium was Katya Bochavar, the choirmaster Andrey Kotov, the author of the idea is the music historian Ksenia Anufrieva.

The play "He's in Argentina"

One of the central events of the festival was the homage to the contemporary theater master, director and theater teacher Dmitry Brusnikin. Irina Pegova played a performance based on the play by Lyudmila Petrushevskaya in a duet with the outstanding Roza Khairullina on the stage of the Lepse Vyksa Palace of Culture.

Dmitry Brusnikin staged "He's in Argentina" for the first time on the stage of the Chekhov Moscow Art Theater in 2011. One of the roles in the performance was rehearsed by the outstanding theater and film actress Iya Savvina - she passed away before she could play the premiere. Then, Roza Khairullina, who was not suitable in age, but ideal in temperament, was approved for the role of the elderly actress Diana. Marina Golub played in a duet with her - the actress died tragically after the dress rehearsal. Despite the sad circumstances, the performance was restored: the young Yulia Chebakova was introduced to the role of the middle-aged impudent Nina in five days. Subsequently, this performance put her among the leading actresses of the theater.

Yulia Chebakova made her directorial debut in the festival version of the play. “One hundred and fifty years old” Diana is still the same Rosa Khairullina. And in the role of Nina - Irina Pegova, who had never before climbed the stage in her small homeland.

Performance “Karamzin. Theater in the Village”

In 1990, Lyudmila Petrushevskaya wrote her verse libre novel in Dubtsy, 16 km from Vyksa. The text is called “Karamzin. Village Diary. 31 years later, it comes to life with the voices and gestures of the pupils of the Pelican social rehabilitation center for minors and other Vyksa teenagers.

Karamzin was made by Brusnikin Workshop graduate Alina Nasibullina and Dmitry Krymov Workshop graduate Anya Grebennikova. The site and the main character is the recreation center of the village of Doschatoe, built in 1953. A neoclassical legend, a charismatic building in which destinies changed and lives were saved. But the geography of Karamzin is much larger. The performance began already in the bus that took the audience to the performance, and ended on the banks of the Oka.

"Pap-up" show "Upsala Circus"

Another premiere of the festival in 2021 is a joint performance by Uppsala Circus and city residents in the hangars of the Vyksa Passenger Motor Transport Enterprise. About hope and resistance to cemented reality. About how important it is to be different, to accept and love yourself, to enjoy life in all its manifestations. About the invisible, but tangible connection of generations. The performance was attended by the main circus troupe and newly converted artists - more than 40 Vyksa residents, including athletes, bikers, street racers, blacksmiths, rappers and members of the veterans' choir. The show "We are not sand" is a collaboration of people and art forms that would never cross under normal circumstances.


Theatrical promenades "Around the corners", "At home", "Along the waters"

The local history promenade-performance directed by Andrey Manik "Around the corners" invited the audience to explore the city from various angles and answer the question: "What is Vyksa?" The director of the festival Fyodor Pavlov-Andreevich acted as a guide, local residents acted as actors.

Andrey Manik's "Going Home" is a complete "extraction" in one day. In their private houses and apartments, native Vyksa residents met spectators-participants with authentically set tables and true-to-life stories. Love and partings, parables from the life of business travelers, interesting hobbies and marvelous local customs - people of all ages generously treated them to stories from life and dishes that they are proud of. Among them are rice kurnik and Vyksa vegetarian lasagna, potato pancakes in Shimoror style, halloumi "White Sand", pies from Pirogova street and porridge with rabbit named after the Golotvin family. Without words, the buildings in which the characters of the play live were also talking about themselves: a fragile two-story house with four apartments, a large four-story cottage, a modest private house and a standard apartment in a panel.

“On the Waters” is the third tour of the festival. Festival guests went on a trip on SUP boards and heard the history of the Upper Pond. They were accompanied by one of the three rafts created as part of the festival in 2017, the Clothespin Plane by Vyksa designer and architect Ekaterina Kuleva.





Charles Renfro's "Empty Pedestal"

World architecture guru Charles Renfro installed the "Empty Pedestal" on Red Square, the starting point for a series of residencies for contemporary artists from around the world. Renfro was inspired by the legacy of Vladimir Shukhov, who created, among other things, the first Russian oil pipelines. Therefore, externally, the pedestal is a untwisted steel pipe. At the opening of the art object, the combined children's choir of Vyksa performed the world premiere of a work by the young composer Dmitry Bazhenov, who was inspired by Renfro's drawings.

The sketch for the new Vyksa mural was made by local children aged 6-14 during classes at the art residence. The wall painting with an area of ​​more than 200 square meters is the first children's work in the Vyksa street art collection. The children were assisted by the author of the project, the curator of the industrial street art park, Olga Pogasova, and an experienced artist-teacher, one of the first web designers in Russia, Natalia Struchkova.

For several days, young artists walked around Vyksa in search of round and triangular objects that became the prototypes of the elements of the future mural: the round belly of a venerable Vyksa man in a store, the triangular chin of a worker at a bus stop, a car wheel, an earring in his ear, an eye pupil, an old lamppost. Natalya Struchkova combined the drawings into a single composition in her characteristic pixelated manner. Moscow artists Sergey Ovseikin and Ivan Maksimov applied the resulting collage to the wall of house 13 in the Zhukovsky microdistrict.


"Union of Folklore Admirers"

The project of the stars of the electronic folk scene Zventa Sventana (Tina Kuznetsova and Yuri Usachev) and the electronic hip-hop duet "Aigel" (Aigel Gaisina and Ilya Baramiya). In June 2021, they conducted an ethnographic expedition to Vyksa and eleven surrounding villages. As a result, the musicians collected extensive material and created the track "Kolechko", the first concert performance of which took place at a joint concert on Red Square.

“Sleep in the Museum” with Zhenya Gorbunov

On the night of August 28-29, the first “sleepover” took place in the Vyksa Museum (overnight, from the English sleepover. — Note ed.). Forty participants were led into the world of sleep by a yogin, meditation teacher and co-founder of the Sleep Movement project Sofia-Zlata Shestakovskaya. She was helped by the music of the media artist and performer, co-founder of the GSh group and the author of the Intourist project Evgeny Gorbunov.

On Saturday and Sunday, the host of the Silver Rain radio station, Marie Armas, interviewed the main festival heroes in a dozen and a half. They talked about their work in Vyksa and with Vyksa, about their plans and dreams. Each viewer had a chance to ask their own question to Irina Pegova, Lyudmila Petrushevskaya, Dmitry Markov, Vladimir Martynov, Tina Kuznetsova, Roza Khairullina and many others.

The results of the residence of the living classic of modern literature Lyudmila Petrushevskaya were the performances “He is in Argentina”, “Karamzin. Theater in the Village”, watercolor studio “Rose Mania”, “Pyotr Piglet Cabaret” and “nonsense exhibition” “Until Tomorrow Five Days”, where Vyksa residents and guests of the festival saw illustrations for Petrushevskaya’s famous linguistic fairy tales “Baby Puski”, original comics about a dog Zamurzika and her family, announcements of "Akhineya", as well as a poem in pictures "Po, Li, Bo and Kui".


School of photography

Dmitry Markov, one of the most popular photographic writers in Russia, became the guest of the first weekend. "Dostoevsky from photography" spent a week in Vyksa, looking for his own subjects, subject only to him alone. The results of the expedition could be seen at the exhibition in the Shimorsky Palace of Culture. Markov also had a public conversation there with another resident of the city, Lyudmila Petrushevskaya.

Master class of street photography was given by Samara photographer Arseniy Kotov. He looks for inspiration in Soviet architecture, which acquires the features of mythology in his photographs, and documents the fragments of the past that he finds in unusual objects and abandoned lands. Its archive contains thousands of photographs and more than 130 cities. Together with Arseniy Kotov, the guests of the festival went on a journey through Vyksa, learned to see living stories in ordinary everyday scenes, and also learned about the technical side of photography.


Sports program

Sports program of the Vyksa Festival | Art-Ovrag presented not only sports familiar to citizens, such as BMX, skateboarding, but also a new project Parkrun. Swan Paradise", SUP-boarding and kick-scooting disciplines. Citizens were introduced to SUP culture in various forms — from yoga and racing on SUP boards to an expedition along the Vyksa ponds. One of the central events of the program was a mass 5 km race. Vyksa residents also enjoyed competitions in extreme sports, master classes and live communication with athletes. A new place of power in Vyksa, which appeared thanks to the festival, is Ipanema Beach. All weekend there were classes for the body and mind: dance lessons, yoga, body-oriented practices and meditation.


Children's program

Comprehensive school No. 8 and the adjacent part of the forest plantation became the site of the children's program of the festival. Music played by young DJs and sound experiments of the Shumoteka studio could be heard from the open windows. Workshops were located in the classrooms, and in the atrium there was a long table where children and adults presented the results of their work. Classes were held with the participation of teachers of the project "Teacher for Russia". On the final day of the weekend, a theatrical performance was premiered with the participants of the program.


Vyksa Privoz

Near the “All this is not a dream” art object in a forest plantation, a supply was working all weekend - it was a market, a food court, music, cool people from Vyksa, Moscow and Nizhny Novgorod.
