Butterfly Math Activities for Preschool

Focus on beginning math skills with these butterfly math activities for preschoolers. Inside this eight-page worksheet pack, you’ll find the following math activities:

Number Formation

Learning to write numbers is an important preschool milestone. However, it can be a bit of a challenge for some kids.

This worksheet packet includes a handwriting page on which children will trace the numbers 1-25. You can laminate this page or slip it in a dry erase pocket to make it reusable. Have kids use a dry erase marker to complete the page, wipe it clean, and do it all over again.

Sorting by Size

Sorting by size is another important skill for preschoolers to learn. It helps them to understand similarities and differences, and to see relationships between objects.

The sorting by size worksheet in this printable pack encourages children to cut and paste three butterflies in order from smallest to largest. If they have trouble distinguishing the sizes with their naked eye, have them use snap cubes or paper clips to measure each one before sorting it.

Color Words

For many children, learning color words is their first exposure to vocabulary that goes beyond the familiar names of family members and common objects. Learning color words broadens their horizons and helps them to see the world in a new way.

In this pack, there is a page that focuses on color words – red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple. Kids will read the color words in each box and color the butterfly accordingly.

If your child can’t read the color words yet, set out the six crayons and have them match the words on the crayon wrapper to the word in the box to color the butterflies.

Color by Number

At first glance, color by number worksheets may seem like nothing more than a simple coloring activity. However, these worksheets can actually teach preschoolers a variety of important skills.

They help children to develop fine motor skills and improve their hand-eye coordination. As children color in the different sections of the worksheet, they must pay close attention to the lines and numbers in order to stay within the lines.

Preschoolers will love completing the color by number in this pack to reveal the hidden image – an adorable butterfly.

Count and Color

For preschoolers, learning to count is an important stepping stone on the way to more complex math skills. And what better way to practice than with some fun worksheets?

This packet includes four count and color worksheets that are a great way for preschoolers to learn while they’re having fun. Each worksheet features a different group of objects to count. Kids will love counting the objects and then coloring them in according to the given instructions.

These worksheets are great for helping preschoolers develop their fine motor skills and number recognition. Plus, they’re just plain fun!

Abstract of the GCD on familiarization with the outside world and the formation of elementary mathematical representations

"Butterfly - the mistress of the meadow" (preparatory group)

Dear colleagues! I bring to your attention a summary of the integrated lesson on the topic "Butterfly - the mistress of the meadow" for children of the preparatory group (6 - 7 years old).
This material will be useful for educators working with children of senior preschool age, teachers of additional education; primary school teachers.

Integration of educational areas: cognitive development, speech development, artistic and aesthetic development; physical development.

Purpose: consolidation and generalization of mathematical knowledge, skills, acquired as a result of passing the course of preparation for school; consolidation of knowledge on the topic "Insect meadows".

Objectives
educational:
consolidate knowledge about the habitat of insects; repeat the species characteristics of insects;
developing:
develop logical thinking; the ability to solve problems, examples, improve the skills of orientation in a notebook;
educational:
to cultivate interest in the knowledge of nature, love for the living world, the desire to admire beautiful insects and reflect impressions in fine arts; improve teamwork skills.

Preliminary work: conversations, looking at illustrations, reading fiction on the subject, observing insects while walking.

Methods and techniques: game, visual, practical, questions for children, use of a literary word.
Materials and equipment: illustrations of insects, envelopes (7 pieces), task cards; magnetic board, cards with numbers and letters.

Activity

Children sit on chairs.

1. Organizational moment

The teacher makes a riddle:
A lovely, outlandish, delicate flower,
I saw it in the meadow,
I will not pluck and destroy it,
I can only touch it,
I just wanted to stroke the flower!
And he...And she...flew into the sky! (Butterfly)
(L. Lychangina)

Educator:
- Guys, close your eyes and imagine that we are in the meadow, and the mistress of the meadow .... Beautiful big butterfly. Represented?
Sounds of a recording with the sounds of nature: the rustle of the wind, drops of rain; chirping of a grasshopper, etc.
Educator:
- Open your eyes.

A butterfly enters the hall dragging its wings, sad and sad.
Butterfly:
- Hello guys! I got sick because of the bad environment. I need your help! My friends sent me letters with tasks to complete. And then I will recover!
- But I can't read and I don't know math at all! Help me please!
Gives the envelopes to the teacher. Sits on a chair in the hall (group).

Teacher:
- We will receive a letter for each correctly completed task, we will add these letters at the end of the lesson into a word that will save our butterfly.
Envelopes - illustrations depicting insects.
Some tasks can be read by children.

2. Mathematical warm-up.

The teacher picks up the 1st envelope. The envelope has a large image of a ladybug.

Educator:
- The first envelope with the task and the letter was sent to us by a ladybug. Child reads questions:
- How many seasons are there? Name them.
- Name the months according to the seasons.
- What season precedes spring?
- What season follows summer?
- What are the seventh and eleventh months in a row.
- What is the month that is between the third and fifth month.
Educator:
- Butterfly, now you will receive a card with a letter.
- Guys, name the percussive sound in the word "God." What can you say about this sound? (He is a vowel, and, as already mentioned, stressed). Get, butterfly, two cards with the letter “O” at once, because there will be two such letters in our magic word.

3. Working with equalities and inequalities.

Educator:
- Who sent us the 2nd envelope, guys? (Grasshopper).

- The letter contains task cards and some letter.
Children go to the tables, work in two teams on cards.
The child reads the task: "Fill in the gaps by inserting the missing character or number"
1) 3 4 7, 8 2 6, 3 6 9, 10 5 5, 12-2 10, 11+? =12
4+5 10; 9 1+7 (signs > or 2) Divide the cards with numbers into pairs so that the sum of each pair is the number 10
1 and 9, 2 and 8, 3 and 7, 4 and 6, 5 and 5, 6 and 4, 7 and 3, 8 and 2, 9 and 1 . What can you say about this sound? (Consonant, voiced, hard). I give the butterfly a card with the letter "Z".

4. Relaxation to the sound of nature.

Children lie on the carpet, close their eyes, relax, listen to the sounds of nature. The last sound should be the buzzing of a bee.

5. Work on the task.

Educator:
- What kind of insect is this? The bee brought us a task. 3rd envelope.

The teacher reads the task:
- Read the problem, name its parts and solve.
Bees prepared 7 liters of honey. The beekeeper took three liters. How many liters are left in the hives?
What parts of the problem do you know? Name them. (Condition, question, decision, answer).
Bees prepared 7 liters of honey. The beekeeper took three liters - this is a condition.
How many liters of honey does Mishka have left? is a question.
What will be the solution? (7-3=4)
State your answer. (There are four liters of honey left in the hives. )
- Who will write down the solution? (The solution of the problem is laid out with cards on a magnetic board).
Educator:
- Read the word "bee". Name the letter that comes after "H" when writing.
Butterfly receives the letter "E".

6. Fizminutka "Stupid spider".

A stupid little spider climbed onto the drain (children squat "on their haunches", connect the index and thumb fingers of both hands),
Suddenly it started to rain and washed it into the tray (they make "shaking off" movements with their fingers),
The sun came out, drying the tray (" draw" a large circle with their hands),
And the stupid spider climbed onto the drain again (they repeat the first movement).

7. Rebus.

The teacher picks up the 4th envelope with the image of a Spider

- Solve the rebus. (Answer: RAIN)
5 1 3 4 2
L J D O
Educator:
- Why do insects need precipitation?

Educator:
- Guys, let's give the butterfly the next card? What is the last letter of the word rain? Does this letter have a sound? What other letter has no sound? Here's a card with the letter "b" for you, butterfly.

8. Working with geometric material.

Educator:
Who brought us the 5th envelope? (Dragonfly)

Children perform this task on their own using cards.
The first line shows a square, a rectangle, a circle, a triangle.
The second line contains an oval, circles - large, medium, small and a triangle.
The child reads the task:
- Name the figures. Find the extra shape and circle it. Explain why you chose this figure.
Educator:
- Butterfly, and here is the next letter. Which? Now you will know. Guys, what sound precedes the sound a in the word "Oval". What is he? (Consonant, voiced, hard). Butterfly receives a card with the letter "B".

9. Logic tasks.

Educator:
- Who sent the 6th envelope? (Bark beetle)

Educator:
- Why is this beetle so called? The bark beetle sent us logical tasks.
- Listen carefully.
What does a snail carry on its back? (Building
How many legs does a centipede have? (40)
How many wings do two dragonflies have? (8)
How many antennae do three butterflies have? (6)
When is the easiest time for a black admiral butterfly to fly into a house? (When a door or window is open).
When three wasps flew out of the hive, four were left. How many wasps were there in the hive at first? (None, because wasps live in nests, not in beehives.
What is lighter than 1 kg of honey or 1 kg of cotton wool? (The weight is the same.)
Educator:
- Name the first sound of the second syllable and the last sound of the third syllable in the word “ Bark beetle "(Lay out the word on a magnetic board, divide into syllables). This beetle brought us two letters "R" and "D" at once.

10. Physical education session “Caterpillar”.

This house is strange without windows
People call it a cocoon. (Slow turns around oneself)
A wonderful house twisting on a branch, (Rotations by hands)
A caterpillar is dozing in it. (Sit down, palms under the right cheek)
Sleeps without waking up all winter. (Palms under the left cheek)
But winter is passing by: (Get up, wave your hands up)
March, April, spring, drops ... (clap hands at every word)
Wake up, sleepyhead, (Stretch)
Under the spring sun. (Draw a circle with your hands)
The caterpillar is not up to sleep. (Wag finger)
She became a butterfly! (Smooth wave of hands)

11. Creative task (graphic).

Educator:
- Caterpillar (7th envelope) invites us to fantasize about what kind of butterfly it will turn out to be.

Educator:
- Draw a butterfly in cells on a notebook sheet. Watch out for symmetry. The pattern on the wings of a butterfly is arbitrary.

The resulting butterflies can later be decorated with children in free creative activity.

12. Total.

The teacher shows all the letters received by the butterfly, places them in a chaotic order on a magnetic board, for example ...
DZOYEROV
- Make up a word and find out what gift the butterfly received?
HEALTH
Butterfly smiles, dances, thanks the guys, from now on she is cheerful and healthy.
Educator:
- What meadow insects saved the butterfly with us today?
-How should a person treat all insects?

2. Familiarization with the number and number 3

The teacher lays out three flowers, two butterflies on a magnetic board.
- Which is more: flowers or butterflies? (Children's answer.)
- What should be done to check? (Put each butterfly on a flower.)

The teacher invites one child to plant butterflies on flowers.
- How many fewer butterflies than flowers? (One)
- What needs to be done to make them equal?

Children suggest adding another butterfly. The teacher lays out another butterfly and draws the attention of the children to the principle of forming a new number by adding one.
- What can now be said about the number of butterflies and flowers? (There are as many butterflies as there are three flowers.)
- How did you get three butterflies? (Added one.)
- Well done!
- Now look at the cards in front of you. What do they show? (Cabbage, carrots).
- How can all this be called in one word? (Vegetables)
- Place three cabbages on the top strip and two carrots on the bottom strip. (Make sure that the children lay out the cards from left to right).
- What more? (Cabbage)
- What should be done to make the vegetables equal? (Add another carrot).
- What can now be said about the amount of cabbage and carrots? (There are as many cabbages as three carrots.)

3. Physical education

One, two - everyone sat down
Then flew up
Three, four - bent over
Washed from the stream,
Five, six - all into the forest,
The breeze carried us
Seven, eight - to the garden
Flowers bloom there.

- Children, look at the breeze brought us the number 3. The teacher invites the children to consider the number, draw it in the air, on the table, then lay out the number 3 from the colored strings. If the children have difficulties, you can offer them to lay out the number first along the contour on the card and then without it.
- Veterok has friends - Sunny and Rain. They decided to decorate the clearing: the breeze scattered the seeds of flowers, the rain watered them, and the sun warmed them with its rays. And then one day...

4. The game "Merry Glade"

The game fixes the ordinal score, spatial relationships. The teacher, speaking, works with demonstration material
... Waking up in the morning, Veterok saw that the first flower had blossomed.
- What color is the first flower? (Blue) Behind him, other flowers began to bloom.
- What color was the next flower? (White).
- Which flower bloomed third? (Red).
- How many flowers bloomed on the lawn? (Three).
