Seven things to know about your voice

Every voice is unique. We hear ours every day, but how much do we know about how it works?

Our voice is amazingly versatile. With it, you can communicate, sing or call for help. We use this tool every day, but what do we know about how it works? nine0005

The BBC's Curious Cases of Rutherford & Fry has studied the structure of the voice and made several discoveries.

1. You've had an accent since birth

Chinese babies cry differently than French or Icelandic babies

Babies begin to subconsciously imitate their parents' accent while still in the womb.

Scientists have found out by studying the crying of French and German babies, the notes that they emit when crying correspond to the tonal features of their native language. nine0005

They proved that babies from different countries cry differently.

2. The voice begins with a "buzz"

The author of the photo, Getty Images air from the lungs through the larynx.

Two folds of muscle tissue - the vocal cords - vibrate when air passes through them, making a strange buzzing sound. nine0005

It is this sound, passing through other "manipulators" - lips, jaw, tongue and soft tissues in the throat - that becomes your voice.

  • Give up alcohol for a month. How much health will be restored?
  • Egoists earn less and have fewer children

9001

Male voices break down during puberty when the vocal folds grow and thicken. Part of the vocal apparatus moves down in the throat and becomes visible through the skin, forming the Adam's apple.

The distance between the ligaments and the mouth increases. The longer the pipe, the lower the sound it makes, so the man's voice becomes lower.

Women go through similar changes, though not as strong, when they go through menopause. In some cases, the female voice may also become lower. nine0005

4. You imitate people you like

The next time you talk to someone you like, notice how your voice changes

The more you like someone, the more you will try to imitate that person's intonation.

For example, if a man likes a woman, often in a conversation with her he will unconsciously raise his voice a little.

5. When your vocal cords get old

As you age, your voice can change beyond recognition

Like other muscles, your vocal cords become weaker with age. Air passes through them even when they are closed, so the voice takes on a hoarse sound.

This also means that a person loses the ability to speak in long sentences - they simply do not have enough breath.

Also, as the muscles weaken, the voice may become higher. nine0005

6. The voice stays young longer

You will always sound younger than you look

The good news is that the voice ages more slowly than its native speaker.

Trying to guess the age of a person by voice, people are almost always mistaken according to statistics, underestimating the age of the speaker by several years.

7. How to keep your voice healthy

Singing often is good for the voice

Like the rest of the body, the vocal apparatus needs regular training.

To keep your ligaments in shape, try the following exercises:

  • Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart. Clasp your hands over your head. Inhale through the nose, lean back slightly, and slowly leaning forward, make the sounds "ah-ee-ee-oo" while exhaling.
  • Inhale deeply and exhale through your mouth as if gargling with water. At the same time, turn your head to the left, without looking down. Repeat turning your head to the other side. nine0048
  • Inhale deeply and exhale slowly, humming. The mouth is closed. Tap your fingers on the wings of your nose.
  • Press your chin to your chest and exhale slowly, humming in a low note.

If you do these exercises regularly, your voice will remain healthy and strong. However, you will achieve the same result, for example, by joining the choir.

Ukraine’s ambassador to the UKY in Great Britain Sky was said by Sky. News that Russian kamikaze drones are becoming "very dangerous". According to him, now the Armed Forces of Ukraine are trying to "find an antidote" against these drones.

Recall that in recent weeks the Russian army began to actively use the new Geran-2 loitering ammunition. They have already destroyed dozens of targets, including Western military equipment, headquarters, ammunition depots. nine0005

Ukrainian air defense systems are practically helpless in the fight against these drones. They fly at low altitudes and are made of composite materials, making them invisible to anti-aircraft systems.

They have already earned the nickname "flying mopeds" for their characteristic buzzing sound in flight.
