Large Letters Custom 3D Fabrication Services

Tradition + Technology

Large letters are ideal for making a bold emphasis on a brand, product, or message. There are many uses for these types of oversized displays. At trade shows, these huge 3D letters serve as a magnet to attract large crowds and to stand-out amongst myriads of other trade show booths. Retail stores can use them for visual marketing and product branding. Special events can use 3D large letters to clearly identify the main message points. The craze today is the ever-popular selfie – various uses of these displays can immerse you right into your brand and increase your social media effectiveness.

With today’s fabrication technologies, simple foam letters and metal letters can be turned into pieces of art with vibrant colors, airbrushing, and special painting techniques. Combining structural elements with the letters can bring some interesting focus on the letters and the associated message. For example, building a seat somewhere inside a foam or wooden letter can make a great place for that special selfie. You are only limited by your imagination.

Features & Benefits

  • Sizes – Most often when thinking of 3D letters, smaller sizes come to mind. In reality, if you want a 6′, 10′, or 20′ tall humongous letter – it is possible to do. Colossal messages can be created with these oversized letters. When thinking of that giant attraction, large 3D letters make it all happen. Thinking outside the box, letters can be much deeper than they are tall. A 4′ tall letter could actually be 5′ deep, making them totally out of proportion, but also adding interesting design aspects.
  • Fonts – Any style/size of font can be applied.
  • Materials – Common materials are foam (very light in weight), plastic, wood, and metal. A combination of materials is also available.
  • Professional Creators –We have a team of designers, artists, model-makers, painters, air-brushers, sculptors, carpenters, and welders to fabricate those large 3D letters with imagination, immersion, and experiential aspects.
  • Finishes – There are many different options for finishes such as unpainted in natural white or painted in a standard or custom color with matte or semi-gloss finishes. Lamination is also available. Even automotive paint finishes can be applied for extremely glossy finishes. Airbrushing of special designs can also be ordered.
  • Strength – Very often these letter displays are just meant to be temporary and self-standing. Other times, they may require structural components to withstand people climbing on the letters or leaning against them.
  • Project Size – No project is too large or too small. If you need a few letters that are 10′ long, we make it. If you need some letter messaging that is 100′ long, we can make that too. If you can design it, we can create a physical model of it. If you can’t design it, we have a team of design professionals who can. We can work with preparing 3D models from scans, drawings, photos, and even napkin drawings.
  • Capacity – We have 60,000 square feet of production facilities in Utah, including the largest capacity of full-color 3D printing in the world.
  • Technologies – At WhiteClouds, we use many different technologies including Foam Fabrication, Hot Wiring, CNC Cutting, Laser Cutting, Welding, and 6 different 3D Printing technologies.
  • Combination – At times, it makes sense to combine large letters and messaging with special themed displays or trade show displays. We can easily combine large letters with large numbers. We have the team that can create your letters that might include custom electronics, lighting, and sound.

Technology & Materials

  • We use foam fabrication technologies such as CNC Cutting, Hot Wires, Laser Cutting, Hot Knifing, and Sculpting.
  • We fabricate high-quality customized large metal letters from 3 feet tall and above with several metal materials and finish options.
  • With 3D printing technology, you aren’t limited to straight lines and boxes. A 3D printer can easily create detailed, complex shapes. We use six different 3D printing technologies using different materials including UV-cured resin. The type of physical completed product determines which material will produce the best results. We can help you choose the material that is best for your project. Resolution on our printers is finer than a human hair. Our color 3D printers can print in full-color (over 750,000 variations of color) for awe-inspiring reality.
  • Our in-house spray booth gives us flexibility in different types and grades of paint and finishing capabilities.
  • Depending on requirements for durability, weather-proofing, temperature, mobility, strength, and flexibility, different finishes for our 3D letters can be used. These finishes may be combinations of painting, air-brushing, flat-to-glossy finishes, natural environment finishes, soft-shell and hard-shell coatings, sealers, and glassing. These can be from latex, acrylic, urethane, polyurea, epsilon, polyurethane, and many others.

Custom 3D Letter Pricing

The cost of custom 3D letters are based on the volume of materials (size of the letters), type of materials, the time it takes to create the 3D design, production labor, and possible installation time and materials, as well as other specific elements unique to the project. Each large letter project is bid individually and the best way to determine cost is to email us, call us at 385-206-8700, or fill out the form below and let us bid on your project.

Common Questions & Answers

  • Can you use my custom artwork?
Yes. Please send us your file in a vector AI, EPS, or PDF format.
  • How do I know what size letters I need for viewing distance?
A general rule is that you can see a:

      • 6″ letter from 125 feet
      • 1′ letter from 250 feet
      • 2′ letter from 500 feet
      • 4′ letter from 1000 feet

To maximize marketing impact, you might consider some of these sizes:

    • 4′ letters to 10′ letters for capitalizing on use of social media immersion (think selfies)
    • 3′ letters to 10′ letters for stage presence
    • 3′ letters to 12′ letters for trade shows
  • What is the largest letters model you can make?
There is no limit to the size of model. Transportability will be your only concern on an extremely large letter model.
  • What features can a large letter model have?
Letters can be finished with paint or special strength coatings and can even be airbrushed. They can also be covered with any special look you might want from organic coverings to special materials. Custom bases or special shapes are also available.
  • What file type is required if I need to incorporate special fabrication into the project?
We work with all architectural CAD programs and modeling programs including AutoCAD, Revit, Chief Architect, ArchiCAD, Maya, 3DS Max Design, Zbrush, and Sketchup, just to name a few. Creation Process

Our internal steps for creating customized 3D letters are:

  1. If available, we like to receive a CAD file (drawing file) from our customer. Many times we will design the file with our team of designers based on requirements from the customer. If letters need to be stand alone or attached to a base, then some design work is required.
  2. The next step depends on the type of technologies required. Most of the time we create letters with EPS (Expanded Polystyrene) foam, so the next step would be to upload the file to the computers connected to our CNC hot wire foam cutting equipment and then each letter shape is cut and then placed into production. If we are creating extremely large letters, we may need to glue multiple blocks of foam together.
  3. Our foam comes in different densities. The desired finish and design requirements will dictate which density we use. The higher the density, the smoother the foam (and also more expensive). Typically, we use 2 lb. EPS.
  4. Letters may be attached or connected to other materials for specific desired looks.
  5. Individual letters are prepared for finish work. They may be glued, sanded, primed, painted, airbrushed, etc. depending on customer requirements. We may need to spray on a protective plastic coating depending on required durability and weather resistance.
  6. If the letters need to be attached to a structure or stand, we then do the necessary work to finish off the project.
  7. Letters are prepared for shipping by either being wrapped/packaged in foam or special shipping containers.

Letters and sounds of the English alphabet

How many letters are in the English alphabet

The modern English alphabet contains 26 letters. English sounds were first recorded in the Anglo-Saxon runic alphabet as early as the 5th century. Christian missionaries brought to the island not only their religion, but also the Latin alphabet, which began to replace the runic alphabet around the 7th century. For a long time, these two alphabets existed in parallel.

The modern English alphabet (The English alphabet [ˈalfəbɛt]) is based on the Latin alphabet or "Latin". So what is the number in the English alphabet? Unlike the Russian language, which has 33 letters, the English alphabet consists of 26 letters:

  • 6 letters can represent vowels: “A”, “E”, “I”, “O”, “U”, “Y »;
  • 21 letters can represent consonants: "B", "C", "D", "F", "G", "H", "J", "K", "L", "M", "N" ”, “P”, “Q”, “R”, “S”, “T”, “V”, “W”, “X”, “Y”, “Z”.

Below we have added a table where you can see the entire English alphabet with the numbering of letters in order.

1 a 26
2 B b 25
3 C c 24
4 D 23
5 e 22

By the way, the letter Y can stand for both a vowel and a consonant, and therefore refers to both vowels and consonants.

Americans and British pronounce almost all letters of the English alphabet the same way, except for the last one. The American alphabet differs in that the letter Z is pronounced as "zi" [ziː], and in the British - "zed" [zed].

Sounds of the English alphabet

We start learning English letters even before we encounter foreign language lessons. We know them even before we start learning English: we meet them at work, when we play computer games or surf the Internet. English words are found everywhere: on advertising posters, in the names of goods, in store signs.

Although the letters may be visually familiar, they are not always pronounced the way they are written. The alphabet of the English language for beginners with pronunciation, numbering and translation will help here, because even those who are fluent in foreign languages find it difficult to speak correctly. A typical situation is to spell an English word, for example, to give an email address, your name or street in English. This is where the difficulties begin, and we try to explain ourselves with images and associations: i - “like a stick with a dot”, H - “like a Russian n”, s - “like a dollar”, v - “like a tick.

From here it is better to memorize not only the letters, but also their pronunciation. The latter is written by transcription and enclosed in square brackets. At first, it will be easier for you to memorize transcription with Russian pronunciation, but gradually you need to give it up and focus only on English transcription.

How to learn the English alphabet

Learning the alphabet is not just memorizing the order of the alphabet in English, Russian or Spanish, or knowing how many non-letters there are. To know the alphabet is to be able to pronounce sounds, as well as to write lowercase and uppercase letters correctly. In order to learn the entire alphabet of the English language easily, quickly and forever, follow these rules:

  1. Memorize both uppercase and lowercase letters of the English alphabet at the same time, pay attention to how English letters are written.
  2. Learn both the name of the English letters and the correct pronunciation, use the alphabet with transcription. It is easier to remember this at the same time than to relearn it later.
  3. Use all available resources: use audio recordings, videos of examples of correct pronunciation, printed texts, Internet resources.
  4. Learn the English alphabet in order, like in the ABC. Then change tactics: start studying the letters backwards, randomly, grouping.
  5. Exercise regularly, preferably every day for at least a few minutes. If you are tired of learning the same letters, take any children's book in English. Maybe you will not understand the meaning of what is written, but you will definitely be able to recognize and name this or that letter.

Another good way to learn the alphabet is to memorize a special rhyme. It is very short, but it will help to know every letter by heart:

Do you know your ABC?

You can learn along with me!

A, B, C, D, E, F, G,

H, I, J, K,

L, M, N, O, P U, V,

W, X, Y and Z

Now, I know my ABC's.

Next time won't you sing with me?

And the last piece of advice. Divide all letters into three large groups and learn them in three stages: the first group is 6 vowels: Aa, Her, Ii, Oo, Uu, Yy. Do not forget about transcription and remember that in English vowels can change their sound depending on the type of syllables, stress and other conditions; the second group of letters includes those that are written and pronounced similarly to Russian letters. They are easy to remember: Bb, Cc, Dd, Kk, Ll, Mm, Nn, Pp, Ss, Tt, Xx; the third group consists of those letters that sound and are written unfamiliar to native Russian speakers: Ff, Gg, Hh, Jj, Qq, Rr, Vv, Ww, Zz.

Methods and techniques for memorizing the English alphabet

There are many ways to learn the English alphabet from scratch that are suitable for both adults and children.

The most popular way to learn the English alphabet is through tables. You can print the English alphabet tables from this article or search for others: English alphabet by numbers; English alphabet with numbering of letters, etc. Hang them over your desk and browse and read aloud whenever you have a free moment. The main thing is to memorize the alphabet with the pronunciation of sounds.

One of the most effective ways is to make colored cards with the letters and words that begin with them and post them in a visible place. These cards can be made by yourself or bought in the store. It is better to use well-known words, for example, the names of animals.

You can train with special exercises, for example, this one: get a special notebook and write down letters in several lines - both uppercase and lowercase letters of the English alphabet. And when writing, dictate to yourself aloud the name of the letter. This exercise includes all three main types of memory: auditory, visual and motor.

Don't forget about games that will help you learn the English alphabet. For example, Spell the word or “Spell the word” - whoever spells it wrong first loses. And you can also read the alphabet at speed, write letters correctly by ear, pronounce the letters written on the card, and so on. The audio alphabet of the English language with pronunciation has proven itself well. A student can independently master the letters and sounds just by listening to the recording. The main thing is to be systematic.

Interesting facts about the English alphabet

Learning the sounds and letters of the English language will be more fun if you know a few interesting facts about the alphabet:

  1. The English alphabet can be called by its first letters "ABC";
  2. The English word alphabet comes from the Latin alphabet, where alpha and beta were the first letters of the alphabet. But even before the Latin alphabet, they were the first letters of the Phoenician alphabet (alef and bet), which arose in 1050 BC. e.
  3. The article the is the most common word in the English language.
  4. The most common letter in the English alphabet is E, and the most common consonant is T. The letters S and T are most common at the beginning of English words. The rarest letters in the alphabet are Q and Z.
  5. There are only 5 vowels in the English language and as many as 20 vowel sounds! For example, the letters Y and W can be pronounced as vowels (try, my, cow, few). The same letter can be read in several ways, for example, in the words cat [kæt], place [pleis], dark [daːk], air [ɛə].
  6. All 26 letters of the English alphabet can be put into a sentence or pangram that shows how each letter of the font will look like: "The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog" (loosely translated: "The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog." English analogue - "Eat some more of these soft French rolls and drink tea").

Conclusion

English speakers remember their alphabet much more often than Russian speakers, because in English the pronunciation of a word often does not match its spelling. Especially in geographical names and surnames. Then they spell these words (to spell). Therefore, in order to learn the entire English alphabet with the correct pronunciation for an adult, to speak English well and understand native speakers, it is necessary to learn how to spell words. And the phrase "Please spell this word!" ("Please spell") to help you.
