Whether you are a parent, teacher, or homeschooler ā€“ you will love this number sense activity for your next butterfly theme! ThisĀ butterfly math activity allows toddlers, preschoolers, and kindergartners to work on number sense to 10 while strengthening their fine motor skills. Ā  ThisĀ numbers 1-12 activity has children build butterflies by adding the correct decorations to the butterfly mats. As children number match, they will be working on preschool number sense. Use these spring worksheets for preschool as extra practice, at school or at home, summer learning, butterfly or math activity or as part of an extra activity for those who finish their other work early.

Number Match

At the bottom of the post you will find the pdf print file. Print off all the pages. There is one page with two butterflies on it and two pages with the number dots on them. The page with the two butterflies will need to be cut in half and can be laminated for durability. The number dots will need to be cut out and can also be colored in and laminated if you wish.

Preschool Butterfly Activities

Try try thisĀ butterfly math start by choosing one of the 2 butterfly templates included: green / yellow / orange or purple / blue. Now place all the number dots into a pile for them to sort through.

After choosing a number from 1 through 12, children will search through the number pile searching for the four number dots that match the number that they are looking for. There will be one with the number word, one with the number and a child, the number in tally marks and the number in a ten frame.

The butterflies are in color but the number dots are in black and white for children to decorate if they wish. This makes it a fun reusableĀ spring math to add to your spring math centers for kids.

Do you remember catching butterflies as a child?

As one of our favorite spring time activities, we have enjoyed this Butterfly Catching Roll and CountĀ simple math activity. Ā Kids love practicing number recognition, writing numbers and counting with thisĀ butterfly math game.

One of my favorite science projects was my butterfly collection. Once I got past the whole ā€œkilling butterflies for scienceā€ thing, it was very interesting to see how many different varieties I could find in my small town. My aunt would drive me all over town to the different parks to see what we could find.

My daughters love watching the butterflies in our yard and we work hard to create a garden that is welcoming to them. Weā€™ve also had a lot of fun raising caterpillars and learning about the butterfly life cycle.

Butterfly Math Roll and Count Game

We may call this butterfly math activity simple, yet the benefits are far from it. Children will be able to explore many parts of each number that is rolled. This includes recognizing, writing and counting.

We love roll and count activities for many reasons but one in particular is the element of surprise. The activity is never the same twice. Each roll brings on a different number and new exploration.Ā This low prep activity is so much fun, especially when we use our giant foam dice. The way they go tumbling across the table is beyond exciting for kids! The foam dice are also quieter. This is especially important when there are many kids playing.

We like using theĀ dry erase pockets. They are much easier and more cost effective in the long run than laminating. Although we still laminate sometimes. When I KNOW my daughter is going to be obsessed with an activity I will laminate it, so itā€™s always ready to go for her. These dry erase pouches are a fabulous alternative though.
