WORDS AND RHYMS - THEATRON

Playwright Leonid Zorin is ninety. Pavel Chomsky is almost the same. Georgy Taratorkin, despite the fact that he is suitable for the sons of the above, has also reached the age of wisdom. Together they decided to laugh with the help of the artist Boris Blank, who created the whole Acropolis on stage, and Victoria Sevryukova, who gallantly dressed the characters in picturesque costumes from Raphael's paintings.

The emphasis on ages is not without reason. The case takes place a couple of millennia ago, at a time when poetry was on everyone's lips, people not only spoke, but tirelessly gave out iambic verses. What has changed over the years, are there any significant changes? Let's see.

The artist made everyone who barely appeared in the hall move to Rome, where a blood-red wall with a jubilant victorious eagle whispered “Are you ready to see this?”. Come on. Finally, the restless weekend people sit down to see: the announcement of the news on the main square of Rome among the source with water pouring from the mouth of the devil (what is this, if not words pouring from the mouth?), Rising above all the huge Capitoline she-wolf - the symbol of Rome.

And according to the reasonable assertion of the Romans, what else remains for us - the winners to rejoice, and the vanquished to compose jokes and read Horace. The winners wear expensive clothes, do not think about what they will have for dinner, and rarely think - is it really possible to think forever full, drunk, cowardly? The defeated forget when their food was digested, but they remember every thought they had, even though it was expressed a decade ago.

The solid wall of warriors merged in their museum old age reveals to us a circle in which puppets are spinning, they serve as a door that is similar to those spinning in shopping centers. Here the heroes of the play appear - the men are rustic, rude, and the women with their characteristic elegance, expressed in their demeanor and gait.

Honor the word of the ruler, be a refugee, direct your inner fire to words for the sake of, and not for justice - it's easy. Not everyone can be Dion. After all, this means telling the truth, getting well-deserved whips for it.

Dion (Georgy Taratorkin) believes in biblical truths, does not create an idol for himself and is true to his word, like his wife Messalina (Olga Ostroumova), who, although tired of his truthfulness, continues to bear this burden on herself, as no one else can and there is something eternal in it. “What did I say that should be hidden?” he wonders. He is not afraid of the fact that satirists are either praised or killed, and he accepts an invitation from Caesar. What for?

Emperor Domitian himself (Viktor Sukhorukov) sits in a swivel (to match the office) chair. The head (it's also an armchair) is on the stairs, eleven steps, which are not given to everyone to overcome, but you can still try. To do this, you just need to speak the way Vladyka wants, do exactly what he wants, and sprinkle it with sugar and boiled condensed milk in a thick layer. And when you start something, you need to think about the consequences. And do not look for feelings where a meaningless pun is implied.

Servilius (Alexander Goloborodko) fawns while reading poetry. He has something that is not in Dion - he faithfully follows Caesar, even if his name is changed to Lucius Antony. For the latter, he also has an eloquent verse with a mention of his strengths.

But Dion cannot do this, he threatens the most sacred thing for the state - morality. The Vestal Virgins who cover up the vices of Domitian are, in his opinion, terrible. He argues that women should give birth, and not hide behind a white robe and frighten the people of Rome. For that he was expelled. And rightly so. How else? After all, people who sow confusion, in whose words one can hear a threat to the situation, are not needed.

But a wise man cannot be offended, from whom, wherever you drive him away, you don’t leave penniless, naked, like a scorched field, you still can’t take away what he has - wisdom. And nothing that it bears little resemblance to life wisdom, coupled with such concepts as opportunism and flexibility.

Lucius Antony attacked Rome. What did many people do? Adjust. Serve under a new beginning. Who turned into the hero Bumbarash, who accidentally, unwittingly, found himself under a different yoke. And what happens to those who are the former president himself? Drinks too much, goes underground, looking for a like-minded person. Thus, Domitian one day comes to Dion to find shelter. Here, no longer an emperor, he becomes a man for two minutes. And then... all the worries about where to find others. I have to live with them. To which Dion very accurately remarks, “You don’t need others.” Indeed, the sovereign is looking for those who will obey ... And Dion? .. Who needs an obstinate servant who knows more and dreams of eternal balance on earth?

Why the mind, from which the owner is nothing but trouble? What does Dion get from his mind? An opportunity to approach frank sycophants? Give yourself a chance in a court setting to speak out? How long will Domitian endure his presence? Patience is a property of subjects, not rulers, so time is running out. Words are sound until they are picked up. But the fact is that no one wants to pick up the words of a satirist poet, but how eagerly they swallow the words of the Roman emperor, who has become a god due to state necessity! And everything repeats - he leaves. With him leaves the young Juvenal (Dmitry Podadaev), as an image of an artist not yet spoiled by the state.

For some, the duel ended badly - the noble husband was kicked out as a complete killer, and it's good that they didn't cut off their tongue and didn't burn anything. But we know how the “barbarian” himself, left with nothing, with all his might, or rather the mass of the yard servants, embodying in his image a huge, completely unkind she-wolf, dominates the common people, who always have a choice - to be in the name or against. But it is in Russia that a poet is more than a poet, but in Rome they think differently. Here the poet is no more than a man in an armchair, and the word has long ceased to matter, unlike rhyme.
