Sid was very quick and efficient with our exterior siding and sidewalk. Got a quote the same day we inquired and he was able to complete the job the next day. Absolutely no mess was left in the yard. The sidewalk, driveway and house all looked brand new. Instantly took years off the appearance of my property. He was even nice enough to call me at my office and let me know he discovered a hole in the siding up by the roof while he was on the ladder otherwise I never would have known about it. Great local guy with the best price around. Would highly recommend to anyone wishing to have power washing done on their home.

    HomeAdvisor's Screening Process

HomeAdvisor uses an extensive screening process to screen businesses and business owners/principals. We perform this screening when a business applies to join our network and, if the business is accepted, whenever concerns are brought to our attention. If you have concerns that a pro in our network doesn't meet these standards, please contact us to investigate. We're committed to maintaining a network of trusted home service businesses, and those who don't meet our criteria will be rejected or promptly removed from our network.

    Criminal Background Check

    Who does HomeAdvisor background check?

The owner or principal of each business in HomeAdvisor's network (with the exception of Corporate Accounts) must pass a background check. Unfortunately, we cannot perform a background check on every employee of a business—the background checks are performed only on the owner or principal. As always, we recommend that you conduct your own research on the businesses you hire, including making inquiries directly with the businesses regarding their employee background check policies.

What does the background check cover?

We use a third-party vendor to conduct a criminal records search in the state in which the business owner or principal works. Our third-party vendor uses a national criminal database ("NCD") to screen service professionals. Businesses will not be admitted to the network if their owners or principals have the following felonies in their available criminal records*:

    • Arson
    • Assault/domestic violence/battery
    • Child abuse
    • Intimidation/terrorist threats
    • Kidnapping/abduction
    • Lewd and lascivious behavior
    • Manslaughter/murder/homicide/vehicular homicide
    • Rape/incest
    • Robbery/carjacking
    • Sex offenses
    • Other felonies not listed above that occurred in the past seven years
    • Contracting without a license in the past seven years

Our background check does not exclude service professionals unless the crime at issue is a felony.

*The comprehensiveness of the NCD varies by state. Please be aware that the reporting in the NCD is particularly limited in the following states: AL, CO, DE, GA, ID, IL, KS, LA, ME, MA, MI, MS, MT, NE, NV, NH, NM, SD, UT, VA, VT, and WY. After initial admission to the HomeAdvisor network, businesses are re-screened biennially.

How is COVID-19 impacting the HomeAdvisor background check program?

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, several government agencies and courts across the country have temporarily closed their offices. While HomeAdvisor will continue its background check program to the extent possible, these closures could prevent some background checks from being performed. Please be advised that, during this period, if we could not perform a background check, HomeAdvisor will allow the business into the network and match the business to consumers. As affected government agencies and courts begin to re-open, we will resume our program in those jurisdictions. As always, we encourage consumers to perform their own research, to the extent possible, before hiring any business.

    Licensing

We verify any applicable state-level licenses, and we require every business to attest that they carry the appropriate local licensing to practice their trade. Please note that HomeAdvisor does not confirm local licensing. Do your own research using online ratings, reviews and through phone interviews before hiring a company.

    State Business Filings

If a business states that it's registered as a corporation or limited liability company, we confirm that the company is in good standing in the state in which they operate.

    Ratings

Businesses receive ratings from homeowners through HomeAdvisor. Once a business is rated, we require it to maintain an overall average of two stars or greater.

    Corporate Accounts

Some businesses are employees, franchisees, dealers or independent contractors ("Corporate SP's") of larger national or "Corporate Accounts". When this is the case, we may match you with the Corporate Account or with one of their Corporate businesses. The above screening process does not apply to Corporate Accounts, as HomeAdvisor does not screen Corporate Accounts or Corporate businesses.

We require all users - pros and homeowners - to uphold our core values as outlined in our Code of Conduct.

Please see HomeAdvisor's Terms and Conditions for more detailed information on our pro requirements, screening processes, and disclaimers.

I DID IT MY WAY Farce becomes tragedy: Sid and Nancy. Punk Rock: An Oral History

Things moved very quickly for Sid. The end of the Pistols left him out of work. He also had hits, such as a great bubblegum reworking of the rock 'n' roll standards "C'mon Everybody" and "Something Else", where Syd finally fronted. Syd had enough to launch his solo career: a wicked sense of humor, shabby good looks and punk rock credentials to spice up this bubblegum. He could have become famous, as Billy Idol became famous a few years later, but Sid got lost in the lousy heroin world and ended up in New York drug hell.

On October 12, 1978, Nancy was found murdered in the room they were renting at the Chelsea Hotel. It's still not clear if it was a murder, a suicide pact, or if something just went wrong while buying the drugs. Sid was arrested and taken to Rikers Island Jail. He was released on bail posted by Malcolm McLaren and Virgin and closed again after he smashed a bottle on the head of Patti Smith's brother, Todd. The last few months of Sid Vicious's life became a tragicomedy and, in the end, February 2, 19At age 79, at a party hosted by his mother on the occasion of Sid's next release from prison, he died of a heroin overdose. If this had not happened, then in a couple of days he would already be in the studio with Cook and Jones and recording an album of covers under the guise of the Sex Pistols, which could include such a song as "Mack The Knife".

    Rat Scabis:

I did a concert with Sid Vicious. It was the same story, very strange. On the first day, he was late because someone had died in his apartment, and Sid was sick because he had no veins left except in his legs.[260]

    Don Letts:

When we flew to New York during this whole Sid and Nancy saga, I asked him to come into the office and sign some papers allowing him to be in my film. And here he is sitting there, and he has a knife, and he is poking Nancy with it. I tell him, “Sid, be quiet with this. You might hurt someone with it." Nancy says, "It hurts." He signs that paper and two weeks later he's dead. I have always claimed that Sid did it. He was the only one who didn't know this. He was the victim. He wasn't a winner, he was a loser, and I don't understand people walking around in Sid T-shirts. He was a punk poster boy who couldn't play bass at all - that's an indicator.

    Mark Pirroni:

Sid wasn't always so useless. He was a very smart guy, it was just too much for him. He was not a strong person. He had a self-deprecating sense of humor. He didn't say, "I'm the great Sid Vicious," he was making fun of himself. The very name was stupid. I don't know about his past. Nobody knew his real name. Yes, he did not know! It's not surprising that everything was so neglected, because the only thing you have is a character of your own invention, so he stuck to it out of fear.

When Lydon joined the Pistols, it didn't help. Sid believed that he should have been in his place. He would have made a completely different group out of them. With Sid, it would be a sneering glam rock band of art school kids. Lydon was darker and more material. Syd had style over content, which is fine in its own way, but I don't think Syd could write the kind of lyrics that John did. Sid had his own lyrics, like "Kamikaze Pilot". But I don't think it would work. Sid also lacked the confidence to walk up on stage and say "Fuck everyone!" No one has done this before John. It was absolutely unheard of. It seems to me that Sid wanted to be Bowie - only he didn’t have such a talent.

    Jah Wobble:

He died young and all, but there's really not much to say about him. He said that he would like to die, but it was not him - he had such a natural intelligence, and it all came out stupid. If he'd survived, he'd probably be selling clothes or something like that, be in vogue, New Romantic, like that.

Sid was not a tough guy. He was a fucking bore. Now it looks like he was a robber, and if I knew about it, well, I'm from the East End, and in that certain environment from where I myself, this line is not crossed. Sometimes they didn't tell me that kind of stuff.

Ax story? It wasn't me! I didn't attack Sid with an axe. If attacked, I would say. I was there when it happened. I was upstairs during this. I was drunk at John's house. John himself was not at home, and then the phone rang. I picked up the phone and there was Sid. I think he wanted to come in, he wanted to be in the PiL gang - he seemed to feel rejected by John or something, he thought he should be in the group - I think that upset him. He came and started kicking at the door, and this dude with an ax opened it for him. If you get hacked with an axe, you will die! I think that dude pushed him with this ax, and Sid didn’t even stand on his feet and rolled off the porch. Rolled off and smashed his head on a shoe shine.

When people talk about Sid, I remember that it was all a joke. We gave each other funny names. He changed mine from John Wardle to Jah Wobble, and because he looked so abandoned, we called him Sid Vicious.

    Chrissy Hyndi:

Sid was very nice and very honest. He always said what he thought. He was so uncomplicated. If, for example, you were talking to a girl who has a very big nose, he would say: “Damn, well, you have a nose!” But he said the same thing if he saw big boobs. He said: “Damn, well, you have buffers!” He simply pointed out what he was looking at.

I almost married Sid! Just so I can stay in the country. We came to the registration office with a fake birth certificate because Sid was a minor, but the office was closed for the holidays. And the next day he had to be in court because he knocked out someone's eye with glass. In general, it did not work out.[261]

Actually, it was John who suggested it to me first! But that story happened with Bill Grundy, and he almost lost his mind. I told him, “Hey John, do you remember what we were going to do to get me to stay in the country?” And he's like, "What? Che? What's wrong? And how much do you pay for it? I answer him: “Two pounds. And I’ll give them to you right away when we leave the registration office!” He spent the whole night in my bed, however, he was with another girl, and they did not let me sleep all night. I had to keep an eye on him all night to make sure he didn't run away!

I was a couple of years older than them. Strummer and the other guys were also a couple of years older, and those two years meant a lot. I was about 27 years old. I have traveled the world and accomplished a lot. So I was like a bridge connecting generations. I could hang out with Sid, but I could hang out with his mom! Just like I used to hang out with Linda McCartney and now I'm hanging out with their kids.

Once he realized how much everyone hated Nancy, he stuck to her like a stamp to an envelope. That's why they called him Sid: he hated this nickname, that's why everyone called him that. But when he was high, he became very angry. He had been on amphetamines before he met Nancy, and when she got him hooked on heroin, it was very easy for him to switch to it. Then he got into it. He had never been in such a relationship with a woman that she could control him so much. They must have been in love.

    John Lydon:

Drugs, heroin and influence from New York, Patti Smith/New York Dolls and all that shit got into him and he started believing in the Lou Reed mythology about how cool it is to look like a vampire and get stoned in drool. Complete self-deception. Sid's self-destruction caused depression. It was regrettable, but you can't help those who can't help themselves. All this was very sad.

The sad truth about the Ice Age and Sid

How often do we watch our favorite cartoons after a long time and see something completely different there? When you look at something with an adult and more experienced look, the characters, their thoughts and actions appear in a completely different light.

This is exactly what a Twitter user with the nickname Hustle Hazza did, revisiting Ice Age and looking at the cartoon with completely different eyes. Did you think that Sid was a funny character, and nothing more? It's time to learn the sad truth.

    What's wrong with him?

Sid is a funny and ridiculous sloth, a real comic character. He constantly says stupid things, falls, stumbles - this delights the kids, but for adults, his fate is seen as a real tragedy.

In fact, it is he who does really important and useful deeds - insists on returning the child to people, acts as the voice of reason and simply seeks love. And he has been looking for her since birth, because his family just left little Sid without even saying goodbye.

Friends (or those whom Sid considered friends) Manny and Diego do not miss the opportunity to insult him, call him annoying, unnecessary and garbage all the way. Quote.

And when a bright streak came in his life, Manny and Diego literally became a "bucket of crabs" and pulled him back, not allowing him to enjoy a good attitude towards themselves. And this is at the same time that Sid helped Diego overcome his fear of water.

Just think: other sloths appreciated Sid's personal qualities and literally worshiped the hero, but the tiger and mammoth did not let him go to his relatives, insisting that Sid stay with the two of them. The very ones who regularly humiliate and devalue the hero. Toxicity as it is.

Despite the fact that by the third cartoon in the Sid series, it seems that began to be perceived a little better, in fact, nothing really changed. When Manny got a girlfriend, Sid said to the tiger: “So now we are one herd,” and Diego answered him: “There is no us.”

And the unfortunate sloth had to look for love elsewhere: he found eggs and began to consider them his children, to take care and patronize them. But when the mother of the eggs, a big dinosaur, took him to her nest, only Manny's girlfriend, Ellie, wanted to save her friend.

Even Sid's own grandmother is not that simple. She is quite quarrelsome: having appeared in Sid's life for a reason (a family of sloths literally hangs her on the neck of the unfortunate hero), she begins to poison the life of everyone around. And Sid, out of the kindness of his heart, allows her to treat him like this and fulfills all desires and whims. Well, do you still feel like laughing at Sid?

    What do the fans think?

“I am crying. I remembered that such naive characters, who are joked about and so on, are in almost every famous cartoon.

"And everyone really thinks he's stupid, although he's just very kind and always made everyone laugh and tried not to lose heart... It hurts."

"Oh god why have I never seen Sid's story HOW TRAGIC"

"There's always been a distaste for Sid being treated like he's unnecessary trash, a rag and a burden."

"As a child, you laugh at him, and as an adult, you realize that you and Sid have much more in common than you think.
