Story on computer for kids

Technology-themed stories for elementary students

Students love everything about technology – and they can quickly become tech-obsessed. Students (and adults!) can’t resist one more scroll down, one more video clip, one more video game, and one more text. As educators, how can we facilitate open honest discussions about when and how to use technology? Here is a list of books and corresponding videos to jump-start these discussions. These books use adorable characters to poke fun at our plugged-in lives as these books cover real-life issues.

Educators can incorporate these tech-related stories into the classroom by:

  • Read Aloud to the class during story time
  • Have students read the stories themselves (print, braille, digital format, accessible digital format*)
  • Free online video books such as Youtube video books

*Note: Many digital picture book formats are not accessible with a screen reader. (Example: If You Give a Mouse an iPhone in iBooks is not accessible with VoiceOver because the book pages are images, not text. ) Check Bookshare and other digital options. Currently, three of these books are available in Bookshare (see details below).

ADVERTISEMENTS:

The final story of the computer’s effect on society has yet to be told, but it has wrought a revolution unlike any ever seen.

Though the invention of the microprocessor made the personal computer possible, manufactures at first failed to see its potential. It wasn’t until 1977 that Americans Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak launched the Apple II the first mass-market microcomputer available already assembled. In the decades since, computers have become more and more user-friendly and powerful and have changed lives in unimaginable ways.

The internet, for example, has become very popular in our country, with the World Wide Web its most familiar feature.

ADVERTISEMENTS:

The Web is a collection of hyperlinked pages distributed over the internet via a network protocol called HTTP (hyper-text-transfer-protocol). It was started in the late 1980’s by scientists wanting to share information on their projects, although at that time it was text-only. In a landmark development that came later, graphics were made possible with a browser called NCSA Mosaic.

The graphical interface opened up the internet to everyone and in 1993 its use exploded as ordinary people began to dial into the internet using their computer at home and a modem to get their connections.

Before all this, the only net-linked computers were at universities and other large organizations, but now anyone could use the internet, and the medium quickly evolved into the worldwide information superhighway we know today.

Although names like Aiken and Jobs, Wozniak and Gates all belong to men, many computer pioneers were women. In fact, the first computer, “compiler’ was invented by Grace Murray Hopper in 1982. Her revolutionary software facilitated the first automatic programming of computer language. Each time the computer needed instructions that were common to all programmes, the compiler would have the computer refer to codes in its own memory. The compiler was a time-and-error-saving breakthrough, or the computer world, and yet Hopper didn’t stop there. She also invented COBOL, the first use-friendly business software programme, which is still in use today.

ADVERTISEMENTS:

Ten years later Evelyn Boyd Granville, one of the first African-American female computer scientists, developed computer programmes foe the Apollo Project and the Mercury Project.

Another woman pre-dated these pioneers by well over a century. She was the daughter of the great romantic poet Lord Byron. In 1833 English mathematician named Charles Babbage designed a steam-powered ‘analytical engine’ that contained many of the operating principles in use in today’s computers- data storage print outs, even decision-making functions. Babbage was never able to complete his machine, mainly because the current metal technology could not meet his unique demands. His assistant in his labors was Auguste Ade Byron, Lady Lovelace, who became the author of the ‘code’ to run Babbage’s machine. She was history’s first computer programmer. In 1979 a high-level computer language, ADA, was named in her honor.

Researchers at IBM have announced, the development of a technology that can store as much as 20 times the data of the magnetic storage media used in early twenty first century computers. The technology can cram 25 million printed textbook pages of data on a surface the size of a postage stamp!

Computer - Stories for children

Yusuf's joy knew no bounds. Still would! On this holiday, he was unexpectedly presented with a computer - a real one, his own computer!

Ramadan ended the day before yesterday, and last night dad brought home some boxes. One had a brand new computer unit, the other had a screen for it, and the third had a keyboard. There were also speakers and a computer mouse.

By the time dad built the computer, it was already very late. Dad said

— Tomorrow I'm leaving for the day on business. Don't touch the computer without me. And in the evening I will come, inshaAllah, and together we will figure it out and see everything.

In the morning Yusuf jumped out of bed at a little light - after the morning prayer he did not close his eyes. Right in his pajamas, he rushed to the computer. What a shame! I had to wait all day for my dad. Long, long summer day.

Well, how can you resist! Yusuf sat on a chair in front of the computer and his hand reached out to the treasured button. He knew how to turn on the computer. He had already visited his classmate Rushan many times, and sometimes they played computer games together. nine0003

What terrible thing can happen if he turns on the computer without his father? After all, he knows how to handle a computer ... Besides, he won’t touch anything. Just play some familiar games.

The computer, with a slight buzz, turned on safely. Yusuf got to the cherished games and completely immersed himself in the virtual world.

- Yusuf! Mom exclaimed. Why are you still in pajamas? And he probably didn’t brush his teeth, and didn’t comb his hair ... Let’s have breakfast soon. We're going to visit, remember? nine0003

Yusuf forgot. And about the guests, and about breakfast, and about the toothbrush and comb. He played and played and couldn't stop.

— I don't want to visit. May I stay at home? he asked, pressing pause and looking pleadingly at his mother.

— Will you stay at home? Mom asked in surprise. Why? You really wanted to go yesterday. Aunt Alia will be upset if you don't come. You always help her so well around the house and in the garden - like a real man.

— Well, I'll go next time, I promise. And I'll be at home today. Don't worry about me, I'm almost eleven, I'm quite big. nine0003

“Okay,” Mom shrugged. - As you know. Just promise to have breakfast and clean up your room. And prepare your lessons for Monday, since you're staying.

“Okay, I promise,” Yusuf was delighted and continued to play. He was so carried away that he did not even hear how his mother and his four-year-old twin sisters left.

Yusuf forgot about the time. He kept playing and playing. His breakfast was cold on the table. The hands of the clock ran tirelessly, but he still sat in his pajamas, unwashed and unkempt, and played. Usually he read a page of the Koran at this time and performed two rak'ahs of prayer-spirit, but today he remembered them only when the azan for midday prayer rang out from his father's clock. nine0003

Too bad I missed it, the boy thought. But this is only once ... And he continued to play.

As soon as he heard his mother's footsteps outside the door, Yusuf woke up, jumped up from his chair and quickly carried a plate of uneaten breakfast to his room, took off his pajamas and hastily pulled on the sweatpants hanging on the chair.

- Assalamu alaikum, son.

- Wa alaikum assalam, mam.

— Why didn't you drink tea? And he didn't clean up the room. Didn't even make the bed.

Yusuf blushed.

— Okay, let's get ready.

— Where to? Yusuf asked worriedly.

— How to where? We were about to go to the park. And then to a picnic with Aunt Aisha. Holidays, after all, everyone goes somewhere, rejoices, smiles at each other.

Yusuf looked at the computer. No, he can't just pick up and leave! He didn't finish the game. After all, if he sits for another hour or two, then, perhaps, this difficult level, which he was not given in any way, will pass.

- Mom, you go, and I'll stay. Something is good for me at home today. Yes, I have a lot of lessons.

Mom looked at him with surprise.

— Are you sure you don't want to go? This doesn't look like you at all.

Yes, I'm sure. You rest, and I'll sit here.

- Good. Just warm up your soup. And don't forget about prayer.

When they left, Yusuf forgot about soup and prayer. He woke up only when his father's clock announced the beginning of the next prayer. Yusuf slapped his forehead. How is he like that? He never forgot about prayers. On the contrary, he reminded everyone in the house ...

Well, now there's nothing to be done... And he began to play on.

When the azan sounded from daddy's clock again, Yusuf went cold. He jumped up from his chair and rushed to the window. And there is. The sun disappeared behind the horizon. He missed the prayer again...

Annoyed, he sat down at the computer again. "No, I won't play anymore!" he decided to himself.

Well, maybe a little. A little bit. Complete the last level, and that's it...

Daddy's watch announced that the next prayer has begun. Yusuf clenched his fists and began to scold himself. nine0003

But how does it turn out like that? Miss three prayers in a row! This is what happens?

Just now he felt his eyes hurt. After all, he spent the whole day sitting at the computer. He went to the window. It was completely dark outside. Mom and dad should be here any minute. And he never brushed his teeth. And I didn't have breakfast. And he didn't have lunch. And I didn't drink tea. And did not read the Koran. And missed prayers. And didn't clean the room. And did not touch the lessons. And he did not go to visit Aunt Aliya, who was waiting for him so much. And he didn’t go to a picnic, where there were probably so many interesting things and he could pray with the sons of Aunt Aisha and play basketball with them. And he did not go to his uncle Abdullah, who invited him yesterday to help him fix the car. So many rewards he missed today! nine0003

He also lied to his mother about the lessons. In fact, they were given very little. He himself did not remember when he had lied to his mother at least once. And then somehow it happened by itself...

Yusuf felt very hurt. He was angry with himself. He went to his father’s table and took a bookmark on which was written: “The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:“ Haste is from Shaitan ”.

Yusuf bookmarked. He went to the computer, turned it off, and then sat on the bed and cried. nine0003

How uselessly he spent today! The day he had been waiting for two whole weeks. And all because of some nonsense, because of a stupid computer game!

His mood has completely deteriorated. His head hurt, and tears dripped onto his knees.

The key has turned in the lock. Dad came.

Yusuf first began to hastily smear tears on his face, and then lowered his hand. All the same, after all, dad will notice that he was crying. He lowered his head.

— What happened, son?

Dad looked at him carefully.

— Yes, that's okay… Where's mom?

— She called and we agreed that she would spend the night at Aunt Aisha's, and in the morning they would arrive... Can you tell me what happened? Dad suggested.

— It's all right, really…

— Then let's turn on the computer. We'll figure out what's what.

- No, no! Don't want! I already…” he stammered.

— What already? Dad didn't understand.

Yusuf lowered his head and confessed everything to his father. nine0003

“That's why I don't want a computer…” he said.

— It's a pity, of course, that this happened, — dad shook his head. You were in a hurry, you didn't wait for me. So it all went wrong, only pleased the devil, without wanting it himself ... And I wanted to show you a lot of very useful things that you can do with a computer. After all, with its help, you can listen and learn the Koran, and learn new things about Islam, and watch various useful videos, and learn languages, and learn how Muslims live in different parts of the world . .. And let's do it this way. Let these games not be on our computer, and tomorrow we will sit together and look for something useful and interesting for you so that you can watch, listen and read and that our computer is useful, not harmful. Deal? nine0003

Yusuf nodded. And from that day on, the computer only benefited him, and he always tried to obey his dad and take his time.

The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “Hurry is from Shaitan” [Tirmidhi].

Fedya and the computer - a therapeutic fairy tale. Fairy tale therapy for children

Once upon a time there was a boy named Fedya in a town. He was a wonderful boy, very kind and sympathetic. He had many friends. And everything would be fine, only one day dad brought a computer into the house. nine0127 Feda immediately liked the computer very much. He became so interested in them that he almost did not leave him. As soon as he wakes up, he immediately runs to his new friend - the computer. And he plays different games almost all day.
Parents began to worry that Fedya was so carried away by the computer that his eyesight might deteriorate from it. They tried to talk to him, but Fedya didn't want to listen to anyone!
Once, barely waking up, Fedya, as usual, sat down at the computer and started playing.
Mom called him to have breakfast, but Fedya said that he was very busy and would not eat yet. nine0127 “Go wash your face,” Mom said.
But Fedya paid no attention to her words.
Then the guys came for Fedya and invited him to play football. But he could not tear himself away from the computer and did not go for a walk. The guys were offended that Fedya had completely forgotten about them lately, and left.
So Fedya played until the very evening, until he felt that his eyes were completely tired, and his stomach was insistently asking for food. Fedya wanted to get up from the table, but could not. Some strange things began to happen to him: his hands did not obey at all, they continued to press the keys of the keyboard against Fedya's will; and even worse, his legs were numb, and Fedya could not take a step. nine0127 What to do?
Mom came, but she couldn't help. Fedya's hands still did what they wanted, but their legs could not do anything.
— How am I going to eat and play football now? cried Fedya.
Then mother called the doctor. The doctor carefully examined Fedya and gave him a pill, after which his arms and legs began to obey. And then held out a vial of vitamins.
“These are not simple vitamins, but magical ones,” Dr. Fede said. They will help you play on the computer. As soon as you want to sit down at the computer, then eat one vitamin, and nothing will happen to your arms and legs. But remember: these vitamins only work for 30 minutes. If after half an hour you do not move away from the computer, your hands will again stop obeying you, and your legs will go numb. And I can't help you anymore. nine0127 So Fedya began to do it: he ate a vitamin and played on the computer for half an hour. And then he went to do other things. At first, it was very difficult for Feda to quit the game, but he remembered about his arms and legs, about how bad it was when they did not obey, and turned off the computer.
