Volkswagen comparison New Polo vs. Lada Vesta
One of the characteristic features of the crisis period is the growing interest of domestic motorists in relatively inexpensive imported cars. One of the most popular today is representatives of the B-class of the German automaker Volkswagen - the Polo sedan, which is produced in Russia at a plant in Kaluga.
The future owner has to choose a car according to many often conflicting criteria.
We will try to compare the constantly modernized Volkswagen New Polo sedan (the last restyling of the model was in 2015) and the novelty of the domestic auto industry L*** B****.
Both opponents are very similar to each other in terms of primary parameters. Approximately the same price in the basic configuration, class "B", mechanical transmission, working volume of a 4-cylinder in-line gasoline engine 1.6 liters, nameplate power 105 - 106 hp, assembled in Russia. Gross weight "B ****" = 1630 kg, for Polo = 1660 kg, front-wheel drive. The number of differences at first glance is minimal. And yet, they are.
B**** showed good stability when driving in a straight line, it holds corners well. On broken roads, which are often found in our country, the suspension behaves perfectly and even on large potholes it does not break through to the limiter. Ground clearance - like some crossovers.
The Polo demonstrates excellent handling for all German "people's" cars, after the upgrade, the ABS, stabilization system and brakes work flawlessly on bumps and in fast corners.
Lighting fixtures
Headlights B**** perfectly perform their functions in the low beam: the light is bright enough, a pedestrian is clearly distinguished, who is on the side of the road at a distance of 65 m from the car.
Polo low beam is bright and sharp at the same time: the transition from light to shadow is very sharp, which accelerates fatigue during long drives. A pedestrian at a distance of the same 65 m is not visible at all.
The high beam of B **** and Polo can be considered equally good in terms of performing the functions assigned to it.
Accuracy of speedometers
Both competitors, without saying a word, give slightly overestimated speedometer readings relative to the true speed of movement. The difference is insignificant: 2 km / h at a true speed of 40 km / h. At a speed of 180 km / h, the absolute error increases slightly: 6 km / h for B **** and 7 km / h for Polo. That is, the accuracy of the speedometer is almost the same.
At the same time, speed control on the speedometer also saves you from speeding in the presence of road restrictions.
In this case, the relative error is even noticeably less than 5%, which is very good for automotive devices.
Handling during sharp maneuvers
The speed limit for cornering with a radius of 35 m at B**** is 70 km/h. In the case of using tires with improved grip properties, it can be increased.
Polo, even on average quality tires, feels confident at such a radius at a speed of 75 km/h, and only when it increases to 77.5 km/h does it begin to slip on all four wheels and the car cannot stay in the test corridor.
The so-called “moose test”: a sharp left turn followed by a no less sharp return to your lane (imitation of leaving a moose suddenly jumping onto the road) both cars perform almost identically with a slight superiority again in Polo. B**** met the regulations at 79.2 km/h, while the Polo did so at 81.
0 km/h.
Dynamics, braking and coasting
ThePolo is 12 km/h faster than B**** in top speed (186 km/h). This, however, is of little importance, since on the vast majority of Russian roads, driving at such a speed should be considered, at best, as not very comfortable. Up to a speed of 150 km / h, the “German” accelerates by a significant 4 s faster, although initially it loses by a meager 0.2 s when accelerating from standstill to a speed of 50 km / h.
The run-out is also better in the Polo by the already familiar 5% (from 50 km/h 662 m is achieved against 633 m for the B****). A similar situation with braking: at a speed of 100 km / h, B **** shows 43.3 m, while Polo has 41.1 m.
Trunk and passenger seats
With its 620-litre boot, B**** theoretically outperforms the competitor by 43 liters. However, the Polo trunk is noticeably more comfortable to use due to its well-thought-out shape, which is complemented by a large opening and a lower loading height.
The rear seats of the Polo and B**** are spacious enough to accommodate three adult passengers quite comfortably. Nevertheless, it is already clear that the opening with one backrest folded forward, which is required when transporting long loads in the cabin, would be nice to increase for B ****. In this sense, the Polo developers have found a more balanced solution.
Finishing, ergonomics, vibration protection and noise isolation of the cabin
The interior finish, the tactile properties of the material used and the ergonomics of the interior of the Polo should be considered, without exaggeration, outstanding for a B-class car. Against its background, B **** looks relatively good, but no more than an "average".
The Polo exterior mirrors are a bit small and definitely inferior to the B**** mirrors.
Noise in the cabin while driving is felt approximately the same in the interiors of both Polo and B ****. However, the noise environment with closed windows can be considered acceptable.
The ride and vibration protection of both cars are almost identical.
Conclusion
The above tests show that Polo unequivocally outperforms Lada Vesta in terms of the bulk of parameters, which is determined by the previously established traditions of the German automaker. Nevertheless, the advantage over Vesta turns out to be quite small (mostly no more than 5%). In fact, cars in terms of technical equipment turn out to be very, very similar.
In a situation of a small difference in technical characteristics, completely different factors begin to play a significant role. These include the personal preferences of the future owner for body shapes and colors, the availability of a conveniently located company service, the delivery time of a custom car, the rich offer of trim levels, additional packages. equipment and various accessories.
In this sense, Polo has an undeniable superiority due to proven reliability in operation on Russian roads, which Vesta has yet to prove.
