Teachers and parents are raving!
We can help you Save Time and Have Fun Teaching!
“My 8-year-old son, Miles, is on the autistic spectrum and is totally and utterly obsessed with HFT. I have the songs in my head morning and night! He waits excitedly for the next video to watch. HFT has helped my son enormously with his clarity of speech and knowledge of letters, consonants, vowels, and math skills. A BIG thank you from us all.”

“I have been incorporating Have Fun Teaching songs, music videos, lessons, and worksheets since the company first began. I believe in the vision surrounding the entire brand. Eight years ago, my students had the privilege to record their own ‘music videos’ for the owners of HFT. Those students, some who have graduated, can still remember all of the words to those songs! Every teacher and parent should be using HFT. Your kids will thank you for it!”

Meme to help! How to have fun teaching the humanities
Many adults complain that today's children have clip thinking. However, it can also be used for educational purposes! Our new blogger, teacher Viktor Bormotov, shared his life hack on how to captivate children with history or another humanitarian discipline - draw memes.
Information crushes with endless terabyte streams. In order for the brain not to develop indigestion, it is necessary to radically change the way we perceive reality. This is the revolution of millennial thinking that has taken place. The appearance of a meme is its reflection. The example is private, but very illustrative.
A meme is bright, short, understandable, multimedia and funny. It is easy to put a process, a fact, and even an entire historical epoch into it. But the textbook is boring, long, incomprehensible and not at all fun. "Many letters," as they say. Let many respected authors of manuals be offended, but this seems to me an absolute fact.
We talk about “historical processes”, “professional orientation” and some kind of “mentality”, and they (millennials) “chill”, “troll” and “roof”. They want to be simpler, more fun, clearer, and at the same time more informative. Reality is read through posts on social networks (short texts), YouTube videos (no more than 20 minutes, otherwise you can fall asleep) or TED and through memes. By the way, a lot of scientific articles have already been written on this topic. Memes are defined, classified and sorted into pieces. The essence of the research: the meme is the consciousness of modern man (at least in part). Here is the material that is worth reading on the topic.
Is the revolution of thinking good or bad—question ten. It happened, that's a fact. I think that it is not worth discussing the issue, they say, the wrong youth went, they are lazy, they don’t want to read. Boring discussion, useless! It is necessary to use the obvious advantages of those very new ways of perceiving reality.
Now I will tell you about my own practice of introducing memes into the educational process. The first thing I discovered was that it is very effective to lead to the topic under discussion from it. The teacher, instead of simply dictating it, demonstrates the meme and asks to explain its meaning. Students are not limited in opinions and versions. As a rule, all of them turn out to be far from the truth. The lesson is based on an explanation of what is actually hidden behind the "funny picture". Specific examples.
1. Subject — social science, grade 10. Subject: "Human Needs"
Obviously, in order to reveal the meaning of the meme, you need to know Maslow's theory.
2. The subject is the fundamentals of philosophy, the second year of college, technical school. Topic: "Theory of knowledge"
To explain the meaning of a meme, it is necessary to know the basic provisions of philosophical systems.
3. The subject is the history of Russia, grade 10. Subject: "The era of Peter the Great"
The meme reflects the event - the foundation of St. Petersburg (built on swamps, who does not know).
You can quickly find the appropriate meme for any section of the course. My practice convincingly shows that such a format for setting the topic of a lesson arouses interest in it and contributes to the heuristic activity of students, stimulates a serious understanding of information.
Another way to work with a meme is to create it. It is much more complex and requires more training.
Millennials have learned to consume, see humor and entertainment. However, a serious problem is independent creativity, which is possible only on the basis of studying the semantic content of reality. The consumer society in no way encourages a person to do something himself. Indeed, why? Everything is done for you. Need to make a presentation? Download on the internet. The same is true with abstracts.
I once tried to give a task to make a meme at home, but the effect was zero. In 99 cases out of 100, they were simply taken from the network. Conclusion: memes should be made exclusively in the classroom. Of course, in groups during the discussion. Such a task alone, as experience shows, is completely beyond the power. Before starting work, the teacher must give the basic material. Students can access Internet resources.
When studying in this format, students are ready to "shovel" large amounts of information, completely unusual ideas and solutions arise. Finished works can be displayed on the screen, a discussion can be held on the results. Again specific examples. From the work of the classics, so to speak.
1. The subject is the history of Russia, grade 10. Subject: "Time of Troubles"
Everything is clear without comments. Agree, it's great.
2. The subject is the history of Russia, grade 10. Subject: "The first Russian princes"
Let me remind you that Prince Igor wanted to take additional tribute from the Drevlyans. For which, according to the chronicle, he was killed.
3. The subject is the history of Russia, grade 10. Subject: "Mongol-Tatar yoke"
No comment. Well-deserved five in the magazine.
4. The subject is the history of Russia, grade 10.
Topic: "Foundation of the Old Russian State"We don't know exactly what Rurik looked like. Therefore, the students, quite legitimately, said: "We are artists and we see it that way." It was a lot of fun and most importantly, they will remember very well the fact that it is Rurik who is considered the founder of our state.
5. The subject is the history of Russia, grade 11. Subject: “USSR in the 1930s”
Yes, according to Stalin, there is a lot of political entourage in the media, but we cannot bypass the fact of repressions.
With this, in my absolute conviction, positive practice, something needs to be done in terms of formalizing the process. Experienced methodologists will say: “It’s all good, of course, it’s interesting, but for circle or extracurricular work.” Like, it is not suitable for an academically verified learning process. No and no again!
Academicism should be made non-academic. Not in content, of course, but in form
Therefore, a lot of work is needed, during which many questions arise. For example, from the first students will say: “Is it possible to use button accordions (outdated, hackneyed memes) as a basis?” Nothing funny. Bayans are already far from creativity. Most importantly, what should be the general requirements for memes in the school system? Should they be at all? Which memes are acceptable to use, and which ones are already beyond ethics and morality (there are a lot of them on the net). It is worth thinking about systematization, creating original catalogs of memes.
These are the questions I would like to call for discussion, fellow teachers. And I would like to finish with a meme of my own authorship. I was inspired to create it by my own office.
Discipline!

"Teaching the history of bloody regimes is more fun." Dmitry Bykov - about the new concept of the Ministry of Education
Eurocentrism is over - now the focus will be on the history of China, Central Asia, Africa and Latin America
Photo: Instagram
Russia is truly loved by the Lord, because no matter what tricks her authorities resort to, she unfolds everything for her own good. As Ranevskaya used to say, when a patient wants to live, medicine is powerless. Example: the Board of the Ministry of Education, together with the Russian Historical Society, approved a new concept for teaching history in secondary schools. Eurocentrism is over - now the focus will be on the history of China, Central Asia, Africa and Latin America. Academician Chubaryan (19born 31) has already noticed that this will help against Russophobia. Indeed, there was much less Russophobia in Africa and Latin America than in Europe. In some regions on these continents, Russia had no idea at all until the last century.
Why do I think this is a good deed - perhaps contrary to the intentions of the authors of the concept? It is obvious that the history of Europe and the United States in many respects is the history of parliamentarism, courts, local self-government, and all this has not taught anyone anything in Russia. On the other hand, the history of Latin America, Africa and some Asian countries is primarily the history of dictatorships, and this is informative and instructive. What do people in modern Russia know about Juan Domingo Peron? The older generation remembers, and schoolchildren - by zero. What does a modern schoolboy know about Fidel Castro, about the Bolivian dictator Suarez, about the ideological evolution of the Argentine revolutionary Che? What do they say in a modern school about Bokassa, who practiced eating ideological opponents? When Navalny is compared to Mandela, a schoolboy has to rummage through Wikipedia for a long time, and after all, Mandela is one of the symbols of the triumphant struggle for freedom, although as president he did not contribute to national reconciliation at all. A Russian schoolboy knows nothing about Robert Mugabe, but he was an interesting person, how many times he won elections with record results, he became the oldest president in the world, he could no longer walk, he read with difficulty, but all the rules! And about the fate of Cambodia, later Kampuchea, then again Cambodia, what do they tell our young contemporaries? You constantly come across the fact that the terrible words “Tuol Sleng” do not say anything to a schoolboy, and all over the world it sounds no less than “Auschwitz”.
