Where the wild things are mom

Where the Wild Mums Are by Katie Blackburn

Five stars because this is a very funny parody of Where the Wild Things Are. Mom was kind of on strike, very fed up, had enough, wanting to be her inner wild self and not 'Mom', so she escapes to where the wild moms are. And she is wilder than the wildest mom so she is Queen of the Wild Moms. But then she wimps out and instead of joining the conga line and dancing through the night she wimps out and goes home to her responsibilities. 4 star.

Seriously though, the story was good but the ending, which was meant to mirror where the little boy goes home to bed in Where Wild Things Are, just feels like back to going back to the endless grind. What I would have liked to have seen is the Mom, exhausted from a night of fun, going home refreshed and knowing that she could always go and join her friends Where the Wild Moms Are when the kiddy is in bed.

The ending was pure Mom. Mothers are people too and that side of us needs nurturing, not just a night off. Men are never expected to give up their hobbies, friends, times at the pub, football, golf, fishing etc in order to pick up the little ones from school, take them to the doctor's, pick up the dry-cleaning, buy the presents for birthday parties, do the ironing, make the lunch boxes, vacuum the carpets and all the small and boring mundane tasks a mother must fit in before going to work, at lunchtime and when she comes home. So a little more acknowledgement in this book would have elevated it from pre-feminist Mom to an acknowledgement of we need to be people to.

A mom journeys to the land of the wild and dancing moms rebelling from her responsibilities but the call of home and heart is stronger. Don’t all moms need at least a night off. A parody honoring Maurice Sendak’s Where the Wild Things Are.

I usually don’t add PBs to my Goodreads, but this one is SO perfect for me who has read Where the Wild Things Are at least 100 times in the past year. 5/5 stars!

What happens when Mum goes on strike? What happens when Mum needs a break? She turns into a wild thing!

A parody version of Where the Wild Things Are, this book was HILARIOUS! I loved it! We are driven barney by our families no matter how big or small and just need a break but when it's all said and done we love our families. We just sometimes need a little break!

This book was read to us at the Babes'n'Books program at the local library.

Sometimes I really want to go where the wild mums are for a month or 12. My mum bought me this book, intuitive woman she is, must have been able to tell the water has been right at my eyes lately. Or maybe it was just that I was so feral she always wanted to run away from me. ANYWAYS, Wild Mums is an amusing re-write of the classic kids’ tale “Where the Wild Things Are”. It made me smile and I’m sure I’ll read it again.

*Spoiler Alert* This book totally expresses how moms need breaks, the emotions felt, and the little time we should take for ourselves even if it's just with self care. I secretly think the main character may have almost died from falling asleep in the tub, but was awakened by loved ones just in time. The drawings are creepy cool. And though it's in the form of children's book I believe it will help the woman that is a Mom.

I read this book while I was at work.
Since I work at a stationary & gift store we have some interesting books. 😊 Even some really good children's book.

But I finally looked & read this one & it was funny. I loved it!
Plan to read some of the other books at my job eventually.

A fun spoof of a children's classic, holding true to the original intent and story but with a mother's twist.

A sweet and lovely adaptation on Maurice Sendak’s "Where the Wild Things Are". An homage to mothers everywhere; moms who just want a night off from the work and the worry.

In Where the Wild Moms Are a very tired mom goes on strike and heads for the bathtub for some badly needed rest and relaxation. In the tub she drifts off into a dream in which she sails away to paradise. a place where the Wild Moms are. “And when the Wild Moms saw her, they shook their magnificent heads and wiggled their magnificent hips and stamped their magnificent feet.”

You likely can imagine the rest of this story, especially if you’ve ever read Sendak’s book. None-the-less, the book is delightful and just the sort of pick-me-up that a tired mom needs to remind her that she is loved and that she is needed. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Bub looked up at mum. She didn’t get dressed and went on strike. Dad called her a wild thing. She stomped upstairs to have a bath.

She relaxed and closed her eyes. The walls faded away until she was on an island. She stepped on a yacht and sailed away to the island of wild mums.

She danced and sang along with the other wild mums. She was crowned Queen of the wild mums. She danced until she was very tired.

Then from across the seas she heard that she was needed. She wanted to be with those she loved.

Back in her bath she could see a cup of tea on the table beside the bath. She was home.

Every Mom has times when she feels exhausted, unappreciated and wanting to escape her life. During a bubble bath, this Mom dreams of getting away to a place of relaxation and fun, partying with other Moms. After some time she feels the tug of her family needing her and decides to return. Laughs and a few tears may accompany the reader.

My youngest sister wanted to read these retellings of classic kids' books to my other sister who hasn't read them. This was my least favourite of the three we had, definitely prefer the original Where the Wild Things Are.

Oh dear! Well there's 5 minutes of my life that will never be refunded! Think of Maurice Sendak and a blatant attempt at copying his book from a white bread mothers' perspective with the comical mirth of a leaden balloon and then that is giving this book too much credit. I failed to see what the purpose is except perhaps the sisterhood paying good money to perhaps tell others in the sisterhood...yeah I know, life sucks but bless their little hearts! If you want something in this genre, please consider Go The F*** To Sleep by Adam Mansbach with Ricardo Cortes (Illustrator). Less plagiarism and more relatedness for the modern day parent....hey I think my review is longer than the book!

An enjoyable take on the children's book, 'Where the Wild Things Are'. This is a light-hearted story about a mum who feels stressed out by daily life and escapes to her bathtub. She's whisked off to a magical land of dancing and drinking, until she begins to miss her family and heads back home.

I really enjoyed this, and will go back to it again and again! A sweet and refreshingly honest read.

“Where the Wild Things Are” has always been a classic children’s story, well before it hit the big screens in 2009. I think Maurice Sendak is something of the Faulkner of children’s literature; I mean, the book is basically one long sentence. But even if I didn’t think this about Sendak, “Where the Wild Things Are” would still be one of my all-time favorites.

Sendak tells a tale about a boy named Max, who runs around his house in his monster costume and causes a bit of trouble here and there. Then his mother sends him to bed without supper, and instead of just being glum in his bedroom, Max imagines that the room has transformed into a beautiful forest near an ocean. So Max sails off on that ocean through time and to another land where all the inhabitants are big monsters like him (but bigger and more monster-y). Suddenly Max realizes that these monsters listen to what he says, so he starts to command them to do things like “be still” and “let the wild rumpus start.” He becomes the king of the wild things (of course, because that’s how the progression of power works), but he is not satisfied by that (because being king is never as awesome as everyone says it will be). Even though the monsters love him, they don’t love him most of all, so he decides to leave them and return to his bedroom in his own home. Max realizes that his family (his mother, more specifically) loves him most of all, which is already a phenomenal lesson. But I am going to suggest that this book says a little more about parenting than just that. Some will say that the premise of the book (a boy being punished by his mother for causing all kinds of trouble) doesn’t shed the best light on the role of parenting. But, I think the progression of the story actually does something quite different. See, the book opens with Max playing around in the real world, wearing a silly costume and running around the house. His mother calls him “wild thing,” which appears to put him in the position of being sent to bed without dinner, but also sort of challenges his playtime entirely. Suddenly, when Max is told that he is a wild thing, he transforms from just a boy in a costume to a member of a whole crew of monsters having exciting adventures. Furthermore, while he was just running around actual rooms in a house before, he is now able to see a huge world of possibilities before him. He looks at his very bland bedroom and is now able to imagine trees and vines growing everywhere and the room becoming an entrance into a new world. And all of this is thanks to a mom who prompted him to expand his imagination beyond what was right there in front of him. And some will say, “but wait, she was starving him, wasn’t she?” But trust me, that’s not the point of the book at all, and no one is encouraging anyone to withhold food from their kids. The spoiler alert (if you haven’t read it or are just a little foggy on the details) is that she doesn’t actually keep dinner from him (while I know the threat of doing seems a little unnecessary). In fact, after encouraging him to use his imagination in a more exploratory way (and as a perk to her, without destroying stuff all over the house), she brings dinner right to him. Now that’s some good service and some good parenting.

Dwyane Wade has retired. He leaves like a king: in the last match he made a triple-double (the fifth in his career), and all this was followed from the stands by Chris Paul, Carmelo Anthony and LeBron James (the journalists call these three, along with Wade, the Banana Boat Crew). LeBron climbed into the camera when Wade was giving his last post-match interview. Fun and no tears.

Although Wade himself is shy about talking about his authority: "If someone mentions me in the list of the greatest shooting guards of all time (Jordan, Bryant, Iverson, West, Drexler, Allen), I will answer:" You are definitely talking about this guy – that snotty kid from Chicago? I instill this mindset in my son.” Applause, hugs, smiles. This is how the legends are seen off.

Wade made himself great on the floor. Now, at 37, he plans to go to a psychologist because he is mentally afraid of a new life outside of basketball.

We will remember him for more than just another NBA star. Behind a steep career is a difficult childhood and many good deeds.

Drug addict mother, life without a father

Jolinda Wade was a good student at school and tried to do well with her peers in everything. In the eighth grade, she became addicted to alcohol, later she began to smoke marijuana. At the age of 18, the girl was already married and had two children (then a son, Dwayne, appeared). But four months after his birth, the couple divorced, and Jolinda moved with her two children to her mother in a disadvantaged area of Chicago.

There was a photo or video of a social network that no longer works

The status of a single mother, poverty, pressure from society - school dependence intensified and pulled into the abyss. Jolinda not only used, but also distributed drugs. The girl invited her friends into the house to take several doses with them in front of the children: “I didn’t know how to tell them everything, but looking at them I said to myself:“ I’m sorry that I am such a person. I do not know what to do. I don't know how to get out of here."

Jolinda regularly passed out due to an overdose - the doctors pumped her out in the hospital. From a drug addict mother, little Dwyane Wade was taken to his father, where he grew up among half-siblings. His elder sister Tragil was engaged in his upbringing. When Dwayne visited his mother, she took him to the basketball court: “I was so proud looking at my boy. I was his first fan."

When the son was taken back, the mother again fell into narcotic anguish. Heroin, cocaine, she used everything she could find. Once Jolinda injected herself with an unknown substance, because of which she almost died. Saved by the doctors.

Jolinda disappeared on the streets for several months. At night, the children prayed for their mother to come back home. She was found in unknown places among garbage, feces and rats: “I still see myself in an abandoned building. With an overdose. Crawling up the rotten stairs to find a place to sleep. Pulling on some coat I found. Cat-sized rats run around me. That's where I was."

                              Jolinda Wade

                              website

Wade - sincere and sympathetic: bought his mother a church, helps ordinary people

Just watch this video. In it, various people thank Wade for his help. For some, he paid for college education, for others he became a motivation to live.

In 1994, Jolinda went to prison for possession of drugs. She experienced the most pain when she saw her son come to visit her behind the glass: “I saw the look on Dwayne's face. It said, “Why is my mother there? What's happening?". I was so angry."

Jolinda was arrested for 15 months but escaped and lived on the run for five years until her daughter Dina found her. In 2002, she returned to prison again, but saved herself through faith. Having converted to Christianity in prison, she got rid of addiction. Since then, Jolinda does not drink, smoke or use drugs. A letter from Dwayne's son gave a lot of strength: "You say that I am your hero, but in fact you are my hero."

Jolinda felt like she was letting her son down, but he never turned his back on her. “I never rejected her, I never blamed her. This is her life, this is her journey, her journey. Without it, I am not who I am today,” says Wade.

In 2003, Jolinda was released early from prison. The first thing she did was go to Milwaukee, where Dwayne led the varsity team to the finals. “I was so proud of him that day,” recalls Jolinda.

Soon he will be a Miami Heat legend.

The most touching is the mother's message: "I'm more proud of the person you've become than the basketball player."

The return of his mother to life cheered up Dwayne to the maximum. He gave her a new house and a car, but most importantly, he spent two million dollars to open a church: “It is the dream of every man, every boy, to be able to give his mother everything she wants. It was my dream, my mother also had a dream.”

Sunday morning Wade sat on the first pew in the church and looked at his mother. Dwayne often cried because of her as a child, but now they were tears of joy.

He has his own fund. Together with her sister, they help children from disadvantaged families

The foundation is called "Wade's World Foundation". As children, Dwayne and Tragil grew up in a criminal neighborhood and saw wild things on the streets: someone died during the next shooting, and someone twisted from a drug overdose near garbage cans. “One day I was taking out the garbage and I saw a body in bags - they just threw it in a container,” Wade recalls.

The Charitable Foundation is doing everything so that children from dysfunctional families do not see the horrors of life and are kept in normal conditions. By the way, Dwayne gives 10 percent of his salary to support his mother's church.

                              – He is back! 17-year-old Joaquin Oliver shouted into the phone to mom and dad when he found out that Dwyane Wade returned to the team two years after leaving the Miami Heat.

                              Who returned? parents were perplexed.

The boy cried with joy and talked about the return of the legend. Six days after that call, Joaquin and 16 others were killed in a shooting at a high school in Parkland. He was buried wearing a Dwyane Wade jersey.

Wade entered the game against Philadelphia with the name of the murdered student written on his sneakers. On the floor, the basketball player set a personal record of the season (27 points) and made the winning shot six seconds before the final siren.

“I treat people the way I want to be treated, or the way I want my children to be treated. I am aware of the position I am in. God has given me an incredible opportunity to play at this level. I understand that for many I am a role model.

The leaders of the popular Samara clothing brand Volga Mama Andrey Komzov and Vasily Rumyantsev, whose headquarters are in Syzran, within the framework of the Points of Growth project told Volga News how they imagine the future of their business in today's economic realities, is it easy to do business from a small provincial town, and what kind of state support is needed for small businesses tied to light industry.

                              — How many years has the Volga Mama brand been on the market? What is his philosophy?

                              A. K. : Our brand has been operating in Samara for ten years, since 2012. The name was born out of love for the Volga and the native land.

We produce casual, comfortable, high-quality and beautiful clothes. We do not focus on one print, we do completely different things - from mittens to jackets. We experiment a lot. Now we are even trying to produce underwear. The range in the product line is very large, and we have many strategic directions that we would like to develop.

In Samara, we have a store in the Power of Sport shopping center, in Syzran we also have our own separate point of sale. Here we sell goods not only from Volga Mama, but also domestic brands that are close to us in philosophy and spirit.

V.R. : Our philosophy is love for our native land and, of course, the creation of comfortable clothes in which you can go to work and just walk through the forests, mountains, the Volga coast.

                              - Where is your production?

                              V. R. : For the past two years, we have been sewing at our production facility in Syzran - here we have a sewing workshop, and we make about 90% of the products at our place.

For those items that we do not have the opportunity to manufacture ourselves, we turn to partners, for example, in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Ivanovo.

We try to buy raw materials in Russia, but most of the materials, of course, are brought from Turkey.

                              — How many people do you have working in the sewing shop? And is it easy to find a team in such a business today?

A.K. : Now 10 people work with us. We collected them with difficulty, since finding a seamstress in any region is a big problem. For example, if we take our city of Syzran, then local educational institutions that trained seamstresses and clothing designers have not been working in this direction for several years.

There is simply no local tailoring industry. Those young guys who graduated five years ago as seamstresses no longer want to work in their specialty. And all this together turns into a giant problem.

V.R. : We have great difficulty finding specialists who have any experience. In some cases, we train people practically from scratch, let's say, we give them a profession. This is the situation not only in the Samara region, but throughout the country.

                              — Who does the design in your team?

V.R. : We do everything together. We have a good team and we worked together. We create projects together, through disputes, trial and error. We have a lot of experimental things, we even have a huge hanger with wild ideas.

A.K. : We experiment on ourselves. We ourselves wear these wild options, and this helps to identify flaws. Then we correct it, and if everything is fine, then we release the series. The great merit of our entire team is that we keep a high standard of quality. And of course, we couldn't have done anything without these ten people who shove everything off.

V.R. : Here, by analogy, I would like to compare the work of an architect and a builder. There is a design that we want to implement, and there is a design that needs to be adjusted for the possibility of implementation. In our case, a constructor can be called a co-author of things.

                              — What teams have you already done joint projects with?

V.R. : There are a lot of collaborations. It can be said that there are so many that now it is even difficult to remember some of the brightest ones. We are negotiating with Wings of the Soviets on joint work. There were interesting creative alliances with the organizers of 404fest, with the Akron football club from Togliatti.

Commercial director of "Aurora Mall" about the future of retail in Russia

Valentina Shirinya, commercial director of the Samara shopping center "Aurora Mall", in the framework of the "Points of Growth" project, spoke in an interview with Volga News about what the current economic situation threatens large retail outlets, how brands "leave" Russia from Russia, who can replace them and whether we will have to measure jeans on cardboard again.

A.K. : We are not limited to our region, but we cooperate with various companies throughout the country. For example, we produced T-shirts together with the Moscow creative association Gazgolder, we also worked with Vladimir Mineev from Ulyanovsk, who is engaged in martial arts, and with illustrator Petr Sklyar. We are invited by football clubs. We even have a project with the management of the stadium in Nizhny Novgorod, where the 2018 FIFA World Cup was held.

                              — How has the current economic situation affected your business?

V.R. : We depend a lot on the exchange rate, because we use materials for production that must be bought for dollars. Accordingly, due to exchange rate fluctuations, the cost of our things is growing. For now, we are trying by hook or by crook to contain the price increase, but sooner or later the price increase will be inevitable.

A.K. : We are forced to adapt to the changing situation. And the fact that the market is freed from competitors is, of course, a plus.

                              — We are now considering initiatives to support small and medium-sized businesses — tax holidays, concessional loans… How can the state really support a business like yours?

А.К. : As far as we know, light industry is not affected much by the support measures already taken. But, of course, we will use all possible concessions and options to reduce the cost of our products. The best state support would be the restoration of light industry, so that it would be possible to purchase raw materials in Russia, and not abroad.

We buy all raw materials not in Russia, not because we are so unpatriotic, but because we simply have no choice. In addition, this is not a matter of one year.

V.R. : The niche has been destroyed in all directions: now it is not at the zero threshold, but simply in the extreme minus. Because a little more, and there will simply be no specialists capable of teaching. But we must also understand that, for example, the education of a "seamstress" is not exactly what our production specifically needs. After all, what are they being taught? It is more like tailoring some form for military defense. But we still have things of a completely different quality with the use of other technologies. One way or another, almost everyone has to be retrained.

                              - The governor often talks about your brand and sets your business as an example. How did you manage to win such a serious influencer?

                              V. R. : I think it's because we have been operating steadily in the market since 2012 and we produce quality products. All this is the result of our responsible work. We do what we think is right and we are responsible for our products. Perhaps this attitude attracts attention.

                              — How has the "pandemic crisis" affected your business?

A.K. : The market just changed a little - sales went from offline stores to online. Due to the fact that we are represented both there and there, our market has been redistributed. The number of buyers has not decreased, maybe even increased, because the geography of online sales is much wider than in offline stores.

V.R. : We work for the whole of Russia. By 2019, we had approximately nine points of sale across the country. But with the pandemic, we have focused on the site - orders come here from all over the world: from Belarus to the United States.

                              — Do you think that due to the fact that this year, apparently, the majority will travel within the country and not go abroad, and due to the fact that large foreign fashion networks have closed, will you become more popular?

A.K. : We hope that finally our citizens will stop looking beyond the borders of our country and pay attention to it itself, including us. They will understand that, in addition to ZARA and H&M, there are domestic quality brands.

V.R. : Here it is necessary to clarify that we are not a travel brand, but a casual wear brand. The travel story greatly narrows the audience and downplays the brand. Our product line is much wider than the topic of tourism. We plan to open new stores in cities such as Kazan, Nizhny Novgorod, Kostroma and others. And at the moment we are looking for partners.

                              - Your company is based in Syzran, which breaks the mold a little about striving for the capital. Is it convenient to do business from a small provincial town?

V.R. : There are pluses and minuses. The advantages are that here you can do everything more economically, taking into account a certain personal resource (in terms of premises, warehouses, and so on). The downside is that there is a very small labor and recruitment market, and there are also logistical nuances.

                              - Syzran is a city that is known all over the country for some reason from an ironic side.
