Rare Earth: Get Ready - Classic Motown

Who: Rare Earth.

What: The debut album by Motown’s most successful rock band, released in August 1969 on the company’s new rock label – which was named after them.

When: The title track was released February 18, 1970 as a single and entered the Billboard Hot 100 the following month, rockin’ its way into the Top 5 by June – when the long-player was also in the Top 5 of the magazine’s soul charts. Written by Smokey Robinson, “Get Ready” was first a hit for the Temptations, in 1966. Rare Earth, who were then known in and around Detroit as the Sunliners, added the song to their concert setlist that same year.

Where: Rare Earth put their album together quickly in the Motown studio on West Grand Boulevard, recording from 2am to 8am for five nights in June 1969. In addition to “Get Ready,” they cut versions of Traffic’s “Feelin’ Alright” and of “Tobacco Road,” a John D, Loudermilk number which originally began life as a country tune. “We had so many great songs that it was hard to pick the ones to record,” recalled Rare Earth lead singer/drummer Pete Rivera in his autobiography, Born To Wander.

Why: “We had always gotten a really strong crowd response from it,” Rivera added about “Get Ready,” but noted that their rock rendering was “decidedly different” from the Temptations original. “It seemed to appeal to both white and black audiences on so many levels.” It also required no more than two takes in the studio. “About four minutes into the first take, we screwed up and started again,” he wrote. “When a song is 21 minutes long, you usually don’t take it again for a while.” (For more on Rare Earth, read here.)

What else: That 21-minute marathon occupied all of the second side of the album. But it didn’t attract much attention until Motown released a three-minute edit as a single, when R&B radio stations in several cities began playing it. “The brothers and sisters loved the tune,” recalled Rivera. “Motown promotion men had no trouble getting it on R&B radio.” Months earlier, when Get Ready was released, the record company pressed up the first 5,000 vinyl copies with a die-cut, semi-circular LP jacket.

Do you want to be a foster parent? Get ready!

For many years I have been asked the same question: why should those who are going to take a child into a family go through training? After all, it is a natural human activity to have children of your own!

I answer. This is certainly necessary for every person who decides to accept someone else's child into his family. I explain why.

First, the law requires it. Since 2012, this has been included in the Family Code, and training has become mandatory. The program was prepared by many specialists, including your obedient servant, who had a hand in the legal block of this preparation. Believe me, this is necessary, if only because raising adopted children is a completely different story than raising your own children. Well, it's not just about education.

You will encounter many things that you simply cannot face when raising your own child. For example, you will inevitably meet with the guardianship authority. In ordinary life, in most cases, it does not meet on your way, and you will never know what wonderful people work there. But not right now.

Even if you have raised several children of your own before, you have not encountered adopted children. This is completely different. The person who gets into your family was not born by you, brought up for the first years or even days, but still not by you, it is not at all what you expect. Sometimes you don't even know what's in it. Therefore, raising a child in a foster family is a completely different activity than raising one's own. To do this, a person requires slightly different qualities than for raising his own child.

Recognizing problems in advance and learning how to solve them - that's what the school of foster parents will talk about. At any foster parent school.

As a lawyer, I can say that the most significant change in your life is in legal terms. In particular, you will have relationships that do not occur in ordinary life. A body of guardianship and guardianship will definitely come to your family, and its employees will look at what kind of a good or not very adoptive parent you are, and even more so what kind of guardian you are. Before that, you have not met with such an attitude of state bodies towards you. Nobody came to your apartment. Your home is your castle, and now not quite.

Guardians will definitely meet with such a thing as a guardian's report. It is unlikely, if you are not an accountant, of course, you filled out something similar in ordinary life. There is nothing particularly difficult about this, but nevertheless, the skill still needs to be obtained.

And those who choose a foster family for the form of placement of a child will generally be faced with the fact that they need to read a rather large and quite rare in ordinary life agreement on a foster family, which will indicate your rights and obligations, about which you even did not suspect. So, most often it is in this place that problems occur, people simply do not read what they sign. They are given some pack of paper, some set of statements and they say: “Put your signatures”. Well, they bet, at the same time filling in the missing places in these forms with their personal data. And then people come to a lawyer and a lawyer and say that they did not even realize that they signed up for the fact that every 30 days they have to call the guardianship and tell them where they are.

Such things are often included in contracts, for example, you cannot go on vacation for more than 90 days. Why 90 days? Why can't you leave? Why does this require permission from the guardianship authority? Nevertheless, citizens sign it and, therefore, must comply. I recorded a separate video about this and those who want can watch it and find out what the foster family agreement is, but for those who are just getting involved in this matter, my advice to you: please take a copy of the agreement and go with it to lawyer.

Adoption is a separate song. This song is sung in chorus by the prosecutor, guardianship officer, secretary, the participant himself, and in some cases even the child himself. They sing it in court and sing it in a special way. Of course, I'm almost joking, but without a lawyer in court, in my deep conviction, there is nothing to do. And even in such a “simple” case as adoption, even more so.

It seems simple only to those people who do not understand the issue. After all, adoption is a very important decision in your life. It fundamentally changes all legal relations in your family and the legal relations of the child. And here, if there is any mistake, it can backfire in many, many years. Therefore, the first time you need to do well. Fixes sometimes just don't work. Well, a person forgot to ask to be entered as a parent in the child's birth record - and that's it, they won't enter it! Never! Not today, not later. So you will carry with you a birth certificate, where some incomprehensible woman is written, and an adoption certificate, where you are already entered. Do you need it?

But let's get back to the school of foster parents, to the preparation. It is mandatory, I have already spoken about it. Not everything required is always bad. At a minimum, you will be able to understand whether this is what you are getting into, you and your spouse. By the way, dads, dear men, be sure to go to the school of foster parents, be sure to attend classes. Many, many, many new things to learn. And, of course, many things about how to be a father in a foster family, your wife simply will not give you the opportunity to understand or feel. This is your task. Go through it yourself.

Well, from experience I can say that many women are quite calm about the legal component of the moment, believing that, in guardianship, they will tell you what to fill in there, and any tenth grader is able to fill out an application. It seems to me that the duty to follow the legal cleanliness of the moment is the male part of the work of accepting a child into a foster family.

You need a foster parent school if you are thinking about adopting someone else's child into your family. It doesn’t matter if he is a distant relative to you, or you still don’t know who you will take into the family, without fail, and not only according to the law, but also because there is a lot of new and a lot of interesting things. If you want, enroll in our school of foster parents, or if you want, enroll in any other school and take the opportunity to get the necessary competencies for free. By the way, it is absolutely not necessary to take a child into a family after the school of foster parents. Almost a quarter of people do not do this, realizing that this is not quite what they expected.

There are many ways to help children. In any case, it’s better to go through the school of foster parents and not take a child than to do the opposite and regret it almost all your life. Serious business. Come.

Through the law comes the knowledge of sin. (Rom 3:20)

I have known sin in no other way than through the law. (Rom 7:7)

The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Rom 6:23)

“How can you do the will of God…”

How can you do the will of God,
When you don't even know it?
How can you please the God of Truth,
When you do not study Scripture?


You can't entrust your salvation to
The same as all of us, mortal people.
You must study the Scriptures yourself,
Otherwise there will be no justification.


The Bible is now available to all of us,
But who seeks in it the will of the God of Truth?
You were carried away today by decay,
But God's retribution will strike tomorrow.


The Savior will not delay and will come.
Know the Love of Christ and the Will of God!
Find the Creator in the Scriptures, folks,
You can't be saved without this!

All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be perfect, prepared for every good work. (2 Tim 3:16-17)

So, do not be foolish, but know what the will of God is. (Eph 5:17)

He is Life and Love, He is the Source of everything.
Start flipping pages with Him for days
And now hold on unceasingly to Him.


Look at Jesus in humility with faith,
Ask God to cleanse your heart
And always remain in communion with Heaven,
For the sake of the Son, offer prayers to the Father.


For the sake of the Son, the All-Seeing God hears us,
For the sake of the Son He gives forgiveness to people.
For the sake of the Son, He will enter into the Heavenly Hall
All those who open their hearts in prayer.


There is no salvation without Christ, come to Him,
Believe in Boundless Love as soon as possible,
