Dalmatian

Dalmatians are possibly the most famous spotted dog.

The Dalmatian is the most famous spotted dog breed on this list. This pup is the star of Disney’s 101 Dalmatians and is well known as the firefighter’s mascot. Dalmatians have short white coats with black spots. There is a possibility for Dalmatians to carry a blue-eyed gene, but this usually results in them being deaf. They are not initially born with black spots. They are born with white coats, and their spots develop over the first 3-4 months.

Dalmatians are not recommended for first-time dog owners.  They have a stubborn streak, and this can be difficult to manage when you have a dog that weighs up to 80 pounds when they are fully grown. They also have high energy levels, so you’ll likely want a larger yard if you bring one home. If you do do not exercise them daily, they can become destructive, which results in

Cocker Spaniel

Cocker Spaniels will very often carry brown spots on their coat.

The Cocker Spaniel is a popular spotted pup! While Cocker Spaniels are most widely portrayed as having a golden-colored coat, they actually quite commonly have spots. Cocker Spaniels have longer coats, and the typical spot formations are Cockers with white coats and either golden spots, or black spots.

Cocker Spaniels are great for just about any type of family. They do great with kids, and other dogs. They have been known to become slightly territorial if not socialized properly when they are puppies. While they are active as puppies, they are not overly energetic as they move into adulthood. Overall, these spotted pups make excellent family companions.

English Springer Spaniel

The English Springer Spaniel will usually have spots throughout their coats.

The English Springer Spaniel is another spotted pup that has a lengthy history. These pups have medium length curly coats. Common colors include brown & white with brown spots, and black & white with black spots. Because their hair is medium length and can get quite long, you’ll want to plan for above-average grooming requirements. These pups will need to be brushed regularly to keep their hair from taking over your home.

Springer Spaniels are highly active dogs. They are a hunting breed, so they are used to being outdoors in their element. English Springer Spaniels were originally founded in England during the 1800s as a breed, and have a history as a steadfast hunting companion. They are medium-sized pups that weigh about 40-50 pounds. You’ll likely want a yard, or at least have the ability to exercise them regularly.

Catahoula Leopard Dog

The Catahoula Leopard Dog is another unique breed with lots of spots!

The Catahoula Leopard dog is a spotted breed that has a widely varied coat color. Catahoulas can be white with black spots, grey with black spots, and a whole lot of other colors in between. They also commonly have blue eyes or heterochromia which are two different colored eyes. Catahoulas also have short coats that are very dense. They shed regularly so semi-weekly grooming is recommended to keep shedding down.

Catahoulas require a strong owner as they can be a dominant breed. They are active and can be used as both watchdogs and guard dogs. Because of their guarding nature, early socialization is key. And, because of their energy levels, a larger yard is usually recommended if you intend to bring home a Catahoula.

German Shorthaired Pointer

The GSP is another breed most people think of when they research dogs with spots.

The German Shorthaired pointer is a spotted dog breed that’s probably as much associated with spots as the Dalmatian. This hunting breed is one of the 10 most popular dogs in the United States. They have very short coats, and are not notorious for shedding. GSP’s are typically brown, or brown with a white coat and dense brown spots. Shedding is minimal compared to other fluffier dog breeds.

Australian Shepherd

Aussies usually have spots, no matter their coat color.

The Aussie is another cherished breed, with many variations of a spotted coat. These fluffy pups have medium-length coats, and are also notorious for shedding. You’ll want to have bi-weekly brushing sessions to keep hair down to a minimum. Australian Shepherds can have a number of different spotted coats. Usually, you’ll see some mix of brown and white, or merle, which is brown, black and white.

Aussies are notoriously energetic. If you plan on bringing one home, it’s recommended that you have enough time to spend exercising them daily. We recommend at least 60 minutes of exercise for young Aussies to get tuckered out. Having a yard is good for this breed, but because of their size, apartment life is fine provided you get them outdoors daily.

The German Shorthaired Pointer has the same activity level as a field Labrador. They are energetic and are slightly smaller than the Labrador Retriever. They were bred for hunting, and make steadfast fowl hunting companions. While they can survive in an apartment with adequate exercise, it’s recommended that you have a home with a yard if you intend to welcome a GSP into your family.

Australian Cattle Dog

The Australian Cattle dog has lots of spots.

Often mistaken for the Aussie, the Australian Cattle dog is a shepherding breed that can have a spotted coat. The Australian Cattle Dog is a notorious shedder, so you’ll need weekly brushing sessions to keep hair out of your home.  These pups have a unique salt-and-pepper coat, with tinges of tan mixed throughout. Their spots are black, and can sometimes carry smaller white patches on their body. Their coats can also be white and tan, with different spotting combinations as well.

These little pups are extremely active and have energy levels that rival the Border Collie. They were bred for similar purposes, and do better with room to roam. This breed can survive in smaller homes or apartments though, provided they have an adequate 60 minutes of exercise every day.

Brittany Spaniel

The Brittany Spaniel is another breed that’s likely to have a muzzle full of spots.

The Brittany Spaniel is another medium-sized hunting dog with spots. These pups originated in France sometime in the 17th century. Brittany Spaniels have variations of white and brown coats. The brown portion of their coats will show up as spots, with some spots being much larger than others. Their coats are medium length, and they shed frequently during the early summer months when blowing their coat.

Brittany Spaniels have a ton of energy! Because of their hunting genes, they like to be active and will need a minimum of 60 minutes outside each day to ensure they don’t become destructive. The Brittany Spaniel is a very easy dog to train, rivaling other sporting dog breeds.

They are generally friendly with strangers and are eager to please their owners. They also make great family pets. The Brittany Spaniel is commonly confused with their more American breeding lines, which is just called the Brittany.

English Setter

The English Setter is another dog breed that’s known to have lots of spots, both brown or black!

The English Setter is a hunting breed that has been around for centuries. A perfect waterfowl hunting companion, the English Setter also has a spotted medium to longer length coat. Their coat color can vary, with the most common being a white base, and either brown or black spots. These pups shed, and they have long hair. You’ll want to make sure you are brushing your pup daily, and grooming them at least a few times per month.

The English Setter is generally easy-going, and eager to please their owners. They get a long well with other pets. They do have a high prey drive, so training from a young age is essential. The English Setter is a great family dog that does well with Children. Because of their exercise and activity needs, we recommend having a home that has a yard if you intend to welcome an English Setter into your family.

Bluetick Coonhound

If you own a Bluetick Coonhound, your pup will likely have some spots.

Bluetick Coonhounds are spotty coated hunting dogs that are known for their keen sense of smell. Coonhounds don’t shed as much as some of the other breeds on this list. Their coats are shorter, and lower maintenance. Generally, the Bluetick will have a white, black and tan coat. Most of their spots appear on the white portions of their body in either black or brown coloring.

Bluetick Coonhounds are very energetic. While they can do ok in a smaller living space like an apartment, we do recommend a home with a backyard. These pups are medium to large-sized dogs, and can be stubborn when training. We recommend more experienced dog owners look to the Coonhound as their first pet. Bluetick Coonhounds will get along with most household animals if introduced to them early. They do have a tendency to chase due to having a high prey drive.

Border Collie

The Border Collie is one of the more energetic spotted breeds!

Border Collies are an energetic favorite with a spotted coat. They can have a variety of different coat colors, which will range from white, to black and white, tan, and blue merle.  Any of their color combinations can have a spotted coat. Border Collies are famous for their longer beautiful hair and intelligent nature. They do shed fairly aggressively, so you’ll want to make sure you are up for daily brushing and weekly grooming to keep hair away.

Borde Collies are working dogs. They can do just as well on the farm as they can in an apartment, provided they are exercised regularly. Border Collies need at least 60 minutes of exercise each day. They make the perfect training companion for Agility work, and just being a good family dog. They are also one of the top breeds that seem to get mixed with other purebreds. Overall, the Border Collie is one of the better breeds for families if you can keep up with their energy levels.

Corgi

Merle Corgis will most likely come along with a spotty coat.

Both Pembroke and Cardigan Welsh Corgis can have spotted coats. These pups have a medium-length coat, and can come in a variety of different colors. Spots will appear on any of their color combinations and are more popular with the blue merle coat color combination. Corgis need regular grooming, and will definitely shed more than other breeds on this list.

Corgis are full of energy when they are younger, but tend to cool down when they get older. They are quirky and are famous for their adorable tails. Corgis can survive just fine in an apartment. Even though they are technically a working breed, they typically only need 30 to 45 minutes of daily exercise to curb destructive behavior. They are just as likely to cuddle up in your lap as they are to want to go for a run.

Great Pyrenees

It’s quite possible for the Great Pyrenees to carry spots on their coats.

The Great Pyrenees also known as the Pyrenean Mastiff, is a breed that is more well known for having a white coat. They can, however, also have a white coat with black spots. They have long hair, and require extensive grooming to keep shedding to a minimum. If you have dark-colored furniture, expect your Pyrenees to leave behind a little piece of themselves pretty much everywhere they go.

They Great Pyrenees is a strong-willed and stubborn breed. Because they descend from the Molosser, they can get quite large. Due to their hard-headedness and their enjoyment of being in the field, it’s not recommended that the Great Pyrenees is a dog for first-time dog owners. You will need to be firm and consistent with training if you decide to bring one home. They do make great family dogs, and are gentle with children.

Jack Russell Terrier

The Jack Russell Terrier is also known to have spots on their body or face.

The Jack Russell Terrier is a small spotted dog breed. Their coats are usually a white base, with some types of tan spots through the body and on the head. They can have varying sizes of spots, and have relatively short coats. While the Jack Russell Terrier sheds more frequently in shedding season, their grooming needs are a little more low-key due to their shorter hair.

The Jack Russell Terrier is one of the  smartest dog breeds. They are easily trained, but can also be a bit stubborn at times. It’s recommended you start training your JRT early, so they learn basic obedience commands. The JRT gets along well with most other dogs as long as they are socialized early. They also love to cuddle, and make fantastic family companions.

Great Dane

Harlequin Great Danes will usually always have spots.

Great Danes can carry spots on any color coat. It’s most common on white Great Danes, or those with merle-colored coats. Spots can range in color but are generally grey or black against a white coat. Great Danes do shed, but not excessively. They will need regular grooming during their shedding season to keep their excess hair off your couch. Their shorter coats make regular brushing relatively easy, and they do not really need to be de-shed.

The Great Dane is a couch potato and can do well even in an apartment with as little as 30 minutes of daily exercise. They can be more difficult to train, as the breed can be quite stubborn. These gentle giants can get upwards of 130 pounds, so they are not recommended for first-time dog owners that may not have experience with giant breeds.

Beagle

Beagles are another breed that can have spots on their back, paws or face.

Beagles are another breed that has plenty of spots. Their spots are usually brown and appear on the white parts of their coat. Some Beagles have “ticking”, a pattern of colored hair that shows up as tiny spots of colored hair inside an area that would otherwise be white.  Beagle coats are shorter, and their shedding is on the lower end. Their coats are short, dense and should be groomed weekly to keep shedding to a minimum.

Beagles are one of the most popular family dogs in the United States. Due to their gentle nature, and keen noses, they can serve as both hunting companions and basic family pets. Beagles do well with other dogs and kids. Their size makes them easy to manage, and they can live just fine in smaller living spaces. Beagles need about 30 minutes of exercise each day to keep them out of mischief.

Chihuahua

Chihuahuas are one of the smallest spotted dog breeds on our list.

Chihuahuas are the smallest spotted breed on our list, with any color of coat having the ability to carry some spots. No matter the color of the Chihuahua’s skin, each coat color has a potential for a chihuahua to have spots. Their coats are short, and their grooming needs are pretty minimal. Both the Deer Head and Apple Headed Chihuahuas have the ability to have spotted coats. They will need weekly brushing and don’t shed much, even during the shedding season.

Chihuahuas are loud and protective. They make good watchdogs, as they will alert their owners to any potential dangers that may arise. Because Chihuahuas are smaller, they are easier to manage when it comes to training. They can absolutely be stubborn though, so if you own a Chihuahua, be prepared to train them early. Chihuahuas are one of the more aggressive dog breeds, and not because it’s in their nature. Because they are small, aggressive behavior often goes unchecked. This can become a problem when interacting with other dogs. Chihuahuas can make great family pets though, provided they are trained and socialized early in their lives.

American Bulldog

The American Bulldog can carry spots on it’s head, body or paws.

American Bulldogs are often seen with spots, but usually only when they have a white coat. Spots can range in color, but black is the most common, followed by brown. It’s possible to have a black American Bulldog with white spots, but these are very uncommon. Usually American Bulldogs have shorter coats, and their grooming requirements are not as needy as other breeds.

American Bulldogs are strong-headed and very strong-willed. They are not recommended for first-time dog owners. These pups are often considered the same breed as a Pitbull, although they aren’t. This is a powerful breed, and not training them properly as puppies can result in behavior problems as they age. They are also destructive if not exercised adequately, so it’s recommended that you at least have a home with a small yard if you plan to adopt one of these pups.

Dogo Argentino

While Dogos typically have white coats, it’s not uncommon to have black spots on their body, face, or paws.

Another breed that’s compared to the Pitbull, Dogo Argentinos are usually completely white. But they can bring in black spots into their coats from time to time. Dogos have short hair, and don’t require much grooming or maintenance at all. They do shed their coats during the early summer season, but weekly brushing is usually sufficient. Dogos will not have any other color combination with regards to spots on their coat.

Dogo Argentinos are very strong-willed dogs. Like the American Bulldog or the Pitbull, the Dogo Argentino is not recommended for first-time dog owners. These pups are large, with some weighing 90 pounds or more. Due to their strong will and guardian instincts, it’s recommended that owners have experience handling stubborn breeds. Once properly trained, the Dogo can make a great family companion or home protector.

English Bulldog

The English Bulldog will almost always have a coat with some spots.

English Bulldogs are one of the oldest spotted dog breeds. These pups have short spotty coats, and usually it’s with a white base coat. Spots show up in the colors of tan, black, or brindle colored spots. The English Bulldog has a short coat, and their grooming requirements are pretty minimal. It’s recommended that you brush them weekly, especially during early summer when they shed their winter coats.

The English Bulldog is very stubborn. Because of the way they look, they are often associated with being less intelligent than other breeds. Quite the contrary though. They might not comply with commands or it may take multiple training sessions to master a basic obedience lesson, but this is often not because they are less intelligent. They are highly independent breeds, and will often not listen, even if they understand their commands. For this reason, English Bulldogs aren’t recommended for first-time dog owners.

Staffordshire Terrier

It’s quite possible to have a spotty Staffordshire Terrier.

Staffordshire Terriers are one of the four different breeds referred to as Pitbulls. The American Pitbull Terrier would also be considered a spotted dog breed on this list, but since they aren’t an official AKC breed, the Staffordshire Terrier takes their place. Spots can vary in color, but like the English Bulldog, common spotted coat colors are typically white with either tan or black spots. They have short coats, and grooming requirements are less needy than other breeds.

Similar to the Dogo Argentio, the Staffordshire Terrier is stubborn. They are highly trainable and active though. They enjoy learning new tricks and basic obedience commands. We recommend that you have a decent-sized yard if you own a Staffy, or can at least take them for walks on a daily basis. Staffordshire Terriers need about 45 minutes of exercise each day, and can make great family companions if trained effectively.

Wirehaired Pointing Griffon

The Wirehaired Pointing Griffon is an excellent hunting dog, with a wiry, spotted coat.

A fantastic hunting dog, the Wirehaired Pointing Griffon is known as the Griffon, or “Griff” for short. These canine companions are one of the most popular hunting dog breeds in the canine kingdom. They are an extremely active breed, and some would say that their activity levels rival the Labrador Retriever, especially as puppies.

The Griffon’s coat is short and wiry. Many hunters elect to keep their Griff’s coat on the shorter side, since it’s less likely to collect burs, thorns, and thistles when out in the brush. This breed is medium to large in size, and will weigh up to 70 pounds, depending on their parents. Their wiry coats are typically white, or brown, and have some different spotting variations within them. These pups are also excellent family companions, if you have the energy to keep up with them.

Final Thoughts

No matter which dog breed you choose, any of the spotted dog breeds above can make a great family pet if properly trained. Spotted dogs come in all shapes and sizes. While there are many Purebred spotted dog breeds, there are also many mixes that carry their parent’s spotted genes.

As always, we recommend you adopt before you shop! Make sure to look at local rescues and shelters before heading out to find your very own speckled friend to add to your family!

30 Spotted Dog Breeds (With Pictures!)

Spotted dogs are one of the most popular types of dog — and with good reason. There’s something so cute and unique about their individual markings. The combination of colors, the pattern, and the breed all make them so special. Some have small or big spots and some have little specks on a more dominant coat color.

Whichever spotted dog breed is your favorite, it’s important to think about a few other things before getting any dog. Not just their markings and color. Their exercise needs, temperament, and training requirements are all much more important than if they are a dog breed with freckles or not!

So, what are some examples of spotted dogs?

Dalmatian

Of course they had to be first! Ever since Disney introduced these black and white spotted dogs onto our screens, humans have had a particular love for these pups.

Dalmatians are fun-loving, extremely playful, and have a lot of energy. They make great pets and are fiercely loyal to their human companions. Due to their high energy levels, they need a fair bit of exercising and a good amount of space for them to play in.

They’re not recommended for first-time dog owners as they can be a bit stubborn and need training to keep their energy levels under control.

German Shorthaired Pointer

German Shorthaired Pointers were first bred in the early 1800s. This was after years of German breeders attempting to breed the perfect bird dog.

What they got was an intelligent, active, and caring dog that continues to win hunting competitions today. Not only are they champions but they’re also great family pets.

These noble doggos respond best to positive reinforcement and can be a little sensitive. They need lots of time outdoors, off-lead, exploring.

They’re made for hours of hunting in the fields and don’t like to be stuck indoors entertaining themselves. If you're thinking about adopting a German Shorthaired Pointer, you'll need to be prepared to take them swimming, running, and on walks.

German Shorthaired Pointers have seven standard colors. Both patched and ticked are acceptable markings. These spotted dogs may have large patches of a color (often liver) or smaller ticked areas.

English Setter

This is one of the best dog breeds with spots for any family. They’re a hunting breed with a medium to long coat length that is normally white with brown or black spots. English Setters are also big shedders, so grooming and brushing are essential if you want to keep your furniture and clothes fuzz-free.

These speckled and spotted dogs naturally have a high prey-drive, so you’ll need to train them well from a young age. They have high energy levels and need daily vigorous exercise

Great Dane

These enormous, gentle giants can be impressive black and white spotted dogs. Their fur is short and doesn’t shed too much (not like other spotted dogs!). Spots are most common on white or merle Great Danes.

They can be quite stubborn pups, so consistent training when young is a must. Due to them being so big dogs, they’re not recommended for first-time dog owners.

English Springer Spaniel

These spotted Spaniels are easily recognizable by their adorably fluffy, long ears. English Springer Spaniels are most commonly white with large and small black or brown spots. They quite often look like they have freckles on their nose!

These medium-sized dogs with spots make wonderful pets. Originally hunting dogs, they need a lot of exercise and have a lot of energy. Because their fur is medium length, they need a lot of grooming and brushing to avoid tangles and mats.

American Hairless Terrier

These unusual-looking dogs are tenacious, confident, affectionate, and curious little pups.

Genetically, they're very closely related to the Rat Terrier. They’re the only hairless breed native to the United States and were actually born ‘by mistake” to a litter of coated Rat Terriers.

They were further bred to become the American Hairless Terrier. Despite their name, they can be coated too.

They may not be the obvious choice when it comes to spotted dogs. But there are many colors and markings accepted by kennel clubs for this breed.

They can have small black, white, and tan spots on their skin or even have piebald markings too (large patches of different colors).

American Hairless Terriers are very alert and need to be trained and socialized from a young age if they’re not to become too independent.

Chinese Crested

The Chinese Crested is another (mainly) hairless dog that’s certainly unmistakable.

These pups have smooth, pink-spotted bodies with a fluffy hairdo, feet, and tail. Experts don’t know a lot about the origin of these ancient dogs. However, according to the AKC, they’re descendants of large, hairless dogs brought to China from Africa.

This iconic breed can be many different colors. These include apricot, black, blue, and chocolate. They can also have white and spotted markings.

These pups are very affectionate to those they know (both humans and furry) but can be wary around strangers.

Socialization is crucial if they’re not to become too anxious. Chinese Crested dogs are agile but don’t expect them to want to go out for long walks.

They’re quite happy relaxing at home and occasionally chasing after a ball. Exercise is, however, important for their mental and physical health.

Cocker Spaniel

Cocker Spaniels have a beautiful, feathered coat that comes in an array of colors. Reddish-brown, black, gold and brown are all possibilities. Just like other spotted Spaniels, it’s common for them to have a mixture of colors as well as spots that look like freckles.

They’re a wonderful spotty dog breed for families with children or older relatives and are incredibly loyal. They love to be around people and play. Because they’re so keen, they can occasionally be a little clingy. Just like other Spaniels, they need regular grooming to keep their fur looking its best!

Australian Shepherd

Australian Shepherds are a gorgeous spotted breed. They’re very intelligent and love to be put to work (whether that’s catching their favorite ball or rounding up a herd of sheep)!

As they’re working dogs, they need a lot of exercise and entertainment but make great family pets if you can keep up with them!

These are a very fluffy spotted breed of dog and they come in many different colors. When it comes to spots, the most common are blue merle, red merle, black, brown, and white. Or sometimes a mixture!

They have beautiful coats but regular brushing and grooming is a must.

Australian Cattle Dog

As their name might suggest, these pooches are hard-working dogs, bred to herd cattle. They’re strong, athletic, and need a lot of exercise and mental stimulation.

Australian Cattle dogs are strong-willed and can have a bit of a nip — meaning they need firm training and leadership. They’re friendly with young children and other pets if they’ve been brought up together with a strong owner.

Their spotting combinations can be white and tan or black with white speckles. They shed quite a lot too, so brushing is a good idea with these dogs!

Bluetick Coonhound

Known for their unique and recognizable coat, these black and white spotted dogs actually get their name from their dark and speckled fur. They have wonderfully long ears and a coat that can have black, white, and tan little spots.

They’re very energetic, meaning they need space to roam and plenty of walks. Being hunting dogs, they also have a high prey-drive — so keep an eye on them when you’re out!

These spotty dogs aren’t recommended for first-timers as they can be pretty stubborn to train and have a mind of their own!

Pyrenean Mastiff

Despite their looks and size, these amazingly fluffy pups are wonderfully gentle and good-natured. They have thick and heavy fur which is normally white with big (shock!) gray, black or brown spots. Their fur is perfect for keeping them warm in colder climates.

Pyrenean Mastiffs are a guardian breed, originally bred to protect sheep from wolves and thieves, so these spotty dogs can make wonderful family dogs. They protect their humans, are friendly, and only use their dominant size when there’s really a threat.

Watch out for their drool though!

Corgi

These royal spotted dogs are so cute — just look at those little legs! Corgis are very trainable and love to be part of a family.

They respond well to rewards and love to please their humans. When they’re young they have high energy levels, but as they get a bit older they’re more than happy to sit on the sofa and watch a bit of television.

Their coats can be long-haired or shorter and a mixture of many different colors including, black, tan, red, brown, gray, and white. Spots are most common on blue merle coats. Just like Border Collies, Corgis are year-round shedders and need regular grooming.

Brittany

Sometimes called Brittany Spaniels, these pups are more like Pointers or Setters than spotted Spaniels.

They’re sensitive, intelligent, and make great family pets — if you can keep up with their need for exercise and high energy levels! They’re loyal to their family unless there’s a bird around and then they’re easily distracted!

Their hair is midlength, and normally white with orange or liver spots. They shed a lot just before summer, so brushing in these months is important!

Jack Russell Terrier

Jack Russell Terriers are really popular, small spotted dogs that are incredibly clever.

They’re great at learning new tricks and are constantly aware of their surroundings. Because of their hunting genes, they can be a little feisty, so early socialization and training are a must. They need a lot of exercise and ball games and can become a bit rowdy if left alone too long.

Their coats are normally white, with large tan or black spots across the head and body. With correct training, these spotted dogs can make wonderful household pets.

Chihuahua

For one of the smallest breeds of dogs, Chihuahuas have one of the biggest personalities.

There are different types of Chihuahuas, and some of them can have spots and freckles. They can be chocolate, cream, tan, white and black and have a mixture of colored spots.

These fashionable pups can be really sassy, so despite their size, early training is needed. Chihuahua’s are loud and protective, making them good watchdogs.

Catahoula Leopard Dog

As its name suggests the Catahoula Leopard is a particularly impressive spotted breed of dog.

They are first and foremost a working dog and need at least one hour of intense running exercise a day. A lack of exercise will result in a frustrated and overly excited dog that could turn destructive.

Catahoulas can have an array of different colorings, from white with black spots to black with gray spots. They’re very striking dogs that are muscular and quite often have two different colored eyes.

Great Pyrenees

These really large pups are native to France where they were originally bred to guard livestock and herd. Male Great Pyrenees can grow to be 82 inches high! No wonder they could protect sheep from wolves.

And that’s before you even count the extra inches their extremely fluffy coat gives them. These pups are usually white, however, they can sometimes have spots.

Regardless of which coat they have, your Great Pyrenees will need a lot of grooming – at least a daily brush if you don’t want to be vacuuming all day long. They will repay you with affection and constant love though!

Beagle

Beagles are well-known spotty dogs. They usually have a mixture of tan, black, and white spots all over their bodies. They have a short and fairly smooth coat which (unlike the Great Pyrenees) doesn’t require a lot of grooming. Once a week should be enough to keep most loose hairs under control.

These floppy-eared dogs are very funny, gentle, and loyal. They’re good hunting dogs and love to have a job to do. They’re known for being stubborn and can be a little naughty – so consistent training is needed to keep these pups in line!

Border Collie

These beautiful, bouncy spotted dogs are a firm family favorite. They come in all different colors from black and white to gray and tan and can be a spotted mixture of all of them.

They’re incredibly intelligent working dogs, which means they need at least an hour of exercise and mental games a day.

They’ve got high energy levels and love to play with children and adults alike. Their beautiful spotted coats may look nice but Border Collies are big shedders, so keep the brush and vacuum cleaner close!

American Bulldog

American Bullies (despite what many people think) are actually friendly, affectionate, and very loyal dogs. They love to be part of a big family and spend time playing and cuddling their owners. Their fighting dog history, however, has led them to be a very misunderstood dog breed.

White American Bullies can have different colored spots. Black and brown are usually the most common though. These spots often appear on their heads but can be on their paws and body too. These doggos have short hair that requires minimal grooming.

Dogo Argentino

Dogo Argentinos are very powerful pups with quite a striking appearance. They’re usually all white but can occasionally have small black spots on their coats. They can’t have any other spot color – just black!

These dogs are not for novice owners. They can be very affectionate to their owners but they’re seriously territorial and, without the correct training, can easily become aggressive. They need an expert owner who can bring out their best side.

Staffordshire Terrier

Staffies are enthusiastic dogs that love to play and spend time with their humans. They like to receive and give affectation in equal measures and they respond best to positive reinforcement. Rather like the American Bulldog, these pups are misunderstood as being aggressive because of their fighting past

The most common Staffordshire Terrier spot combination is a white coat with either black, tan, or brown spots. There are a few other combinations, but they’re quite unusual. These dogs have short and smooth coats which require minimal grooming.

Wirehaired Pointing Griffon

The Wirehaired Pointing Griffon is the ultimate gun dog. These pups are versatile, hardworking, and eager to please their hunting companions. Griffs can be spotted amongst other hunting dogs thanks to their wiry and bristly coat (and an adorable goaty on their chin).

This hardworking dog breed has two standard coat colors according to the AKC. But, others are possible. These are brown and gray and chestnut and gray. They can also have ticked and roan markings which give them a beautiful, spotted coat too!

They’re very active dogs and need lots of exercise to keep them happy and entertained. Griffs won’t adapt well to apartment living and prefer having fields close by to run in.

They’re very playful and affectionate towards all their family members. The also get on well with kids and other canines.

Dachshund

We can all recognize the famous Wiener dog but did you know that they can also have spots? This breed can have a dapple coat, which genetically is the same as the merle coat pattern found in Australian Shepherds.

This amazing spotted coat is one of the most popular coat patterns for a Dachshund. So, you can expect to pay a little more for a Wiener puppy that’s spotted.

Dachshunds can have three coat types: wired, smooth, and longhaired. As you can guess, longhaired pups need more grooming than their short-haired cousins.

These dogs are very aware of their surroundings and don’t mind barking when someone is coming to the door.

They’re funny, loyal little dogs that are not built for a lot of strenuous exercise. They can be prone to obesity, so walks are a must. But swimming, jumping and too much running can affect their spine and legs.

English Bulldog

How cute are these wrinkly, grumpy dogs?

The charming, brave, and goofy English Bulldog is a great choice for those living in the city or in the countryside. These pups are the descendants of the dogs used in bull baiting in 17th century England.

This was a cruel sport in which packs of dogs attacked a bull and the audience bet on who would win.

Whilst Bulldogs are still brave, they’re not naturally aggressive. Many even think these strong dogs are lazy. That’s probably because they’re happy to curl up on your lap and spend hours relaxing at home. But actually, these dogs are active and once outdoors, they’re happy running and exploring.

English Bulldogs have a short and sleek coat that will blow twice a year (so expect more brushing during this time).

These dogs often have a white base coat with tan, black, or brindle-colored spots. They can also be ticked, meaning they have smaller spots all over their bodies.

English Pointer

English Pointers look very like German Shorthaired Pointers.

However, the German breed tends to be smaller both in height and weight. English Pointers can also be found in more colors than the German variety but can still have beautiful, spotted coats.

They can have orange, lemon, liver, and black coats with white patches as well as a ticked coat.

Like other Pointers, these pooches were bred to help hunters point out game birds. They’re very active and energetic and need lots of exercise daily. They’ll be your best friend if you take them running with you – but don’t expect them to tire before you do.

They get on well with their family members and children who they’re used to. But you should take extra care around new kids. They’re boisterous and can be a little reserved.

English Pointers are generally very healthy dogs and make wonderful pets for active families.

All of these dog breeds can make great companions when trained and exercised well. Do you have a favorite spotted dog? Let us know in the comments!

Question: What kind of dog is white with black spots?

The Dalmatian is a medium sized dog breed known for its unique white coat with black or brown spots. Originating as a hunting dog, it was also used as a wagon in its early days. The origins of this breed date back to present-day Croatia and its historical region of Dalmatia.

Black skin disease is most common in Pomeranians, Chow Chows, Alaskan Malamutes, Siberian Huskies, Salmon, Toy Poodles and Miniature Poodles. Black skin disease can occur in any breed and any age.

Ticking is flecks or colored spots on white areas. It can occur on any white area in a dog if the white is "true" white (that is, if it is caused by a series of white spots and not by a pheomelanin intensity gene such as locus I or urajiro).

The only way to know for sure what breed of dog you have is to do a DNA test on the dog. DNA is what makes up the genetic code of every living being. Each person or animal has a completely unique code.

Sun exposure is the most common cause of black spots on the skin and coat of dogs. Aging is also known to cause dark spots in dogs (age spots). Friction can also cause dark spots to appear in areas such as the armpits and under the legs.

How much does a Dalmatian puppy cost? While this largely depends on your location, the average cost of a Dalmatian puppy from a reputable breeder can cost you between $800 and $1,500 give or take.

Dalmatians are very energetic, playful and sensitive dogs. … Some Dalmatians can be secretive with strangers and aggressive towards other dogs; others will be timid if not socialized enough, and still others may be nervous.
