2022! 25 Top Free Games That Don't Need WiFi Or Data My Picks For 2022! Download Here

We've found the best WiFi-Free Games and Apps that don't require WiFi or internet and we've just updated our ratings and reviews for 2022! Fun, WiFi- free (and cost-free) iOS and Android links at the bottom of the page for every for each game. It's a win-win in the car, plane, hotel or home-sweet-home.

WiFi-free games are really the best bet anytime, but can be a LIFE-SAVER when you are traveling, whether by train, plane or car.

The trick is to download the games (or podcasts, for Mom and Dad) when you have a clear, strong internet signal at home. Then, whether you're 30,000 feet in the air or driving to visit relatives in Tucson, you've got access to games that keep the whole fam busy without needing the internet.

Games and Apps are Better when No WiFi is involved

There’s tons of controversy about the benefits children get from using interactive gaming applications and the flip side--harmful effects to a child’s developing brain, possibly caused by exposure to violence in games or other undesirable virtual situations. More often than not, these concerns focus on how these smart device applications impact a child’s learning or mental health development.

The Expert Says

If you want your kids to develop better sensory-motor skills and better reading skills, screens for kids under 3 should be off limits. Dr. Kimberly Young, notes that kids develop better sensory-motor skills playing with real toys and better reading skills off line. Her great Screen Smart guide can help you be the best Tech parent out there. Dr. Young has been researching, teaching and treating Internet Addiction for over 30 years, so we think her ideas are super solid. And for kids of all ages, Dr. Young points out that in order to develop social communication skills and healthy family attachment, a tech disconnect is a must. We love that idea.

Then there’s the EMF possibility

At Tech Wellness, we are also concerned with physiological health: WiFi and cell signal wireless EMF exposure on little bodies. There are many studies that that show EMF radiation has biological effects. Without a doubt.

This is especially concerning when it comes to children and their developing bodies. The energy from devices penetrates deeper into their brains as a result.   In fact this study using models of brain tissue of children 5 to 8 years old, indicated that the maximum specific absorption rate (SAR) in one gram is about two times higher than in adult models.  Devra Davis sites several research studies and shows why children absorb more radiation than adults and the consequences of that exposure.

The good news is that radiation coming from the WiFi drops off dramatically with distance. So, use your laptops, tablets and cellphone is Airplane mode. Tech Wellness recommends keeping a minimum of 15 to 20 feet of distance between you and you and the router for safety.

And--Turn off WiFi when you're not using it. That’s why we love our WiFi Switch You don’t need to get close to the wireless radiation from your router and it makes it easy to power off anytime. Many parents have shared that they find their children sleep better when the WiFi’s off.

HAPPINESS IS NO MORE WIFI! CONNECT INTERNET TO YOUR DEVICES WITH THIS EASY NO WIFI KIT

A happy fact is that all EMF exposures drop with distance from the source. YAY! That goes for the wireless radiation and for the magnetic energy waves, which is present with most electronic devices.

    Highlights Shapes App

    Ages 3+

An enchanting 3+game. Brought to you by the Highlights magazine folks, the quality is beautiful. The game is slow and mesmerizing. The experience is quiet and zen like as bubbles give way to a little squirrel floating through a series of lovely scenes where you and your child will identify shapes and colors. Fill in the scene with a yellow rectangle or a set of purple circles and a new scene slowly opens.

This app can help your child with their development of critical thinking and problem solving skills as they explore new enticing shapes, colors and color mixing.

We think you can play this one straight through from 15 to 30 minutes, depending on how quickly you complete the shape puzzles.

Highlights has been around for decades and parents can trust this brand.   This app has the added security of an ad-free environment; we love that it's CARU (The Childrens Advertising Review Unit) and the FCC's COPPA( Children's Online Privacy Protection Act) Safe Harbor Certified.

We have links to the versions for iPad and IPhone and Android phones below.

    2. Toddler Puzzle Games for Kids

    Ages 3+

Even the opening of this game is sweet. Your little one can play one game module for free—but the game is great because it gives lots of furry little animals to cycle through.

Tap one of the grid of 12 and first a connect the dots module appears. It’s simple, just tap the strawberry as it moves around the outline of the animal. Once that’s completed the animal appears in black and white. Touch the screen and the “color” appears. Once the furry friend is colored in in automatically breaks into puzzle pieces that your child will drag and drop to complete the animal.

That’s it. The delightful prompt and melodic tune take you back to the grid where you and your child can choose the next animal puzzle.

Make sure you are using your airtube wired headsets while talking on the phone or listening to music.

TECH WELLNESS TIP We're so excited that you're choosing WiFi free for your child. Did you know that WiFi radiation is strongest next to the router?  To keep a safe distance between you and the energy Turn it off with our favorite remote switch.  And to "see" the invisible energy(from all your smart-stuff and wireless devices) and determine a safe level, try our favorite home pro-meter.

Phonics - ABC Tracing for Kids

    Ages 3+

Play in Airplane Mode! This children's game app is purely educational.  We looked at every free ABC game and downloaded them all and found this one to offer the most un-interrupted playing time. The free version  It's also the most comprehensive.

Very basic, it allows you to trace every letter of the alphabet in both lower and upper case. Tech Wellness expert Dr. Young is a huge proponent of tracing and educational games for your toddler, she cautions giving a device to kids as a babysitter or a reward for good behavior.  So get in there--even when your device is on airplane- and enjoy this fun game with your child.

TECH WELLNESS TIP Scan bottom bar so you can scroll letter by letter. It's how the app allows you to go from one letter to the next. Also choose Animal Cards and a game where your child can tap an animal and be rewarded with a "bing" sound. The positive element of playing in Airplane Mode is that there is No electromagnetic radiation coming from the device.  However, the electronic screen still emits magnetic energy which can be harmful to growing children. The good news is that a simple stylus can eliminate over 75% of the magnetic energy coming from the screen.

    4. Fiete Math

    Ages 4+

Fiete Math is an amazing and educational app for your kiddos! This whimsical app reviews simple counting, addition, subtraction, division, and problem solving. A charming cartoon captain instructs players to load his boat with a specific number of packages. Players then must pick and choose what combination of options will equal the requested sum. There is light upbeat music to go along with this beachy game. Different options of packages are offered the further you get in the game- instead of simple boxes you can stack cute and cuddly animals. A pig is 1 unit, a cat is 2, a whale is 10, and so on. You can practice basic multiplication with your kids as they learn about strategy and space optimization.

This is an excellent game to try using a Stylus. A stylus keeps your device germ free and allow fingers distance from magnetic fields come off of all digital screens. There’s one for kids and one for teens and adults. If you’ve ever noticed a tingling feeling from scrolling or playing, it could be wireless radiation or the magnetic fields—either way a stylus is an excellent solution

This game is not only educational, it’s so fun! Not to mention, the gaming device doesn’t need to be connected to the Internet for players to have a great time! Disconnecting from the Internet also prevent in app purchasing.

    Bike Race: Free Style Games

    Ages 4+

This game has a huge following, and honestly I can see why. There is some serious hand eye coordination that is needed to not crash and extreme focus! The races tend to be under a minute or so, as long as you’re not crashing.  Keep in mind the developers ‘Top Free Games’ designed this app to automatically restart when you crash, making it addictive. You’ll want to limit your child’s time spent on this app. It also has some in app purchases but as long as the wifi is turned off, you’ll have nothing to worry about!

Compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. Download here.

    Ages 5+

Shooter. Lots of colorful bubbles. One Shooter in the center. That’s it. Rotate the shooter with your fingers or a stylus and the bubble burster automatically fires once you’ve set your aim.

The cool part about this Free game is that you get 40 chances with each re-set. The formations change with each re-set of the game so it doesn’t get boring. Ages 6 will enjoy just as much as a 16 year old. If you like bursting the little bubbles on plastic bubble wrap, you'll really love this.

    Khan Academy and Khan Kids

    Ages 3+

This one was recommended to me by an amazing Mom I know who’s (almost) 3 year old who happily chooses this educational app all the time. There are two versions, ‘Khan Academy’ for ages 4+ and ‘Khan Kids’ ages 2-7. Once you download the app, you’ll select the specific age of your child so the app can be tailored to their unique developmental stage. Khan Academy (nonprofit) designed this app to provide a world class education for free, with quick lessons that return you back to the home screen - so it isn’t designed to be addictive. There is a library of books, learning materials, art activities that all use the ‘head start’ approach to learning.

As if we needed another reason to love this app, there are even multiple studies coming out showing increased learning due to this app! Take a look at this article.

Pro Tip: Click the "Offline" button in the top right corner to access the games you can use on Airplane Mode.

This app even offers a ‘teacher’ option, where you can assign and track your child’s progress - perfect for distance learning. Unfortunately, you’ll have to hook up to the internet for this feature.

While your kids play this WiFi free game, you can listen to music or make phone calls with the airtube wired headset.

    9. Love Balls

    Ages 7+

Your kids will enjoy this game that’s as cute as the name. This one’s new and gives you several games to play in Airplane mode.

Two happy little balls sit on either side of teeter-totter. As you draw lines you “motivate” the little balls to push the balls to and fro and they roll into each other and make little explosions of happy fireworks. A fun physics lesson and experiment.

TECH WELLNESS TIP Play this one together as a family.  Remember to Switch off the WiFi as well as having the device in airplane mode

    Download Here:

    10. Infinity Loop

Ages 7+ Infinity Loop is a fun puzzle game for all ages 7 and over. Great for kids who love puzzles, connecting things together and patterns.

There are in-app purchases available as an option. Be careful with the temptation of in-app purchases and make sure to discuss with your children -especially the older ones who may end up accessing this game online-about this prior to letting them play.

TECH WELLNESS TIP WiFi radiation is strongest next to the router. Turn it off with our favorite remote switch. Keep a safe distance between the energy and your family. To keep a safe distance between you and your phone while making calls try our lovely airtube headset.

    12. Breathe, Think, Do with Sesame

    Ages 2-5

If you’ve ever tried teaching breathing techniques to a toddler, you know keeping their attention can be the most difficult part. That’s why I love this app - it’s engaging, easy to understand and opens up the door for great conversations about emotions! Sesame Street created this app to tell the story of a frustrated ‘monster’, who learns how to calm himself down. I love that this app is a ‘‘choose your own adventure’ style and the stories last only a few minutes. I tested this app out on some wild 3 year olds and I’ve never seen them so calm and focused on anything.

I’d recommend sitting with your child while they play this app so you can talk through it with them, and even help them think of times they’ve been upset and can breathe, think, and do!

Bonus: this app also has pdfs on how to talk with your kids about emotional health!

This is an excellent game to try using a Stylus to mimic the pencil you draw with. A stylus keeps your device germ free and allow fingers distance from magnetic fields come off of all digital screens. There’s one for kids and one for teens and adults. If you’ve ever noticed a tingling feeling from scrolling or playing, it could be wireless radiation or the magnetic fields—either way a stylus is an excellent solution.

You can download this app for free on iPhones, iPads, iPods and Androids with IOS of 10. 0 or later. After your free download you will be prompted, only when your phone is connected to WiFi, to purchase a monthly subscription that unlocks new words, prevent non-optional ads, and receive free coins. Keeping the phone connected to WiFi allows multi-player mode, where each player must have their own device to play the game.

    Download Here:

    13. Fruit Ninja

    Ages 7+

Fruit Ninja is an all-time classic game available for download for free on the app store. Players use their ninja sword to slice through flying fruit. The more items they slice, the better their score. BUT watch out for bombs! This is the quickest way to lose the game, slicing through a bomb will trigger a red flash on the screen, before a notice that your turn is over.

This thrilling game strengthens player’s hand eye coordination and encourages them to stay highly focused. We love this high quality game- the colors are refreshing and the game is exhilarating. The experience keeps you on your toes- excited for more.

When the player’s device is connected to the Internet there are prompts for in app-purchases. These allow you to use different tools while playing- which honestly do not enhance the gaming experience.

WiFi connection does not change the single-players experience so your kids can perfect their ninja skills in a safe environment! When connected to WiFi players are able to compete with others in a multiplayer version of the game.. but that means kids are also subjected to harmful wireless energy. Your kids can enjoy the music in Fruit Ninja, safely, with this airtube wired headset.

TECH WELLNESS TIP: GAMES ARE GREAT- BUT A TIMER CAN HELP KIDS BALANCE PLAY TIME WITH ONLINE SCHOOL TIME

    14. Toontastic

    Ages 6-8

Directing, storytelling and acting, all in one offline app - we’re in! This creative app made by Google and Toontastic will allow your kids to animate and design cartoons, create plots, add soundtracks, voiceovers, and download the final show! This app offers a unique outlet for kids to be able to narrate whatever kind of adventure they can imagine! For everything that this app offers, we’re pretty impressed at the ability to create offline. It’s easy to use and depending on the story it can take only a few minutes to create - however more than likely your child is going to want to play this app for as long as possible.

    15. Pop The Lock

    Ages 8+

Pop The Lock is a great puzzle game for everyone of all ages. A degree of difficulty yet still fun! "popping the locks" will keep your little ones entertained for awhile with WiFi free fun. Moms and Dad may appreciate the fact that this game is silent.

    16. Stack Ball

    Age 8+

Stack ball hit is a stress relieving game suggested in the app store for players older than 4. Considering this is a challenging game, younger players may get discouraged- this game is a perfect option for kids 8 and above. Players must match the color of a bouncing ball to rotating bricks in order to break through the bricks. The faster players crash through the bricks the more points they receive. This colorful game is not WiFi dependent and in-app purchases are not an issue even when the device is connected to the Internet. We encourage connecting to the internet with a wired connection—anytime for safe and fast -faster than 5G-play. Here's a step-by-step guide on how to wire any device!

We love this game because it is simple and entertaining for all ages. The combination of the bouncing ball and rotating target create an inherent challenge for the player, which increases as you level up. The bright colors will keep you engaged and excited which is crucial, as the game can get old after 20 to 30 minutes, which is a great as the amount time spent on a device. Gaming, scrolling, texting or watching videos can lead to depression and anxiety for kids, teens and adults. Check out this story on cell phone distraction.

TECH WELLNESS TIP Wondering when to get your kid a cellphone? Check out all the safe ways to wire your device! Make sure to get airtube wired headsets to use with any phone or tablet to protect yourself from EMF.

    17. Unblock Me

    Ages 9+

Unblock me may be better suited for players older than 9 as it is a complex puzzle game- think Tetris! In the App store Unblock Me is recommended for age 4 and up, but we’ve had kids as old as 10 play the game and become very frustrated with it. As adults we really enjoy the game. This app can be downloaded free or premium version on the iPhone, iPad, iPod, and Android. When the phone is connected to WiFi or data there are pop-up ads and options for in-app purchases. You can play this game for hours on end, even when your phone is completely disconnected- no WiFi? No problem!

Unblock Me offers four different categories: Relax Mode, Challenge Mode, Multiplayer Mode, and Daily Puzzle Mode. The Multiplayer Mode is not available when the phone is disconnected. The other modes strengthen the player’s problem solving skills, psychological development, and enhance self-evaluation.

The game is beautifully laid out, with realistic wooden pieces and hundreds of puzzles to choose from! The home screen of the app is tailored to the season- charming holiday decorations during December, a dusting of snow and a snowman to match in the winter, and whimsical butterflies on dainty flowers for spring.

    18. Minion Rush

    Ages 9+

Minion Rush is for the family who loves minions and Despicable Me! However it is recommended for those aged 9+. That's because there's pushing and knocking Minions off the track. Plus some reviewers talk about how this game is so engaging can be addicting. Make sure you have strict time limits when your kids play this game. No more than 30 minutes at a time, and limit the number of days in the week your kids play. Click on the Timer Below to Find Out More!

WiFi connection does not change the single-players experience so your kids can perfect their ninja skills in a safe environment! When connected to WiFi players are able to compete with others in a multiplayer version of the game.. but that means kids are also subjected to harmful wireless energy.

     19. Temple Run

    Age 9+

Temple Run is one of the most popular games of all time. It tests players reflexes as they sprint along treacherous paths, slide under tree roots and flames, and narrowly escape demon monkeys. This app allows for in-app purchases and upgrades. When connected to the WiFi you are prompted to buy coins and upgrade your player for small fees but these pesky pop-ups disappear when the phone is disconnected. The game has a mysterious color scheme that is paired perfectly with exciting, heart pounding music.

We think you can easily play this game for anywhere between 45 minutes to an hour without any features being restricted by lack of WiFi connection. Considering this is such a fun game, we suggest setting a designated limit per day on how long your kids are allowed to use this app. Depending on age, we recommend 15 to 20 minutes for healthy, balanced tech use. We think this one warrants a timer on play of just 15 minutes at a time and please have conversation with your kids about how many apps are designed to entice and addict and how being mindful and creating healthy boundaries can help prevent potentially life disrupting obsession and addiction.

     20. Smash Hit

    Age 10+

The app stores suggest 4+, but we think its better suited for older players as there is complex coordination required and futuristic images too intense for younger kids. Gliding through this futuristic platform gives the player a sense of calm and engagement at the same time. The goal of the game is to shatter crystal and glass obstacles. To collect more balls you must hit the crystal prisms. As the levels advance, the obstacles move faster, are more obtrusive, and more challenging to hit.

You can easily spend hours playing this game, as the levels are not limited by playing the game without WiFi or internet. No WiFi connection offers your child protection from EMF radiation and you can enhance the no EMF experience by using a stylus protects from the magnetic EMF that come’s from all digital devices anytime the screen is on (with or without WiFi, Bluetooth or cellphone connection).

TECH WELLNESS TIP  Block Blue Light From All Screens For Better Health and Sleep.  We have a guide with everything you want to know about digital blue light.  A great way to block some of it, is to put an Anti-Blue Light Screen Protector on any and all screens--iPads to Nintendos--every screen should have one!

    21. Cut the Rope

    Age 9+

For this Free Game that's not online, we need to tell you that though the app store thinks this game is suitable for players 4+, we recommend age 9 as the minimum.

This app comes in both free and premium versions, and as it is still a blast. You begin the app by opening up your front door to find a special package; inside that package is a cute little green creature named Om Nom… demanding candy! In order to get the candy, players complete a series of puzzles and obstacle courses. Om Nom makes cute sounds as it (not-so-patiently) waits for its sweet treat.

The gaming experience not online and not using  WiFi is fun and very easy to get the hang of. Simply cut the ropes holding the candy up and try to get the treats into Om Nom’s mouth. The faster you complete this, the happier Om Nom is.

One of the Keys to Keep Gaming From Becoming An Obsession Is To Make Time For Other Fun And Important Things In Life!  This Bright Bold Timer Really Helps.

This app has been re-vamped time and time again, but one thing as always stayed consistent- you don’t have to have cell or Internet connection to have a great time playing! In-app purchases are available only when the phone is connected and the account password is input. To make the advanced levels more challenging you must avoid candy traps, other creatures stealing the candy, and collect as many starts as possible.

The game is charming, with whimsical backdrops and pleasant background music. To listen to this music, try out our stunning airtube headphones. Try this one using our favorite stylus: There’s one for kids and one for teens and adults. If you’ve ever noticed a tingling feeling from scrolling or playing, it could be wireless radiation or the magnetic fields—either way a stylus is an excellent solution

    22. Aquapark.io

    Ages 12+

Aquapark. io is an inherently competitive game that is available free on the iPhone, iPad, iPod and Android (IOS 9.0 or later). There are optional in-app purchases- HOWEVER, once WiFi is disabled this isn’t an issue! The goal of this game is to reach the end of the water slide first while bumping other avatars out of the way. The app is entertaining and colorful with simple graphics and a straightforward goal.

PARENTS PLEASE NOTE This app is designed to capture the fascination of young minds for hours on end. –Aquapark.io can spark an adrenaline rush and is therefore highly addictive. We think this one warrants a timer on play of just 15 minutes at a time and please have conversation with your kids about how many apps are designed to entice and addict and how being mindful and creating healthy boundaries can help prevent potentially life disrupting obsession and addiction.

TECH WELLNESS TIP To play this Free Game Offline: Connect device to WiFi to Download a free version of this App. Once the app is downloaded on your phone, disconnect your devise before opening the app. This disables those pesky advertisements and in-app purchase notifications! 23. Jetpack Joyride

    Ages 13+

One of our favorites on our 2019 Best Games to Play Without The Internet list!  This game allows players to blast off in their state-of the-art jetpacks; dodge lasers zappers and missiles, and race around laboratories. When connected to WiFi players are able to compete against other, online, players. This is the biggest different between playing this game on and off-line. The graphics are charming and the game is a manageable pace.

There are options for in-app purchases that will cease once the devise is disconnected from and without the Internet. When connected to Internet or to cell services you are able to purchase advanced jet packs, more coins, and various embellishments on the app store. Like purchasing anything on the app store, the device must be connected to data or WiFi and the account password provided-but you can also download this app using a wired connection to your smartphone or tablet.

Your hand eye coordination is tested, as you have to jet pack over missiles, slide under lasers, and jump to gather coins. The app is fun and easy to play, you control the animated avatar’s movement by pressing and holding or swiping on the screen. You can easily spend anywhere from 30 to 45 minuets lost in this game. It is crucial to discuss allotted screen time with your teens!

TECH WELLNESS TIP Protect your teens from Webcam Hacking with these trendy Creep Blockers . Of course you won't have to worry about someone accessing their computer camera when they're playing without the internet, but when they are online, camera hacking is the number two hack says our Cybersecurity expert, Bryan Neumeister.

    24. Plants Vs. Zombies

    Ages 14+

Okay Mom and Dad, by the name alone, Plants vs Zombies, you may already realize this game is violent.  Basically, you grow the plants, pretty and colorful, but then (kind of crazy and weird) you harvest those plants to use as weapons to kill the Zombies. So, we're recommending this ONLY for kids 13+. Even though is wildly more fun and much more tame than Fortnite!

It's on the list because it's free, it's on several Best Of lists and technically a "kids" game. But please, if you're a parent that realizes the importance of monitoring your kids viewing, know that this game is all about shooting—even though the "guns" are plants and the killing is of Zombies. Yes, they see violence on TV and at the movies, but check out the next game on our list for a fun game without shooting and no violence. Or, if you've got teens or maybe want this game for yourself, we've provided the link below.

    25. Fallout Shelter

    Ages 16+

Fallout Shelter is for your older kids; we think players should be over sixteen.  C'mon, nuclear disaster is a serious topic.  This game makes you think abut how to survive in a desolate world. FUN!  Good news, as with all the games on our list, it doesn't require WiFi and is free. From the name of the game you can imagine that this game has a futuristic, daunting air.  That said, it's interesting to "build" a life in the protected vault. Yes, negative and distressing, but definitely not addicting and the violence is secondary.

But if you are worried about addiction or just want to know if it's an obsession or an addiction-

Here's a great Internet and Gaming Addiction Test from the world's leading expert on Internet Addictions, Dr. Kimberly Young:

There are in-app purchases available as an option. Be careful with the temptation of in-app purchases and make sure to discuss with your teens about this prior to letting them play.
