Free Printable Children's Books.

contributed by Leanne Guenther

Make these free printable children's books to encourage your kids to read.  There are a variety of themes to choose from -- the majority of the books target younger readers (preschool, kindergarten and early grade school) although a few of the books are a bit more challenging.

The "custom stories" and holidays themed stories are especially popular!

The printable books come with suggestions for complimentary activities and/or worksheets to reinforce the stories.

Here's a suggestion from JoAnna:  "I was trying to keep my 5-year-old busy the other day and came up with a fun craft reading project.   I gave him 6 blank pieces of paper and told him to draw a different picture on each one.  When he was finished, I asked him what each picture was.  Then I put together the pictures and wrote a story based on them.  Arien REALLY loves his book because it is about his father and he is very proud that it has all of his drawing in it.  I enjoyed trying to tie all of the pictures into one story (and the free time I got while he was drawing)."

Here is a suggestion from Carlene and Paris:  "Being an avid quilter, I came up with my own way of putting the mini books together. I sew them together on the sewing machine. No staples or brads are needed. It works for me."

Here is a suggestion from Carol:  "If printer resolution is high enough, the mini book pages can be reduced to 70%-75% before printing each page.  Then they can be inserted into a mini photo album.  That way the books may hold up to more wear and tear with younger children. "

The mini-books are quite simple with images that should appeal to young children and simple, repetitive words that children in Preschool thru Grade 1 should be able to read themselves after hearing it a time or two.

Feel free to make as many copies as you need (just don't sell them as they're meant to be free for all to use.).

Use our Letter A Alphabuddies section to complement the mini book.

Materials:

  • printer,
  • paper (you can use a slightly heavier paper for a longer lasting book)
  • stapler
  • something to color with (if using B&W template)

Directions:

We have prepared a demonstration video about assembling your mini book. Watch it here.

  • Print template of choice.  The B&W version is fun for young children to color in or for older children to color as gifts for younger ones.  I like printing a color cover and B&W pages.
  • Color the template pieces if you are doing the B&W version.

assemble your mini book.

NUMBERED PAGES:

  • If you imagine a 'real' book for a second, you know that each page has printing on the front and the back.  We're going to fold the pages to make it like a real book.
    • Ignore the cover for now.
    • Fold each page along the center dotted line so the images are on the OUTSIDE and the blank sides of the paper are on the inside (imagine you're making a greeting card).
    • You can use a glue stick, if you like, to glue the pages together (WITH THE EXCEPTION OF THE COVER!)
  • Stack the pages, so the odd numbers are on top and the folded edges are lined up.  Trim with scissors or paper cutter if needed.

COVER PAGE:

  • Fold the cover page along the dotted line, again with the images on the outside.
  • OPTIONAL:  You can laminate the cover page or print it on cardstock if you want it to be more like a real book's cover.

ASSEMBLE THE BOOK:

  • Open the cover page (like a folder) and slip the pages inside so that when you open the cover you'll see page 1 -- the unfolded edges of the pages will go against the folded part of the cover.
  • Close the cover page and tap the book so everything lines up.
  • Put three or four staples along the edge to hold the book together.
  • Trim again, if needed.
  • Flip through the book once, carefully folding the pages to make the book easier for the children to read.

PRINTING THE TEMPLATES

  • Close the template window after printing to return to this screen.
  • Set page margins to zero if you have trouble fitting the template on one page (FILE, PAGE SETUP or FILE, PRINTER SETUP in most browsers).
  • There'll be less trimming to do if you also turn off the headers and footers.

Children's publishing and book printing in Moscow. Where to publish a children's book?

Within three months the publishing house "Pero" published the textbook "Hydrology of Lakes and Reservoirs" by KK Edelshtein, 400 pages long (at this time both proofreading and layout and layout editing by the author were included - very picky). It was very pleasant to communicate with the manager, proofreader and layout designer. Everything is fast and with an understanding of the tasks of the author. The cover, the print - I liked everything. And the prices turned out to be almost 2 times lower than in the publishing house of Moscow State University. M. V. Lomonosov, where our department originally planned to publish this textbook. On behalf of the Department of Terrestrial Hydrology of Moscow State University named after M. V. Lomonosov, we express our deep gratitude to the staff of the Pero Publishing House. Author and colleagues in the department

Ershova Marina

I am glad that I chose your publishing house for my book. Sincere thanks to Julia and Natalia. Their calm, friendly attitude made the work on the book easy, not burdensome. All the remarks made by me during the work were taken into account with readiness and speed. The book was made up and printed and quickly, and exactly at the time it was promised (for a month). Prices for layout and printing are low compared to other publishing houses. And further. Often you have to deal with employees and organizations that increase the cost of their services as they work. Everyone knows how annoying it is. In this sense, the publishing house "Pero" showed itself from the best side. As a decent and reliable partner. The printed edition was brought to my home at a convenient time for me. If I decide to publish another book, I will contact Pero.

Yuri Semenovich

I would like to express gratitude from my children - the authors of "Smart Reading. Fairy Tales with Meaning" - and from myself to the manager Khristina for sincerity, responsiveness and pleasant communication during the whole time of working on the book. Sometimes it is quite difficult to be on the same wavelength with the customer, but Christina does it perfectly. Special thanks to the artist of the publishing house - Yulia Tolstousova. To design the cover, we were offered an impressive list of creative people to get acquainted with their portfolio and choose the one who will work on the beautiful cover of the future book. Intuition did not let us down - everyone unanimously chose Yulia's portfolio and did not regret it. She managed to convey in the drawing everything that we really hoped for, but we ourselves would not have been able to.

Maria

Hello, dear employees of the Pero publishing house! I thank you from the bottom of my heart for the wonderful collections of poetry that I received during the summer months! I liked everything very much: the new design harmoniously opens the doors to the creative world and gives the brightest emotions. Bright, inspiring cover and wonderful design are the undoubted components of Success. Thank you very much for the wonderful opportunity to share your work with the Readers! I wish you and your loved ones all the best: Peace, Love, Health, Happiness and Warmth! Sincerely, Maria Kondakova.

Maria Kondakova

I would like to thank Pero publishing house for their attentive attitude to the author and conscientious work! Employees promptly answer customer questions, help to finalize the provided layout. As a result: an order for the printing of a children's illustrated book “The Eighth Moon. Tales of the Night City” was completed on time, the print quality is good. At the same time, they ask for much less than in many metropolitan publishing houses.

Marina Gorodnicheva

I was very surprised and pleased with the efficiency of the publishing house (consideration of the manuscript by the editor, layout and printing of the book) - the terms are several times less than prescribed in the contract. So the manuscript was brought to the publishing house on January 13, already 19January signed for printing and January 27 edition was ready. And it’s also good that there is an opportunity to resolve issues of coordinating the layout and design by e-mail. Thank you very much.

Novichkov Vyacheslav

Yesterday I received a print run of my first book. Expectations overwhelmed me and it is justified. The book is excellently done. All wishes of the author, i.e. mine, are implemented in full. Almost the entire process from the beginning of sending electronic material to the receipt of finished products took place by correspondence by e-mail. mail. The employees of the publishing house are polite, attentive and simply beautiful. Thank you all so much for your hard work and patience. I advise all both beginners and professional writers to work with these amazing and hardworking charms. Huge respect and respect for you book fairies.

Alexey Petrovich

Many thanks to the staff of the Pero Publishing House for the work on publishing the book Fishing Universities. Two weeks of work ended with the receipt of the long-awaited work. Efficiency, goodwill and mutual interest were the leitmotifs of our, I hope, long communication. For novice writers and scientists Pero is a necessary and reliable partner. Good luck and success in business!

Fedor Kolpakov

With their precision in work, quality and business friendliness, the staff of the publishing house could inspire me to further work. Thank you! Contract dated January 11, 2017, order 13. Communicated remotely. On January 24, I was informed that the print run was ready and I emailed. by mail sent a scan of the payment receipt for the shipment by Russian post to the Crimea, to Yalta. Christina immediately informed me that the books had begun to be prepared for shipment. Since there are delays at the crossing due to stormy weather, I had to wait a little longer for the package. Here I am, and I'm reporting the results. And a special thanks to Christine! (A book of poems "Unconscious of analogies" by A. Ilyashenko was published).

Alla Ilyashenko

Bravo - Pero publishing house! I would never have thought that the complicated business of typography is so simple and efficient in our time! And Pero publishing house convinced me of this! I accidentally found the address of the publishing house, contacted by e-mail, received all the necessary information promptly and in the shortest possible time became the owner of my own book! Bravo! The staff responded to all questions literally with a minute delay! Clear, precise and intelligible. For me - a non-professional - it was important. I would like to once again thank "Pero" for such a high quality of services! Keep it up! Sea captain - Vladimir Rybkin.

Rybkin Vladimir

We decided to publish a small collection of my wife's children's poems with her own illustrations in a trial run of 100 copies. Our Belarus turned out to be 80 dollars more than in Moscow! This influenced the choice of publisher. And we did not regret our choice! Considering that I had practically no experience in preparing the layout and layout, and there was no financial opportunity to order these operations, there were many mistakes on my part. Special thanks to Christina, who led our project. Communication is prompt, from morning to evening, with her help (with the help of Christina) I eliminated all the shortcomings, the book was printed professionally and the entire circulation was quickly sent by mail. Now we are the happy owners of OUR book - an incomparable feeling when you see your name on the book! Let's save some money and order a second print run, as they say with corrections and additions. Of course, in the Perot publishing house, in YOUR native publishing house!
