We’ve got a big variety of letter M activities for preschool!

(Update: I published this post years ago when my children were young. Now that I have more time, I’ve created a done-for-you alphabet curriculum perfect for preschool!)

Letter M Activities

I love to start off with my little letter books of rhymes and songs. These free books have six rhymes and songs for every letter of the alphabet! The Letter M book was a fun one because it had so many familiar nursery rhymes. We love to sing them.

Here’s a simple game to help preschoolers with the skill of subitizing. That simply means that they can look at a group of objects and know how many they are without counting them. For example, they can look at a die with three dots and know it’s “3” without counting each one.

He rolled the die and covered a matching die on the monster game board using a power magnet. You can get the free printable here.

My Three isn’t ready to do handwriting pages, so we do a lot of fine motor activities that don’t involve a pencil. What a fun one this turned out to be! I pulled out the toothpicks and mini marshmallows, and we both started creating (with just a few marshmallows permitted for a snack!).

When his older brother (almost five) saw what we were up to, he had to join in. His bridge ended up being as long as the table! (We ran out of toothpicks.)

While I think process art is important, we do crafts once in a while too. This is such a fun one! It’s based off the M is for Mouse craft I did for Crystal and Company. You can get a free pattern there.

I pulled out my Monster Count & Clip Cards, and I was amazed at how much patience had had with these. His counting has improved, and he was able to count groups up to 20. He did need help identifying numbers higher than 10.

For a name activity, I wrote his name on white cardstock using a white crayon. Then he painted over it using watercolors… and there was his name! Like magic. 🙂

He asked me to do other letters, too, so this worked great as a whole alphabet activity. He named the letters as they appeared.

He created this monster out of play dough after I made the giant ball for him (still working on those fine motor skills!).

We got in a little science this week, too. Both my boys loved using our magnet set to test which objects were magnetic. You can get the free printable here.

See you next week!

Dear Comrade!

I have no objections to giving the name Stalin, on the contrary, I will be very glad, since this circumstance gives me the opportunity to have a younger brother. (I have no brothers and never had).

I will try to write an article as soon as I get the opportunity.

As for the procedure for changing a surname, for information, you must contact the administrative department of the provincial executive committee.

With communist greetings -

I. Stalin .

NOTE

The Stalin letter is a response to the following appeal (the spelling and syntax of the original has been retained):

“1924 29 July.

Good afternoon Joseph Vissarionovich!

You don't know me, of course, and you haven't even heard of me. there are millions of people like me in the USSR, and I know you from newspapers and magazines.

Having read about you as Ilyich's favorite student in the Smena magazine, which I subscribe to, I was inspired by this, I thought that Ilyich did not have favorite students.

On behalf of the Komsomol, I ask you to speak about Ilyich as a teacher on the pages of the Smena magazine, because this magazine is a leader for working youth. I hope the request will be granted ... ".

Further, the author tells about the difficulties that he had to overcome in order to join the Komsomol, and about his social work. The letter ends with the following request:

“... And as a Leninist, I also want to honor the memory, and therefore I have a corner of Lenin at home, in which there is a little literature and posters. But there is no article.

After the death of Ilyich, I wanted to change my name Blokhin to Lenin, but on reflection I decided that I was not worthy of such a fate. [c.185]

And so I decided to change my last name to yours, i.e. Stalin, if they ask me "why did you change your last name to Stalin."

I will answer “in honor of the beloved student of Ilyich comrade. Stalin."

And therefore I appeal to you comrade. Stalin, do you have anything against this. If not, then please give me an explanation where I can apply and whether it is possible for me to change my surname…”.

Having received Stalin's letter, Blokhin replied:

“Nyandoma 12 September 1924

Dear Joseph Vissarionovich!

The day before yesterday I received your letter for which I thank you very, very much and I hope that in the future you will write from time to time, share vital issues with your little brother Mishanko.

Today, together with your letter, I am sending a letter to Vologda, to the Provincial Executive Committee (about changing the surname), I will inform you about further results in the next letter ... ”.

Other letters from M.N. Blokhin is not in the archive, and it is not known whether he fulfilled his intention. [c.186]

Letter of reply from M. Askarov

And now directly to the point.
After reading a recent post about my "cheating",
my first reaction was not to react to it in any way. In my
opinion, the presented article is somewhat
unstructured in its logic and at times simply ridiculous. It is somehow not serious to read
from the outside that some stupid cases are attributed to me with the possible use of
different devices. Mini video cameras,
mini headphones, analytical automated modules and some kind of pens
invisible (at some point I even began to wait for the appearance of
self-assembled tablecloths and invisibility caps - and which, judging by the general tone of the
article, is quite similar to me) - of course, everything can and is interesting,
but really Comrade Devyatkin it was impossible to use one's imagination in a more suitable activity for this
.
Any of my actions are skillfully interpreted by the authors in favor of their version,
pushing readers to the desired conclusion. At the same time, at first they accuse me,
that I think for a long time and issue a move along the 1st line, which, according to the authors, is very
is suspicious. Then they accuse me of playing fast and
decisively - and this is even more suspicious. Of course, the question arises
where such accurate information about the duration of my thinking
almost every move. Even I, as a direct participant in the party,
do not always succeed in remembering all the nuances of the parties. But these are all particulars.
The general style of presentation of the article, the way in which information is presented to readers
, the unambiguity of conclusions,0198 judgments and conclusions leaves some kind of ambivalent feeling. This
personally led me to the idea that all this was a provocation. Against whom specifically and for what purpose
is another question for which I do not yet have an answer.
Maybe, of course, the point is that someone thinks that in a fair fight few
are able to beat him, he thinks that he should a priori beat
juniors in rank.
In any case (including I will not hide, and succumbing to the persuasion of friends and
acquaintances) I felt obliged to write at least something in response.
In general, there is a somewhat twofold situation. In fact, the authors of the article,
based only on their personal guesses and assumptions, built
a whole “picture of the crime”, while indicating the essence of the problem,
citing specific examples and calling for immediate action.
To be honest, I must pay tribute to the aforementioned grandmasters -
they did a great job. Probably tried. Sometimes even up to such a
degrees, that somewhere I had to, to put it mildly, exaggerate my
dignity (thanks, of course, to them for this!), And somewhere just fib. But
it was only in all the examples of “cheating” that the suspicious behavior of the alleged “cheater” attracted attention
, but that’s how I
deserved suspicion in this regard. and in a particularly frequent visit to the toilet
, as it seems to me, was not noticed.
But it's all lyrics. In fact, now I am put in a situation where I am
was called a camel and offered to prove the opposite. But in fact, how is
? In the current situation, no
side can prove something after the fact. Excuse me, but I don’t feel like taking seriously the arguments that my moves
coincided with the moves offered by different computer programs at different depths of
moves.
similar parties of my accusers with a high degree of coincidence with
with some program and comment on them in the same vein. I don't
want to get involved with such a large amount of work, for what?
As for the large (precisely large, not complete (!) )
number of coincidences of my moves with the leading chess programs,
I can say that this is due to the fact that almost all of my above
commented games were obtained from specific positions, deeply
studied by me at home! And that's all!
Agree that there is a problem using computer prompts now
is very relevant, and by no means am I dismissing the need to fight
against it. But if you think about it, along with this problem, another, closely related specific problem arose. Any chess player can easily and
with impunity, using his competence in the high circles of chess society
, loudly declare the unsportsmanlike
behavior of another without visible evidence of this. That is, is it that
turns out? Someone is simply a prisoner of their emotions or for some other reason
pours mud on the
chess player for invisible reasons, questioning his
authority and moral qualities (by the way, casting a shadow on his
chess friends - it's no secret that many chess players work in groups),
and then just sits at home and does not feel any responsibility. And
, in turn, walks around and explains to everyone what and how
actually happened. This situation does not suit me at all.
I ask for a thorough investigation of this case, but it is necessary to put all
participants in the same position. Ready to bear responsibility if
will be presented with at least some normal evidence (and not at the level of
conjectures and assumptions). I would not like to read again in
as an evidence base phrases like “he could not have thought of this
himself”, “he could not play so fast”, etc.
Otherwise (if the proceedings prove my competence in
this matter), I ask that measures be taken against the accusing party
administrative action as a punishment for slander and
unfounded words, at least I would like to at least see a written
apology from all the above-signed grandmasters.
I still want to hope that the respected Moscow grandmasters
wrote this article under the influence of emotions after the Russian Cup, and not
planned a purposeful provocation. In any case, the most objective indicator of a
chess player's strength is his results in
tournaments. I hope that my subsequent appearances will not give rise to
stupid and unfounded accusations.
I'm not going to make any more excuses, and if these chess players doubt
my sports qualifications, I can offer any of them a banal
match, the result of which, in my opinion, should still clarify the
situation.
