Alena Solntseva about amateur poets and their dislike for poetry - Gazeta.Ru
Anniversary of a distant relative, a good person who has long lived quietly retirement life. Family, friends, neighbors, former colleagues gather for a festive dinner. Among them stands out an active elderly woman with the manners of a trade union leader, very bright, noisy, now she is already in charge at the table, now she is offering a toast. And then it turns out that she - poet. I prepared congratulations to the birthday man in verse.0015
Next comes the reading of a badly rhymed and very banal text. She reads for a long time, with feeling, and is clearly proud of her ability. A relative smiles dutifully, thanks, hugs a colleague, everyone drinks and praises.
Then, in the kitchen, where we all help the hero of the day with cleaning and dishes, she confidentially reports that she has long been writing poems for all occasions - holidays, anniversaries, funerals. She likes the process of composing, and she is going to eventually publish poems in a book, but for now she puts them on a special website. And she asks me to find this site, like her works, and even better - write a review, this will help to move forward - the site has a million subscribers.
In general, there is nothing wrong with the desire to write poetry, you never know what hobbies anyone has: someone sews, someone knits, another embroiders according to a pattern, and the other one bakes pies or makes jam according to a special recipe. But for some reason, the quality of these pies or ikebana does not bother me. On the other hand, if a tailored skirt sits in a bag, a hat comes out crooked, and pies burn, people do not brag about their skill. And they don’t present their loved ones with unsuccessful needlework or inedible pies. But it is not customary to think about the quality of homegrown poets. He writes poetry - already well done.
Everyone who read the novel “The Twelve Chairs” by Ilf and Petrov at one time will probably remember the famous “Gavril served as a baker . ..” by Lyapis-Trubetskoy, but the motive of the unfortunate poet is understandable - he wrote for the sake of money. But why does a woman designer, who has been building bridges all her life, begin to compose words and select rhymes if she cannot distinguish a bad poem from a good one, that is, she obviously does not like poetry, does not understand anything in it, does not feel it?
This is a mystery.
I looked at the site. And a few more like it. They are filled with the works of amateur poets, grandiose or rustic, with or without pretensions, but with one thing in common: they are all written by people without the slightest inclination to poetic creativity.
In our village, there once lived a quiet drunkard who, at the slightest sign of someone else's feast, would appear at the gate and offer the audience to read his poems to them. He was poured with one request - not to read poetry. He drank and peacefully retired, in the hope that next time he would be given the floor. However, his poems were not at all bad, although primitive. There was sincerity in them, simple-hearted naivete, unexpected tenderness.
But when I read verses about my hometown on the website “Beloved Motherland” of such quality:
“Conquering by celebrity,
Astronomer F.A. Bredikhin lived;
There is a game called "graphomania". They play it like this: the driver takes a collection of poems, preferably from the Soviet era, when not authors were published, but members of the Writers' Union, chooses the most ridiculous poem, in his opinion, and reads the first two lines. The rest must complete the quatrain, stylized as the original. Then the host collects the sheets of poetry and reads them out, and the participants try to guess which of the passages is real. The winner is the one whose creation the majority takes as the original, and the one who guesses the original. A fascinating game in which it is as difficult to determine the original as it is to compose a continuation that is not too frank, but still quite delusional. Usually new verses turn out to be better than the old one by an order of magnitude.
So here is the site "Beloved Motherland" (created to popularize modern literature about the Motherland and native places, this is the place where the organizers, as they report, select "heartfelt and kind works about the native land that are found in open sources"), - in my opinion, it is only suitable as a source of works for graphomania. But it exists, like thousands of similar poetry sites. So does anyone need it? To whom and why?
I can't imagine that a person without a hint of an ear for music and a voice will go out to guests with an offer to sing something. Maybe he loves to sing, and sings in the morning in the closet, like the hero of Yuri Olesha, but he has already been told the whole truth many times about both the wrong motive and the goatish timbre. That is, the ability to play musical instruments and sing still goes through some kind of professional filter. But not poetry. Any set of words, called by the author as poetry, is suitable here. And I am unable to explain this phenomenon. Why write poetry if you do not feel their essence?
The writer and critic of the middle of the 19th century Apollon Grigoriev wrote: “Poets are the voices of the masses, nationalities, localities, heralds of great truths and great secrets of life, carriers of words that serve as keys to understanding epochs - organisms in time, and peoples - organisms in space ". So he argued with fans of the then popular theory of "art for art's sake", who believe that the main thing for a work of art lies in its formal organization, and not in the plot. Aesthetic theory served as the basis for the modern principle of the autonomy of art. Grigoriev, on the other hand, defended the art of "folk", sensual, in living pictures representing the features of the national consciousness: "Art embodies the consciousness of the masses in images, in ideals."
And so the masses themselves began to embody their consciousness, bypassing intermediaries.
