Usher Teaches the Silkiest ABC Song Ever on 'Sesame Street'

Now that Cee Lo has taken back his chair on The Voice, Usher seems to have some free time on his hands. And lucky for us, the father of two decided to swing by Sesame Street and teach the slickest version of the ABC's we've ever heard.

Aided by Elmo, Grover, Abby and Murray, Ush demonstrates a word for each letter in the Alphabet. A is "move your arms," B is "bounce like a ball," while C is "move like a crustacean and do the crabby crawl." You get the idea.

Best of all, when tasked with teaching the letter Y, Usher just offers, "Yyyyyeah man!"

Oh, and U? That's for Usher, obviously.

Sesame Street actor Bob McGrath dies - Poster

Sesame Street actor Bob McGrath dies - Poster

December 5, 2022

He was 90 years old

American actor and songwriter Bob McGrath, known to viewers from the children's television show Sesame Street, has died at the age of 90, writes Deadline. According to the artist's representatives, he died peacefully at home surrounded by his family.

McGrath first appeared on Sesame Street at 1960s (in '69 he played the role of neighbor Bob Johnson) and periodically starred in it until 2017, ending with the episode "Having a Ball".

As a co-founder of the show, McGrath also wrote songs for the show, including the title track. After stepping away from filming, the actor continued to work with Sesame Workshop, which runs the franchise, appearing at public events and giving lectures on early childhood education.

Bob McGrath also returned for the 2019 TV specialyear, dedicated to the celebration of the 50th anniversary of "Sesame Street", which was held by Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

Sesame Workshop Sesame Street, writes the WSJ. “Why keep money in cash if you can’t make money on it?” he says. Royalties bring 8-12% per annum, while junk bonds that are considered highly profitable - 6%. For Goldberg, this is not the first experience: he owns the rights to the shoe brand of basketball player Patrick Ewing.

There has always been a demand among musicians for loans secured by future earnings from their music. For many years, only the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) and Broadcast Music Inc (BMI), which collect royalties, lent them loans, writes Reuters. But these operations were so risky that in the late 80s. this practice has ceased.

Bankers have replaced associations. The most famous of them are Parviz Omidvar and David Pullman. Omidwar has been in the business for over 20 years, with former and current clients including Michael Jackson, Bobby Womack and Marvin Gaye's son (Reuters data). Loans to stars have always been expensive: Omidwar asked for 1.5-2.5% in 10-15 days, which is equivalent to 30-90% per annum. Sometimes there was a commission on the loan - up to 20% of the loan body - plus interest.

Pullman became famous for persuading the legendary British rocker David Bowie in 1997 to securitize future earnings from his 25 albums and place bonds (the famous "Bowie bonds"). “His first reaction was: “What is securitization?” Pullman recalls. “But once I explained to him what it was, he didn’t hesitate for a second.” The entire issue of 10-year bonds at a rate of 7.9% per annum was bought by Prudential Financial (engaged in insurance and investment management). The deal was not public, so there are no other details about it.

“It was a big innovation,” portfolio manager and Bowie fan Rob Ford told the WSJ, “it became a template for securitizing all kinds of assets.”

“At every investor conference, the first question I was asked by representatives of investment firms, insurance companies and rating agencies was: “Did you meet David in person?” Pullman recalls. - And the second question: “Have you met with [his supermodel wife] Iman?”

Goldman will give the yacht to good hands

The fashion for clients' investments for banks turns into exotic assets alienated from defaulters on loans on their balance sheets. Goldman Sachs recently sued wealthy Texas oilman William Callop's $39.9 million yacht Natita. In 2014, Callop took out a $32 million loan from Goldman secured by two yachts, Natita (named after his mother-in-law) and Bad Girl. Over the past nine years, he has bought seven yachts. But at some point, Callop began to have financial difficulties, and he did not have the funds to maintain the yachts, the condition of which began to deteriorate, and the cost to fall. In 2015, Callop fired Natita's crew and put the yacht up for sale. In November 2015, he stopped making payments on the Goldman loan.

Bowie told The New York Times in 2002 that within 10 years, copyright in the traditional sense would disappear and become a commodity "like tap water or electricity." In 2004, due to falling sales in the music sector, Moody's downgraded the rating of Bowie bonds.

Late 2000s due to mass piracy, music sales were having a hard time - they were down 60% from the high recorded 10 years earlier. But in recent years, thanks to streaming services Spotify and Apple Music, the sector has begun to revive. In 2016, US music revenues increased 11% to $7.7 billion. In the US, Spotify and Apple Music have 22 million subscribers, and for $10 a month they get access to tens of millions of songs.

Investment in royalties is also on the rise. Since 2013, private equity funds have raised $1 billion to invest in future album earnings. This was partly facilitated by the central bank's low rate policy, Cambridge Associates chief investment officer Wes Swoakheimer told the WSJ: "Here you get a profit stream that is not tied to the capital market."

In 2011, the Royalty Exchange online platform was opened, where any investors can buy royalties on relatively inexpensive assets. In the second quarter, her auction fees amounted to $ 2.5 million. On the Royalty Exchange, Goldberg bought the rights to proceeds from Sesame Street music. The original price was $430,000, but eventually increased by a third.
