Fidget Spinner is the undoubted hit of summer 2017. The spinning disk-shaped toy was one of the top 20 sellers on Amazon in May, with 10 million downloads of its smartphone app.
The editors of the Marketing Challenge remembered the fate of the super-popular toys of the past - Tetris, yo-yo, tamagotchi, Slinky springs and Tetris.
If you believe the trend, then the spinner is waiting for oblivion after a few months, and in two years it will only be remembered by journalists in retro reviews.
1. Multi-coloured Slinky spring
Slinky can be called a close relative of the spinner. The toy also involves the motor skills of the hands, children used it for entertainment, and adults used it to calm them down.
Slinky was invented in the 40s of the last century. American engineer Richard James was researching the properties of springs and accidentally dropped one of them. While he was trying to catch up with the part, he noticed that the spring could “walk” up the steps. This unexpected observation subsequently brought James more than one million dollars.

Slinky appeared in Ukraine only in the late 90s. Affordable price and a simple principle of operation of a plastic toy quickly ensured its popularity among tens of millions of people around the world. In the West, the "spring" has become a multifunctional item: from a pencil holder in the office to a radio antenna in the army.
In Ukraine, Slinky was played mainly by children.

2. Yo-yo Lighthouse
Another legend of the late 90s, whose history begins in ancient times. The first objects resembling a yo-yo appeared in ancient Greece. In ancient China, a disk on a rope was used as a dangerous weapon. In the 20s of the last century, the production of yo-yo was put on the conveyor, and in 90's upgraded the toy and placed a bearing inside, which ensured a longer rotation of the disc.

After the Brick Game console became hopelessly outdated, Tetris moved to push-button mobile phones, then to smartphones and desktop computers. On Google Play, some Tetris apps have reached 5 million downloads. But unlike the 90s, the game has much more competitors and Tetris does not stand out in any way against their background.
4. Tamagotchi Pet
Another well-known gadget that at the end of 90's could be seen in the hands of teenagers. The virtual pet was invented and developed by the Japanese company Bandai. The toy required the owner's constant attention: the pet had to be fed, watered and monitored for its virtual comfort.

At first, the pet Tamagotchi lived on a cartridge that users connected to a game console. Bandai soon developed a separate egg-shaped console for the game.
