Chicken Little Story - Bedtimeshortstories

This is Chicken Little Story. Chicken Little is a little chicken who always had a solution for everything. One day, Chicken Little was playing in the yard under the maple tree when a squirrel rushed by with his arm full of acorns and one of these acorns fell and hit Chicken Little right WHACK! at the middle of the head. Then, the acorn bounced back into the hole in the tree leaving no evidence that it was ever there. Read more about Chicken Little!

Then, the acorn bounced back into the hole in the tree leaving no evidence that it was ever there in the first place. Chicken Little looked around; she looked up, she looked down, and she looked all around. But she couldn’t put her finger on what hit on her head. Chicken Little always had an answer for everything and so she thought for a while and came to a conclusion that the sky must be falling down. This made Chicken Little very afraid. And so she thought to inform the King. Also, read The Old Man And His Sons.

She packed up some of the things that she needed into the bandana and tied it to the end of the stick, threw it onto the shoulder, and hit the road. On her way, she met Cocky Locky who stopped her and asked what was the issue. She told him, “I was sitting under the tree when the piece of the sky fell and hit me right on the head!” Cocky Locky also got worried. He joined Chicken Little and they both headed to the King’s castle.

Soon, they met Ducky Daddles on their way. Ducky Daddles asked, “Why are you both in so much hurry?” They both told the incident that had happened with Chicken Little. They said, “You haven’t heard the sky is falling! A big piece fell on Chicken Little and almost squashed her.” Ducky Daddles was very scared and so he, too, joined them to tell the King the very important news. You may also like, The Bear And The Bees.

They only made it halfway when they met Goosey Loosey. Goosey Loosey asked, “Hey, what’s the matter? You look stressed!” Ducky Daddles explained the whole incident to the Goosey Loosey. Goosey Loosey thought that they would be needing some protection as the King’s castle was quite far, And so, the four friends traveled to the castle. They spread the news where they traveled. They traveled over the river, through the woods, passed grandmother’s house, and all the way to the King’s castle.

When they got there, the King was very surprised to see them. “What are all of you doing here?” the King asked. They told the King, “The world is ending!” They revised the complete incident in front of the King as proof. But, the King wanted to see the piece of the sky they were talking about. But Chicken Little didn’t have it. “How can you say that it was a piece of sky?” Also read, The Magic Porridge Pot Story.

“How can you say that it was a piece of sky? It could be anything!” concluded the King. Chicken Little replied, “There was nothing above me except for the tree, and there was nothing on the ground when I got hit and I always have answers for everything. So, the only thing above me was the sky.” The King was not ready to agree with them. And so, the King traveled back with Chicken Little to take a look at the tree under which she was sitting that day.

They waited around for a while when a squirrel came running by and yelled down to them, “Hey guys, did you see my acorn I dropped yesterday?” All of them started to investigate. And finally, when Chicken Little checked the hole inside the tree, she saw a missing acorn. The squirrel was happy. Chicken Little was happy.

Chicken Little learned that the sky was not falling and that sometimes it’s okay to not know all of the answers.

Chicken Little is one of those traditional fairy tales in which some cute animals are eaten - so don't say we didn't warn you!

Several parents on our Facebook Group. have been lobbying us to publish this fast-paced and popular story. We have based our version on Henny-Penny by Joseph Jacobs. One of the great attractions of the tale is in the amusing names like Cocky-locky, Ducky-daddles, Goosey- Loosey and Turkey-lurkey, and of course, the baddy, Foxy-Woxy. As the fast-paced story goes on, the names build up into a long string.

But just once again - this story does involve animals being eaten. Comments are welcome but please dont' say we the ending came as a nasty surprise.

Chicken Little

Hello, This is Elizabeth, and I am dropping by a story that has been requested by several our of listeners including two parents, Clare and Teresa, both on our Facebook group.

It’s a fun, fast-paced tale, but I have to warn you that if you really mind stories where sweet little animals get eaten up by bad foxes, then this really isn’t the story for you.

ONE day, Chicken Little was picking up corn in the cornyard when – whack! Something hit her upon the head. “Goodness gracious me!” said Chicken Little, “the sky’s a-going to fall. I must go and tell the big boss.”

So she went along and she went along and she went along until she met Cocky-locky. “Where are you going, Chicken Little?” said Cocky-Locky. “Oh! I’m going to tell the big boss the sky’s a-falling,” says Chicken Little. “May I come with you?” says Cocky-Locky. “Certainly,” said Chicken Little. So Chicken Little and Cocky-Locky went to tell the big boss the sky was falling.

They went along, and they went along, and they went along, until they met Ducky-daddles. “Where are you going to, Chicken Little and Cocky-Locky?” said Ducky-Daddles. “Oh! we’re going to tell the big boss the sky’s a-falling,” said Chicken Little and Cocky-Locky. “May I come with you?” says Ducky-Daddles. “Certainly,” said Chicken Little and Cocky-Locky. So Chicken Little, Cocky-Locky and Ducky-Daddles went to tell the big boss the sky was a-falling.

So they went along, and they went along, and they went along, till they met Goosey-Loosey, “Where are you going to, Chicken Little, Cocky-Locky and Ducky-Daddles?” Said Goosey-Loosey. “Oh! We’re going to tell the big boss the sky’s a-falling,” said Chicken Little and Cocky-Locky and Ducky-Daddles. “May I come with you?” Said Goosey-Loosey.

“Certainly,” said Chicken Little, Cocky-Locky and Ducky-Daddles. So Chicken Little, Cocky-Locky, Ducky-Daddles and Goosey-Loosey went to tell the big boss the sky was a-falling.

So they went along, and they went along, and they went along, until they met Turkey-Lurkey. “Where are you going, Chicken Little, Cocky- Locky, Ducky-Daddles, and Goosey-Loosey?” says Turkey-Lurkey. “Oh! we’re going to tell the big boss the sky’s a-falling,” said Chicken Little, Cocky-Locky, Ducky-Daddles and Goosey-Loosey. “May I come with you; Chicken Little, Cocky-Locky, Ducky-Daddles and Goosey-Loosey?” Said Turkey-lurkey. “Why, certainly, Turkey-Lurkey,” said Chicken Little, Cocky-Locky, Ducky-Daddles, and Goosey-Loosey. So Chicken Little, Cocky- Locky, Ducky-Daddles, Goosey-Loosey and Turkey-Lurkey all went to tell the big boss the sky was a-falling.

So they went along, and they went along, and they went along, until they met Foxy-woxy, and Foxy-woxy said to Chicken Little, Cocky-Locky, Ducky-Daddles, Goosey-Loosey and Turkey-Lurkey, “Where are you going, Chicken Little, Cocky-Locky, Ducky-Daddles, Goosey-Loosey, and Turkey-Lurkey?” Chicken Little, Cocky-Locky, Ducky-Daddles, Goosey-Loosey, and Turkey-Lurkey said to Foxy-Woxy, “We’re going to tell the big boss the sky’s a-falling.”

“Oh! But this is not the way to the big boss, Chicken Little, Cocky-Locky, Ducky-Daddles, Goosey-Loosey and Turkey-Lurkey,” said Foxy-Woxy, “I know the proper way. Shall I show it to you?”

“Why certainly, Foxy-woxy,” said Chicken Little, Cocky-Locky, Ducky-Daddles, Goosey-Loosey, and Turkey-Lurkey. So Chicken Little, Cocky-Locky, Ducky-Daddles, Goosey-Loosey, Turkey-Lurkey, and Foxy-Woxy all went to tell the big boss the sky was a-falling. So they went along, and they went along, and they went along, until they came to a narrow and dark hole. Now this was the door of Foxy-Woxy’s cave. But Foxy-woxy said to Chicken Little, Cocky-Locky, Ducky-Daddles, Goosey-Loosey, and Turkey-Lurkey, “This is the short way to the big boss’s place. You’ll soon get there if you follow me. I will go first and you come after, Chicken Little, Cocky-Locky, Ducky-Daddles, Goosey-Loosey, and Turkey-Lurkey.”

“Why of course, certainly, without doubt, why not?” Said Chicken Little, Cocky-Locky, Ducky-Daddles, Goosey-Loosey, and Turkey-Lurkey.

So Foxy-Woxy went into his cave, and he didn’t go very far but turned around to wait for Chicken Little, Cocky-Locky, Ducky-Daddles, Goosey-Loosey and Turkey-Lurkey. First Turkey-Lurkey went through the dark hole into the cave. He hadn’t got far when “Hrumph,” Foxy-Woxy swallowed up Turkey-Lurkey.

Then Goosey-Loosey went in, and “Hrumph,” she was eaten too.

Then Ducky-Daddles waddled down, and “Hrumph,” snapped Foxy-Woxy, and Ducky-Daddles made the next course.

Then Cocky-Locky strutted down into the cave and he hadn’t gone far when “Snap, Hrumph!” went Foxy-Woxy.

But Foxy-Woxy had made two bites at Cocky-Locky, and when the first snap missed, he called out to Chicken Little. So she turned tail and ran back home. She never told the big boss the sky was a-falling

And that was the story of Chicken Little. Don’t say I didn’t warn you about sweet little animals getting eaten. Bertie says that Storynory listeners seem to fall into two sorts – those who are outraged that not all the animals get away and write in to complain – and those who like the traditional tales which are a little more true to life. This ones tells us not to coddle kids and to give them the real stuff straight from the storyteller’s mouth. You can always leave a comment and let us know where you stand on this great issue!

I thought you might like to know that we based our version on the English Tale by Joseph Jacobs where Chicken Little is actually called Henny-Penny, but as this story seems to be best known in America we used used the American name, Chicken Little. In some versions even Chicken Little doesn’t get away. In the Disney film of a few years ago, of course nobody gets eaten, so you can safely watch that one.

Does the story have a moral? Bertie says it’s hard to find, but perhaps it shows how mad mass panic only creates danger. Keep your head, so to speak, and you will keep your head.

For now, from me Elizabeth, Bye.

Cooking steps

Cooking time: 40 min PT40M
  1. Step 1:

Prepare all necessary ingredients. You will need two medium-sized chicken breasts, two small tomatoes, a delicious hard cheese, regular table salt, and ground black pepper.

  2. Step 2:

Rinse the chicken breasts under running water. Pat dry with paper towels. Remove the skin, films from them and cut off excess fat. Leave the bone.

  3. Step 3:

Make cross cuts on the surface at a distance of about 1 cm. The cuts should be quite deep, but not reaching the bottom of the meat.

  4. Step 4:

Cut hard cheese into small and not very thick slices. You can replace it with mozzarella or suluguni.

  5. Step 5:

Cut the tomatoes into thin half rings. Choose juicy but firm tomatoes. Soft fruits will not retain their shape, they can fall apart when cut, so it will be difficult to fill the chicken with them.

  6. Step 6:

Salt the breasts on all sides.

  7. Step 7:

Pepper (preferably freshly ground) to taste. What spices can be used additionally? If you like, add dried basil, curry, paprika. Or use ready-made spices specifically designed for chicken. In this case, read the composition on the package. If it already has salt in it, keep this in mind when salting the meat, otherwise you risk oversalting the dish.

  8. Step 8:

Place cheese slices in the slot. Try not to poke them out so the melted cheese stays inside the breast and doesn't leak out.

  9. Step 9:

Now place the tomato slices in the pockets. On the contrary, they can look out a little. Tomatoes not only saturate the meat with juices, giving it juiciness, but also serve as a decor, making the dish more colorful.

  10. Step 10:

The breasts are almost ready to bake. Chicken fillet itself is lean and not greasy. Therefore, so that the baked meat does not turn out dry, be sure to grease it with sauce.

  11. Step 11:

Mayonnaise can be used to smear the top. But if for some reason you don’t like mayonnaise, I recommend preparing a quick and healthier sauce. Mix 2-3 tbsp. l sour cream (or 70 ml of cream with a fat content of at least 20%) and 1-2 tsp. l mustard. If you want, you can add 2 cloves of garlic, passed through a press, to mayonnaise or sour cream sauce. With it, the sauce will be more flavorful.

  12. Step 12:

Brush the tops of the breasts with the mixture. So it does not dry out during the baking process and the chicken will be juicy.

  13. Step 13:

Prepare an ovenproof baking dish. Line it with parchment or lightly grease with vegetable oil. In advance (10-15 minutes before the start of cooking), turn on the oven to warm up. Bake at 180 degrees for about 35-40 minutes. Time and temperature may differ from those indicated in the recipe. Consider the characteristics of your oven.

  14. Step 14:

How do I check if the dish is done? When the chicken breasts are browned, pierce the meat with a fork or toothpick. The fork will go into the finished fillet without much effort, and the resulting meat juice will be transparent. Take the chicken dish out of the oven.

  15. Step 15:

Serve hot until it is as tasty and juicy as possible. Sprinkle with chopped parsley before serving. As an addition, any side dish or vegetable salad is suitable. Enjoy your meal!

Baked chicken breasts turned out incredibly tender, fragrant and appetizing. The recipe can be modified. Cut the onion into half rings and place on top of the chicken. The sauce can be made from a mixture of mayonnaise and sour cream, or use plain natural yogurt. Before serving, cut the meat into portions. Arrange on a plate garnished with fresh green lettuce leaves. Serve with mashed potatoes, crumbly stewed rice, or fresh vegetable salad. Delicious and beautiful!

Please note that ovens bake differently. The temperature and cooking time may differ from those indicated in the recipe. To make any baked dish successful, use the useful information in the article on ovens here
