Create a Bonsai managed simulator offer in the Azure Marketplace to monetize your use of the simulation platform in Bonsai workspaces. Managed simulators exist as managed apps in the Azure Marketplace that Bonsai users install in their Azure subscription.

Bonsai simulator counters in the form of instances per hour . For example, if the number of instances per hour is $0.05 and the user trains with ten simulator instances for three hours, the total charge is $1.50:

Tip

Required create a managed simulator offer, but there is no platform fee. You can set instance per hour to $0.00 to make the platform free to use. Bonsai

Bonsai users must install the offer and provide installation details in order to submit and run custom simulations created with the software. During Bonsai training, simulator and user usage counters are billed to Azure based on the rate configured in the offer. You will then receive payments in accordance with the Partner Center payment policies.

Important!

Bonsai disables metrics and billing in the following cases:

  1. Bonsai examples are always free to use.
  2. Unmanaged simulators operate outside of the Bonsai platform and are subject to the existing license agreement for the associated platform.
  3. Managed simulations run because custom containers are treated as black boxes and cannot be measured.
  4. Internal use of Microsoft simulators is never measured.

Getting Started

  • You must have a fully integrated simulator. Fully integrated simulators meet all the requirements of a simulation partner and support model submission using the user interface + Add sim .
  • You must have an active Azure subscription . Bonsai runs on Azure services. To use Azure services, you must have a valid Azure subscription.
  • Your company must enroll in the Microsoft Partner Center and enroll in the commercial platform . For registration instructions, see Create a Commercial Platform Account in Partner Center .

Tip

To avoid problems uploading configuration files, ensure that your local network is not blocking https://upload.xboxlive.com traffic, which acts as the upload service for Partner Center.

Step 1: Create a new offer

  1. Sign in to Partner Center using the account associated with your company.
  2. On the home page, select the tile Marketplace Offers . If the tile "Marketplace Offers" is not displayed, please make sure your partner account is the correct type.
  3. On the Marketplace offers page, select +Create offer > Azure app .
  4. Enter offer details in the "Create Azure App" dialog box:
    • Offer ID : A unique ID for each offer in your account. Each offer in your account must have a unique offer ID.
    • Offer alias : Display name used in Partner Center. The offer alias only appears in Partner Center. Customers will only see the offer ID.
  5. Press button create .

Attention!

Offer ID is displayed in the commercial platform description URL and all associated Azure Resource Manager templates. For example, if you enter "test-offer-1" as the identifier, https://azuremarketplace.microsoft.com/marketplace/../test-offer-1 will be the web address of the offer. Offer IDs must be 60 characters or less, intuitive and professional. Identifiers can only contain numbers, lowercase letters, hyphens, and underscores. Offer identifiers cannot be changed later .

Step 2: Set up offer properties

  1. Select the " Properties" tab for your offer.
  2. In section "Categories" , click the link "+ Categories ".
  3. Choice AI and machine learning for main category
  4. Select automated machine learning for subcategory .
  5. Select check box "Use Standard Contract for Microsoft Commercial Platform ".
  6. Press the button "Accept " in the confirmation dialog .
  7. To continue, select Save draft .

Tip

If the standard contract does not suit your needs, you can change or replace it. For more information, see "Adding Amendments to a Standard Contract" or "Using Your Own Terms".

Step 3: Customize offer description

Azure displays details for offer across all Microsoft Commerce Platform online stores. Listing details:

Important!

The content of the offer description (including terms of use) must be in English, unless the offer description starts with "This app is only available in [non-English language]". You can also specify a "Useful Link" URL that directs customers to content in other languages ​​if the offer description starts with "This app is also available in [non-English language]".

  1. Select tab Offer for your suggestion.
  2. Update your offer name in field "Name " to be COMPANY PLATFORM For Bonsaiwhere COMPANY is the company is name of your company, and PLATFORM is the name of your simulator offer. For example, if your company is Contoso and your simulator is "UltraSim", the list name should be "Contoso UltraSim For Bonsai". The company name is optional. If the branding does not include your company name, you can use PLATFORM For Bonsai .
  3. Add a summary of search results describing the offer (maximum 100 characters). Azure displays a summary of results in Marketplace search results.
  4. Add a short description of the offer in plain text (maximum 256 characters). Azure displays a short description on the offer details page.
  5. Add a formatted description of the offer. The offer description supports rich text editing to make the description more attractive. You can also use HTML tags to format the description. The offer description can be up to 5000 characters long (including HTML markup and spaces). For more information about HTML formatting, see the html tags supported in commercial platform offer descriptions.
  6. Add bonsai_simulators as the first search keywords for your offer to ensure it shows up with all other managed simulator offers.
  7. Add up to two additional search keywords. Avoid keywords already included in the offer name and description. Azure includes the offer name and description in customer search by default.
  8. Add URL to link to privacy policy . The URL should use https: and direct customers to the current and comprehensive privacy policy. You are responsible for ensuring that your application complies with all relevant privacy laws and regulations .
  9. Select "Add Link " under " Useful Links " and add links to documentation or examples for using the simulator with Bonsai. Links to general information about the simulator may also be helpful.
  10. Enter contact details for support. Name, email address, phone number, and support page URL are required, but Azure only displays the support URL in the offer list.
  11. Enter contact details for engineers to get help with technical questions about your offer. Name, email address and phone number are required but are not publicly displayed. Bonsai uses technical contact information to contact you if there are issues with the offer, including certification issues.
  12. Submit platform logos under logos . All logos must be in PNG format:
    • Large size between (216px x 216px) and (350px x 350px) displayed on the offer description page in Azure Marketplace.
    • Medium: 90px x 90px, appears when a new resource is created in Microsoft Azure.
    • Small: 48px x 48px, displayed in Azure Marketplace search results. If you choose to submit only the large logo, Partner Center automatically generates medium and small logos. Auto-generated logos can be replaced at any time.
  13. Select item Save draft .

Step 4: Set up test subscriptions

  1. Select the Preview Audience 9 tab 0279" for your suggestion.
  2. Enter Azure Subscription ID to be used for testing before the offer goes public. The Azure Subscription ID can be found by opening an Incognito/InPrivate browser window, navigating to the https://ms.portal.azure.com/#view/Microsoft_Azure_Billing/SubscriptionsBlade section and copying the value from the Subscription ID column.
  3. Add additional subscription IDs that your company uses for validation and testing. For more information about the preview, see Define the preview audience.
  4. Select item Save draft .

Step 5: Create a pricing plan

A. Create a new plan

  1. Select the " Plan Overview" tab for your offer.
  2. At the top of the Plan Overview tab, select + Create New Plan .
  3. In the dialog box that appears, in field "Plan ID " enter "sim_count_plan".
  4. In field "Plan name " enter "sim_count_plan".
  5. Press button create .

B. Set up plan details

  1. Select the Plan Setup tab for the new pricing plan.
  2. In the "Plan Type" list select " Managed Application".
  3. Select item Save draft .
  4. Select tab "List of plans" for the new pricing plan.
  5. In field of plan summary , enter Simulator Instances per Hour.
  6. In the "Plan Description " field, enter "Bonsai simulators are measured per hour according to the number of running simulator instances".
  7. Select item Save draft .

C. Set up pricing and availability

  1. Select the Pricing and Availability tab for the new pricing plan.
  2. In section "Markets" select "Change markets ".
  3. In the dialog that appears, click Select All to make the plan available in all locations.
  4. Click Save to close the dialog box.
  5. In field "Price " enter "0.00" in the field "USD per month". Bonsai Simulators cannot charge a monthly fee.
  6. Under "Marketplace Dimension Dimensions" , select "Add Custom Dimension Dimension" (maximum 30).
  7. In field of ID , enter simcount.
  8. In field of display name , enter simcount.
  9. In field "Unit ", enter "instances per hour".
  10. In field Price per unit in US dollars (USD) , enter the price for one measured unit. If you want to allow free use of the Bonsai training simulator, set the unit price to "0.00".
  11. In field Monthly quantity included in base field , enter "0.00". Bonsai Simulators cannot provide free usage every month.
  12. In section " Plan Visibility" select the " Public" option to make your plan available to everyone after the offer is published. You will have the opportunity to preview the proposal before it is published.
  13. Select item Save draft .
  14. Select tab "Technical configuration " for the new pricing plan.
  15. Note the value of the client usage attribute ID .

Note

When creating a paid plan, you can update the price of an active commercial platform offer after it is published. Azure Marketplace has strict processes for notifying users and planning for price changes.

If you are creating a free plan ($0.00), you must create a new offer to change the price and work with customers to move them to the new agreement.

Step 6: Create a package file for the managed application

  1. Clone or download the microsoft-bonsai-api repository.
  2. Make a copy of the managed-application-package folder from microsoft-bonsai-api/managed-simulator-offer/managed-application-package . As part of the proposal, you need to change the managed application template.
  3. In field mainTemplate.json Set resources.name client usage attribute id that you wrote down earlier:

  4. In the viewDefinition.json field "Set properties.header with the same name" as in the Offer Lists tab.
  5. In viewDefinition.json field properties.header "This managed app is eligible for simulators under the Azure Marketplace NAME offer" where NAME is the offer name entered in the header. For example:
     "properties": { "header": "Contoso UltraSim For Bonsai", "description": "This managed application entitles the use of simulators according to the terms of the Contoso UltraSim For Bonsai offer in Azure Marketplace" } 
  6. Compress the folder managed-application-package to create managed-application-package. zip with changes.

Step 7: Submit a Managed Application

  1. Select tab "Technical configuration" for your offer.
  2. In field "Version " enter "1.0.0". When you publish a change to a managed application, you must increase the version number.
  3. In section Package file (.zip) select managed-application-package.zip.
  4. ( OPTIONAL ) In the Notification Endpoint URL field, specify the HTTPS webhook endpoint to receive notifications of all CRUD operations in managed instances of the application. Notification endpoints are required only if you want to be informed when users accept your offer. For more information about the webhook URL, see Planning a Managed Application.
  5. In section "Azure Public" , in the Azure Active Directory tenant ID field , enter the Azure Active Directory tenant ID. The tenant ID can be found in the browse blade of Azure Active Directory.
  6. In the Subject ID field, enter the Azure Active Directory ID of the user who will be granted permission to access the managed resource group. The Azure ID can be found by selecting the user in the Azure Active Directory users blade in the Azure portal and copying the value object ID of this user. For consistency, you may need to select the same user that was used to create the Partner Center offer.
  7. In the list of role definitions , select "Owner".
  8. Select item Save draft .

Step 8: Submit a Proposal for Publication

  1. Select " Plan Overview" at the top of the form to exit the plan section and return to the main proposal tabs.
  2. Select the Resale tab on the Configuration Service Providers tab.
  3. Select "No partners" in CSP program .
  4. Select item Save draft .
  5. In the upper right corner of the Partner Center, select "Review" and "Publish ".
  6. For any page with a status other than "Complete ", select the page name, fix flagged issues, save the page, and then select "Check" and "Publish ".
  7. After you complete all pages, update the information in section "Certification Notes" to include testing instructions that the certification team can follow to ensure that the application has been validated correctly.
  8. Provide additional notes that you feel are helpful in understanding your application.
  9. Select "Publish " to begin the process of publishing the offer.

Once the publishing process has started, the proposal overview page opens with the current status of the publication. The publishing state changes as the app moves through the publishing process. For more information about the Azure Marketplace publishing process, see the review and publish steps.

Step 9: Add a Bonsai audience as a preview

You must contact Microsoft at this time to enable billing with your proposal. As part of the Bonsai onboarding process, the team will integrate the managed app and test the Azure Marketplace offering. Bonsai

  1. Contact the Bonsai team to let them know that you've created a new managed simulator offer and include the link to the Azure preview portal. The preview link can be found in column of publisher exit on tab Offer Overview for your offer.
  2. Add the following Azure subscriptions to the preview audience tab for your offer. The Bonsai team can provide the necessary subscription IDs if needed:
    • "Microsoft Customer Led / Test sub for ingestion"
    • "BonsaiII"
  3. Select item Save draft .
  4. Verify that the team can access and prepare the Bonsai managed simulator proposal.

Step 10: Test the offer

  1. View the offer in Azure Marketplace to see how it will appear to users.
  2. Test building and running simulations in Bonsai with your proposal.
  3. Verify that simulators running in your offer are working correctly using Azure Marketplace controls.
    1. Deploy a managed app to an Azure subscription added in the preview audience tab .
    2. Use a pre-Bonsai subscription workspace to add a custom simulator using the managed simulator offer.
    3. Brain training with Bonsai using a custom simulator.
    4. Wait up to 72 hours for Azure to catalog the user simulator metered usage.
    5. In Partner Center, select Analytics → Usage.
    6. Use the drop-down list to change normalized VM usage to limited usage .
    7. Verify that the limit usage matches the expected amount based on the training session you performed in the previous step. For example, if about ten instances of the simulator were running within three hours, then the usage limit would be expected to display a value of approximately thirty.
